The VT2 was a minger too.

Most large framed bikes look minging. Thats hardly the best example.
That Giant DH1 is of its time. Current kona stab however is not.

Nice. clean lines for a Kona. I like the way the top tube lines through with the seat stays. Now just get Trek's ABP on that and it'll be ace.

    Blackburn airstik
nice high pressure and tiny size. Not the best head but does the job well enough.
    EDIT
Sorry just read all your post again. only 50psi? I easily pump up to 120psi on the airstik SL. There is a 2stage one as well.

There is a charity called Rebound trying to get some things started North of Glasgow. Good luck to them.

    £8M. 😯
I have no doubt that GT will offer a very high standard of visitors centre but it does seem excessive. Think of the miles of trails that could have been built, through out scotland, for the cost.

    Quite liking:

Angus & Julia Stone – A Book Like This (prefer Julia's stuff)

I thought the Trail was very good. I wasnt keen on the uphill off piste hike-a-bike but was different. Loved the muddy sections and was proabbly saved by using the bigger bike.
The trails took a beating with the weather and volume of riders but hopefully not to bad after the mud get washed off.
Well done to all the riders and thanks to the No fuss and others for the organisation. The constant jet wash was probably a life saver for many peoples bikes, many chain breaks going on and several new drive cains probably required after the weekend.

I spent about an hour treading out a new trail, through lots of nettles, as it turned out. 24 hours and a sleepless night of severe tingling akin to heavy sunburn. Not enjoyable.

Anyway, did you know the nettle sting is actually a silica (glass) tube

I do now and with a helping of acidic fluid in it.

It helped a lot for an friend of mine. Similar injuries and RSI to boot. But don't get a cheap one. Hire/test first and see if it helps then buy a descent one. Boardman/Specialised/Giant best value for money IMHO.
Will a suspension seat post help issues for the least money.

Did the blue with the GF. Was quite impressed. Its no GT blue but had bits of fun. Didn't get the chance to do the Red. include the blue at first for a warm up then do the reds.

Seems I'm not getting any mails to my Outlook home mail. However i read most of my emails on my phone (hero) and my google account is pulling all my ntl account stuff as well so I rarely look at home mail. I just checked and nothing has downloaded since May.

Several years back at T in the park I woke up to find a friend pissing into my tent. He got a punch in the chest and fell back pissing all over himself. I still had to bail out my own tent. Arse!
    NO revenge taken.
Turn the other cheek or Eye for an eye. Piss in his car or luggage bag.

F*%king nightmare! Last night as well. People driving much closer than normal. Jumping ambers going to red. Speeding. Overtaking me just to stop at the red 100 yards further on. They've all lost a few brain cells over the last few days. I was close to physical action.
There was less traffic but I think this makes people worse drivers.

Sounds like mine. Norco fluid set on short travel. No pics unfortunately.
Spesh FSR XC with longer forks?

Non shadow type dérailleurs have a habit of hitting the chain stay on FSR bikes. My Norco did this till I got a shadow, which doesnt hit the stay.
Loose items like cables and chains can be damped. Any large volume, thin walled frames will make the sound echo. IME Orange bike's large monocoque frames are some of the noisiest bikes I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.

I ride my Flyer like a TT bike. Seat is nearly as far forward as possible and I sit quite far forward on it.
I ride my mtb with so may seat heights that I dont really think about it but when climbing I like to be over teh pedals to its saddle up and on the nose.

OT james-o: Is it possible to buy a shorter more angled (lower) genesis stem for my flyer?

GT blue is brilliant for all levels 5 – 50.
I did Whinlatter blue a couple of weeks ago and was really impressed as well.
There should be more quality blues at all centres.

None. It'll ruin your hair then your kids really won't think your cool.

    Or flatboy's suggestion 🙂

GF probably came up with most many of the 'bigger' advancment ideas in mtbing.
Longer TT, bigger wheels, bigger headtube (though he proposed 1.25), sloping top tubes (Kona more so). He has some nice ideas still.
I think a lot of the bikes will be more diluted. Trek have traditionally been very conservative and allowed GF to be more avant garde, adopting his ideas when they clearly work or the general public accepted and demanded them.

He does look quite strange these days. 😯

I definitely think some people crash 'better' than others. If it's down to training or experience I do not know. I did martial arts for nigh on 15 years and did lots of 'mucking about' as a kid. When I crash I tend to be able to get up from it, I find myself rolling out of things. In saying that I haven't crashed in a long time but I don't know if that's skill or I'm not pushing myself.
Well that's me scuppered. I'm due a big fall this weekend. 😀

Mega insulate the loft as much as you can. More than 300mm quilted making sure there is a reflective side, if any, facing down (though I'm not sure how effective this actually is). If you still feel you want more then you can use issulated plaster board on the walls. you lose a bit of floor space but it maintains the Cavity Wall gap, probably only 50mm. I don't really believe in CWI as CW's are designed to have air flow/seperation between outer and inner.

I've got a sore throat. Had it for over a week now and I have very mild flu like symptoms. nothing to bad but I feel too drained to ride properly/fast. Its getting annoying. More bedrest and fruit & veg.

£650 1.4 VW polo P reg here 60K miles. Does me fine on medium length journeys ~200miles. Further than that I start getting nervous as the gearbox seams to not like it. Strange transmission noises start making themselves apparent like its lost its oil.

IIRC The Pitch was based on the geometry of the 06/07 enduro which had a second, lower-shock-mount that raised the bottom bracket. Surely putting on the longer i2i would just be doing the same.
Go for it and let us know the results.

u02sgb that sounds about right. Never knew its name but its always our first descent. Aim is always to do the lower bit with no brakes. I dont think I've quite managed it yet.

    My usual loop

Takes in most of my favourite bits. Lots to add on though all over the place.

Is there any worth while singletrack on the hill between the two sections of reservoir (east side of the road)? I never ridden over there.

River run, Castle descent, First descent (rocky rooty), Moor.
Lots in Mugdock and lots beyond. The WHW to Dumgoyne and the Whangie are great as well for the longer distance.
Also the old rail line along to Lennoxtown and up in the forest for some of the old (partially forgotten) trails – local knowledge necessary.
    Hours of fun.

I like a nice long skid behind pedestrians. They move out of the way quick sharp, even if your quite far off. Love the look on there faces. 😉

I am running XR4's and think they have a great tread and grip. Fast rolling on the straight ahead. but good grip in the corners. Your fears of the side wall are correct, they are very thin, especially for a tubeless ready tyre (requires juice). The thin side walls does mean a light weight tyre for its large size. TR2 will size up large as well but not quite as big as TR4.

AFAIK Trek OCLV carbon frames are fully USA sourced and manufactured. They have a second tier carbon TCT (trek carbon technology) which uses similar priciples but more cost effective manufacture in Taiwan.
Gary Fisher is Trek own hence the use of OCLV.
