Trails look great. Job well done.
The whole slab steepness discussion reminds me of the discussion that was held over a feature in the trails at Carron Valley. The kelpies stair case was debated over by many, with claims of the stone pitched section being 45deg and more. In reality it no more than 30deg and this random pic makes it look much less.

Many found it daunting partly due to its steepness but mostly its surface. Steepness always seems more on top of a bike as you are at a higher level, bent over bars and your eyes/brain are probably judging to angle to the ground and not where you head will end up when on a bike at the bottom of the slope. The only way to tell the angle is to properly measure it.
In all the pics the Gisburn slab looks less steep than McMoab or even Dalbeatie but pics are deceiving.
None-the-less it looks a great feature to a great trail

It's simply illegal to overtake on the inside, isn't it

    ?

There is a difference between over taking and moving up the inside of slow moving or stopped traffic.
If a driver was to pull out (left or right turn) without signaling for a second or two before hand I would say that they were in the wrong should and accident occur.

Undertaking is down right dangerous and done at speed is just asking for an accident. My method of cycling is assume that no one can see you and anything can happen.

Love the pitch. White stem would look better. (IMHO of course 🙂 )

Are you setting up the shock using air pressure charts? I go with the 1/3 sag rule of thumb and gentle dampening on the rebound. Not sure about compression as I only have a float R but going down hill I thought that you should run it with minimal dampening if any at all.

It’ll last 6 months. Wish I had £60 to blow on cheap to.

Just like the £250 posts then. I know what I’d rather spend. Might give it a go a some point.

Most likely its due to lack of oxygen in the water. My brother has had several goldfish and even though using a submerged pump/purifier the fish get lethargic. Try positioning the pump so that the water falls into the tank water and you see bubbles, this will keep the water oxygenated (better than plants IMHO). Also as said they are shitty fish so water gets mucky quickly.
I’m no expert, just talking from what I’ve noticed, there may be other reasons.

Mabie darkside is still there. Irode it (most of it) this weekend for the first time. Found it quite difficult and impossible, for me, in places. its seen better days and probably could do with some work to improve the bits the people fall off a lot. Apart for those its holding up well.

Awful Idea. like a driver is going to see thin laser lines on a road. Wont be bright enough in a street lit area anyway. Doesnt look wide enough either. I like a good doors length of space.

I really like the look of the New enduro. Much better than the last model.
Trek Remedy is still nicer though.

I’d say GT black is a must-do trail. Its one of the longest trails and hasnt changed much from original completion so not as technically demanding as newer trails. Personally I do it a couple of times a year but other times I do most of the red then jump across and do the black from deliverance.
Well done on doing all those trails in three days and in that respect I reckon the black wouldn’t have offered anything more.

surely now is the time to get in there and start re-forming trails

I was just thinking of this. However I think they leave it to mulch a little before replanting, hence more diggers/vehicles.
I have been thinking that the area further along the road to the north where the trees are already planted and about 5 ft tall would be good to get into, however the ground is poor and very rough so would be a lot of work. Will be a good bit of forest in 5 years or so.

The pic is from a route to the left of the fall-line descents, so might not have been found then…does that mean I’ve given away my littel secret TTF 🙂
The method of threading the needle is the way I do it too. Those descents are treacherous in the wet/winter.

MUGDROP, as I named it when I scoped the line.

Its totally safe and leads you into it nicely. Its really just a two foot drop but the 40dg slop can make it bigger when taken at speed. I always check the landing though if I havent been up for a few weeks.
Stone causeway and skinny(work in progress) is mine too.
woo hoo, someone else rides my trail. 😉 Hope you like it.
I miss the carbeth hill trails. 🙁

Renoir is potentially a good phone if its wasn’t so slow at doing everything and it has zero (very few anyway) applications. Arena sounds like a good phone, better than the Iphone in so many ways but no apps either really hinders it IMO.
Sony Ericsson has a 2 new phones releasing in a couple of months called Satio and Aino that I’m very interested in.

    Me too.
Sorry to hear that. Times are bad

I’ve been surviving on 4 free days a week for months now. In four weeks time I will have 7 free days a week to bike. However, I wont be able to afford a bike, or my car, or my flat, Oh joy.

My usual comment on this type of post
“Why on earth is there no mtb centre in the Trossachs (near glasgow)”
It was classed as ‘high importance’ in the original FC consultation doc.

Can’t help with routes other than the descent that goes under Go Ape.
few trails to the left of Go Ape
Follow the guided walks through QE forest to south of Aberfoyle and look out for trails.
    Ben Venue as above.

