I bought a Bosch one. Not having to manage the cable has halved the time taken to cut the lawn. I’ve not had any battery issues, they seem very well put together

    Thanks for doing this
I agree with beagleboy and yak. I stopped posting years ago due to the actively nasty replies to most posts.
I’m hoping we can talk about bikes and stuff on here without fear of it all descending into crap for the amusement of a few wanksocks
Being just for people who like MTB enough to pay money to read a mag about it may just help

I’ve just spent a couple of hours working through all of the suggestions.
I found, on my bike at least, the problem was caused by badly shaped teeth on sprockets 9, 10 and 11.
When the chain was on sprocket 8 (1 being largest and 12 smallest), two of the teeth in sprocket 9 were stopping it seating as they protruded too far in board (towards centre of the wheel).
These teeth are the highly angled ones that sit slightly in board or the others.
I took a dremel to the back side and ground away a little material from all of these problem teeth on 9, 10 and 11 sprockets and it’s sorted the problem.
I guess it’s down to either bad design or bad quality control

Just got back from a week riding with the gx. It was a nightmare. It would run fine on one run and then with no changes it would start ticking and jumping. then it would be fine again. Really disappointed with it

B screw seemed to work for me too. Won’t run in 12th in the stand but works out of the stand.
Thanks op for posting and everyone for the tips. Thanks excitable for the essay :)

Thanks both. I’m hoping it’s the b screw not being set with sag. I’ll have a go of that later. Will be great if it’s that

Just been for my first ride on the GX. It’s the worst gear system I’ve ever used for losing index. It would be absolutely fine, then it would start ticking. I’d change gear up and down and it would be fine again for a few minutes. Then it starts ticking again. Drove me round the twist.
I’m going to take it all off. Start with checking the absolutely brand new mech hanger for straightness and try again. Eurghhh
In the bike stand it’s perfect

Also, I’m putting a bigger chainring on, so I’ve left the chain a little longer than I would. That may not be helping me. I see you’ve accounted for that

As for the 50t cog meshing. For me, it feels like narrow/wide. I found slipping the chain one link allowed it to mesh perfectly

I’ve just installed a GX too.
There’s not much room for error in there.
With the mech holder button engaged, it looked like it wouldn’t index but once the chain was fitted and the mech released it was ok.
At one point the outer cable piped out of the mech which introduced some slack. Double check that.
It does feel a little like it’s not quite right still.
I’m going to give it another go in the morning. Will report back.

I’ve just been doing my neighbours soffits and fascias. We’ve taken the rotten wood ones off and replaced with new wood. About 3/4 way through.

It’s an absolute pig of a job and takes bloody ages (weeks)
    Scaffolding is required too.

I’ve no idea of the cost but I’d pay whatever it is to not have to do it myself again.

Hope that gives you a bit of context.

These DUB BBs sound great. Can I fit one to my 2015 XX1 GXP cranks or do they only fit DUB cranks?
    Thanks

I’ve read you must freeze it first to kill the mites. Defrost and then use.

I found shin pain was caused by tight calves. Give them a stretch and see.
I had terrible shin splints last year. They took 6 weeks to recover. 2 weeks I couldn’t walk. Next 4 I couldn’t run. Now I do 100 body weight squats before I run and it helps warm every thing up. Seems to work for me

I was gutted when they screwed up the hummvees too. I’m yet to find a replacement.

    The three key ingredients are
    Baking Soda
    PVA glue
Bauch+Lomb ReNu contact lens solution, this has the borax/activator

My house is full of the stuff.

I have it when my calves are tight. Give them a stretch and in this cold weather warm up inside before you set off

I’ve just moved from XTR to code. The Shimano’s nearly did for me 3 times in Finale. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t. Was a bit of a nightmare managing them all week. I now own no Shimano kit, just a few years ago I ran all Shimano. It’s sad to see how far they have fallen.

The good news is, As you are just starting out it’s probably not shin splints

I would say your calf muscles are tight and it’s causing shin pain.

Walk quickly for 5 mins to warm up then do calf stretches. I do 4 types, heel drops (use a kerb), straight back leg hips forward heel down, same again but with legs closer together, then toes up on the back of the other heel. Google it , it’s hard to describe.

build up you milage very slowly. 10% extra per week. You think you can do more but don’t.

Youve got cardio fitness from cycling but you don’t have running adaption

I’m not a fan of putting collars on cats.

Here’s an article on how amazing they are:

Used mine on Saturday during a normal ride. It drained the batteries in about 4 hours. The results were inconsistent, swinging from one end of the scale to the other even though I made no adjustments. I guess it works better when sessioning a bit of trail. Don’t know if I can be bothered to use it again.

Mine arrived last week.  Seems a bit of a faff to set up compared to Shockwiz but it can be used with coil or air, so that’s the tradeoff.  App is called Simblee, it allows the SMB unit to connect to the phone, then the software on the SMB unit runs.  App looks a bit basic at the moment but they are a tenacious bunch, so I’m sure they’ll work on it.
Will let you know how I get on, hoping to test it out this week

Hey Scaled and Submarined, I’ve got this Raynauds thing. It’s a real pain, sounds like you may have too. I’ve tried all manner of gloves, the best ones at the moment are the Shimano Extreme Winter glove. They get me through most things, can be run with a silk liner too. I’ve currently got this feeling that it’s my feet setting off my hands, so I’m going to try getting some better socks to see if that helps. I know it sounds weird but it’s a broken bio response that causes it, so you never know. Anyway, if you do find something that helps, live heated gloves or whatever, let us know. Ta

There was a program on BBC with one of them doctors like Horizon. He was an insomniac. He started taking prebiotics with his coffee in the morning and it improved his sleep. I thought I’d give it a go too and it worked a treat. Also magnesium citrate an hour before bed. Both available from amazon
