Hmm, missed the airport in Kelowna, even more interesting then.

Great photo’s sweaman2, Presidents and the glacier look great.

So it could look something like Calgary->Canmore->Lake Minnewanka->Lake Louise->Field->Golden->Revelstoke->Kelowna – only 628Km to drive that, so plenty of time out of the car. Just Jasper missing from that really.

More great stuff, you lovely people 😀

Anywhere worth visiting between Kamloops and Vancouver? Just wondering about taking a week to drive from Calgary to Kamloops and then catching a flight to Vancouver to save a bit of time, we could then jump straight on a seaplane to the Island, might that be better than a round trip from/to Calgary?

Ebygomm, just got around to looking at your fab photo’s thanks for sharing, mind me asking where you were in some of the shots that were a bit higher up in the hills? How did you find these routes; maps, books or just from info at the trailheads?

Hoping that we can get up high once or twice. At Moraine Lake for example, how easy would it be finding a way up Tower of Babel? Or Panorama Ridge, guess these are not waymarked, but are the tracks obvious or not so much?

Some great stuff for me to look at there, thanks. 😀

Know we’re trying to cram a lot into 2 weeks and we’ll only scratch the surface, but that’s what I’ve been given to work with.

We’re flying into Calgary, but planned to return there after the first week and fly to Nanaimo on the island, will we miss too much good stuff doing this and should be looking at driving across to Vancouver then? We were thinking this would just be too much time driving?

RV option seems like it really has little or no benefits then.

Revelstoke and Tofino both come up multiple times… noted.

Float plane sounds great, all our flights are wheeled currently (Port Hardy back to Vancouver from the island), so will look at ways to fit this in if we can.

Had seen CMH, def a bit too spendy for a multi-day trip.

What’s the best resource for planning walks? Found some stuff on outdooractive, but are there guidebooks worth looking at or it’s not really necessary? We’re competent navigators, so could just get maps, but imagine that would mean buying many maps to cover the various areas?

Pretty sure if you’ve just gone on eBay and bought something you can pay within the next 2 mins however busy a life you live!

I always snipe, so pretty much absent when auctions close.
Payment within 3 days is acceptable from my POV.

We stayed a few days in Reykjavik, definitely worth it and then took a tour for a few days with these guys; waterfalls, glaciers, ice caves, Jokulsarlon lagoon and beach, fabulous place…

Although he’s probably done very well on that strategy over the last 12 months.

To be fair, I’m much less exposed to equities, but still shitting myself about cocking things up, but that’s just a consequence of approaching retirement.

Out of interest, how much of his fund are you suggesting he moves out of equities?

The Sevylor ones are pretty good for the money. We’ve had a Colorado for a few year now, used regularly in Anglesey. Very stable, have never come close to capsizing, just bobs up and down nicely in the swell and waves.

You do have to be careful in the sea though, avoid running tides (unless in your favour) and as soon as the wind gets above 10mph or so, progress can be pretty difficult.

For that reason we’ve recently bought a Gumotex Seawave. Only given it a quick try in Coniston so far, but reckon it’ll be usuable in a wider range of weather than the Sevylor.

We’ll mostly use it as kayak though and we noticed the double paddling makes the tracking a bit more difficult, considering adding a rudder now to help with that. Never really had any tracking issues with the Sevylor, but always used single paddles, something to consider perhaps.

Local Tesco to me had Bruichladdich Hebridean Whisky, called “Laddie Ten” down from £37 to £12.08! internet price was £69

The first Laddie Ten was lovely and the price went up as it became rarer. There was a 2nd bottling released back end of last year I think, haven’t had that one, but whichever you have, at that price, it’s a proper bargain…

Really good aurora forecasting for Iceland here:
Iceland Aurora Forecast

We did a 3-day trip out of Reykjavik with Extreme Iceland, they have so many excursions from a few hours to many days, anything you could wish for is covered, might give you some ideas about what you’d like to do with your time, even if you don’t book with them.

Also been to the Soup cafe, nice on a cold night. Good fish and chips down by the harbour too, next to the Volcano museum.

Oh and go watch the sunrise from the Sun Voyager sculpture, it won’t be too early in March.

Too many landscape togs I admire to narrow it down to one photo.

As far as adventure sports goes though, has to be the one below. Often daydream about the moment that picture was taken and what it was like to have been a pioneer, but then the suffering is so much more than I could endure. Wife got me one of the signed limited editions of Doug Scotts book, hopefully get some time to read that over Christmas…

If you want to give him a proper exciting pothole experience, then this

Might be a bit of a walk in for a 7-year old though, nearly three miles up to the entrance.

And if you do decide to do it, get there stupidly early; done it a couple of times with BPC in May and even arriving at 7am, still number 40 in the queue!