5 miles is a dodle. Traffic lights will make more of a difference than the type of bike will.
Over the years I’ve went from mtb, to road to flat bars on the raod bike then to single speeded Roadrat.
IMHO single speed the mtb and add mudguards come autumn. Know you route before you commit to a all out road bike.
Re panniers, there are various methods from humble back pack to seat or post mounted bags. Basket on the bars?

Eating lots of garlic in the fortnight before and during your stay is supposed to help keep most biting insects at bay. Not so sure about midgies and the West coast ones around Glencoe can be the most resilient and vicious in Scotland.
Not much use for on time visits but I find that the severity of reactions decreases after a couple of times. Ive been up in the area about 4 times in the last couple of months and last week really didnt have much problem.

Go into a Outdoor store and buy a nice THF/White Stuff/berghaus… short sleeved shirt and casual shorts. No need to wear Cycle specific clothes.

Where is it dictated that you wear cycling clothes. Try wearing some normal fashion focused items. TBF, on more focused rides like races or enduros the cut specific clothes can be/are better but normal rides you can wear whatever you like.
I some times ride in a nice fetching (garish/tasteless) Hawaiian type shirt. Might try a nice stretchy suit one day 😉

The screen (multi touch-capacitive) and the UI (including the apps) are what makes the Iphone great, mostly the apps IMHO.
Apple are playing catch up with this phone, and still not caught up.
The hard work, and what people love about apple was done developing the original UI/OS, Apple’s forte. Even this has only been massaged to include the things that were missing the first time round. All the advancements that everyone is excited about are included in every other high end phone already.
I think the Apple UI is the best out there, frankly i’m dissapointed no-one has come close to it yet. However at the same time it is the lowest specified phone out there with even budget phone offering better

The noise issue of cars is almost irrelevent. Apart from the more cheaper diesel models, modern engines are so quite at urban speeds that they are un-audible over the din that typically HUGE tyres make on the road.
However elec cars focus on economy and efficiency so I suppose will have smaller tyres. Oh dear, they will to sneak up on cyclists/pedestrians with their stealthy approach! 🙂

Power generated by human muscles is miniscule in real terms.
You can get equipment that powers itself, I doubt that there would be any additional power left after that.

Its a conservative shuffle forward rather than a step or jump. I think its a really disappointing upgrade. Cant really see the advantage. Fingers crossed there will be a lot of cheap 3Gs up for grabs on the web or from 02. Other than the camera I didn’t see people moaning too much about the hardware and the OS3.0 will solve most of the software/firmware complaints. Very disappointed there’s no OLED screen when every one else’s high phone seems to be sporting one.
Where’s the Nano or the tablet? I was considering an IPhone, I think I’ll keep an open mind to others now.
    Poor show Cupertino.

All forms of energy generation have side effects.
    Fossil – pollution
Wind – noise/eyesore(eye of the beholder) nad who knows what effect it has further down the line.
Solar – lower thermal impact on the ground (cooling and devegitation) but its probably the least directly effecting.
Tidal – changes to the coastline
The only real answer is to lower our overall usage which is admittedly going to be a difficult thing to do optionally.
Getting off topic a bit now. Sorry.

    Electric cars are very close.
    Telsa
Chevy Volt (if it gets built)
    BMW MINI E1
    and several others coming through.
Whether they are actually better than a combustion engine is very dubious.
Totally unsubstantiated, but car combustion engines are possibly the most efficient way of burning fuels (save for these new flue-less fireplaces).
Electric cars are just taking advantage of peoples eco guilt. Where does the power come from? Unefficient mass production power stations mostly.
People are un-aware of just how much energy is embodied within these cars. I’m siding with Clarkson here. Buy smaller engined cars and drive less/more efficiantly if you are feeling guilty.

I’m also waiting for the ‘new’ iphone announcement next week. All phones seem to be very good these days. Pre, Tocco HD, N97, SE Aino & Satio. However Apple will always have the most peripheral support and far more apps being written for it. I also suspect it still has the best UI.

Its alright I suppose but probably done on many shots. regular rally drivers drive better every day.
Climb dance is the most impressive I’ve seen. Quite like the get away in Stokeholm series as well or the guy in the RUF porsche round the Nurburg ring.

Inners then Kirroughtree are my faves as trails but GT has got to be the best of the stanes. It has lots of trails for every level can be mixed and matched to so many ways to make a stonking day out. Really deserves to be expanded with whole other red trail and extended super black.
