    diametre

    Not really, as diameter is:

It is internal width, and I’m only guessing, “D” in “ID” stands for “dimension”.

    Hollins Cross to Greenlands

Better to do Hollins to Backtor Bridge.

Not necessarily fail on tough ones. Just go sensibly. According to your skills and bike capability.

I managed once Potato Alley on gravel, drop bar bike with 32c tyres. It was very measured and steady rather than quick downhill, but done nevertheless…

Allow yourself loads of time, remember to hydrate and eat, don’t get OTT and you will be fine.

Just last Tuesday I’ve done 65miler (100km) around Peaks on my hardtail. (Stanage Edge, Cutthroat Bridge, Whinstone Lee Tor, Hagg Farm, Hope Cross, Potato Alley, Lockerbrook Farm and Cut Gate. Doable if you put your mind into that properly.

Done Stanage Edge, Whinstone Lee Tor, Hope Cross, Potato Alley, Lockerbrook and Cut Gate today.

It was GLORIOUS. Quite a few walkers around Ladybower, met few bikers. But nothing too drastic.

Seen much worse. Only place I was really slowing down was on North America, but that one is always busy no matter the weather and time of the year.

If you are driving make it early doors as you might be hard pressed for parking space. Even at 9:30am most of parking bays and carparks were already overflowing.

Just to spice up your appetite ;) https://www.flickr.com/photos/39409125@N02/albums/72157718509032969

I always stay left, as we would on roads, and most people seem to get this

Not in my experience. I assumed so, rather naturally, after moving to UK. Been proved wrong on multiple occasions. By casual and what looks like regular riders…

As for me – yes I would cycle less. Some journeys I now cycle I would walk instead as the extra hassle from wearing a helmet would tip the balance but its a marginal effect for me.

That is one of the silliest I-Will-Not-Wear-Helmet I heard in ages.

But that one takes the cake :D

I live about a mile and a half from where I worked. I shower before I went to work including washing my hair. Put a helmet on wet hair you have helmet hair all day.

Unless your hair is chinchilla-like thickness drying it with towel or even with hair drier would be much more sensible than ride with wet head.

But of course what flows your way…

Somehow never came to me: “Gosh, what a pain in the backside it is to put lid on”.

But that is probably only me…

All the bikes with rim brakes.

In this age and time all rim brakes should be dumped into history landfill and buried as deep as possible.

Nasty, ineffective, dangerous stuff of the past…

    Oh, yes and cracking…

During usage I managed to shatter 2 alu nipples previously. Never the same with brass, despite almost wrecking the wheel completely.

From my experience it is just not worth risking with such a negligible weight save.

Especially that commuter bike is supposed to last and being as reliable as possible.

    At least in my books…

Welcome to the UK bike industry in 2021…

I’m living in UK for last 15 years. I know realities, but that is not the case in that particular one.
As without voodoo and black magic I found UK stock of mentioned chainring in 45 seconds with a little help of google and ebay search…

I remember seeing someone on Strava doing one of famous TdF tops (AdH or something like that) on the folder.

    Peaks running surprisingly dry.

Slabs around Bog of Doom on Cut Gate are nice. Good to be able to pass without losing wheel or leg. Not sure about some gravel dumped on the other side, just as you start rolling down from Howden Edge. Luckily only very short section graveled but hopefully it is not a prophecy of Things to Come…

Nothing even gets close to that monster.
After having hard time with bad batch of Clarks (YBN) single speed chains – plates keep on snapping – decided to go whole hog. No half measures anymore.
Same chain sixth year in the row 😎

    Hullo,

Little request to “L” size Ranger owners…

Can you please check for me if website table ETT is in fact 565mm in real life?

I’m 5’10.5″ but like long frames and thinking if “L” will be long enough.

    Gotcha…

My personal experience is that all sintered pads are noisy unless they got some proper temperature.

    Especially noisy in filthy conditions.

    Even properly beaded in.

On the other hand, green Swiss Stop were probably the quietest pads I tested so far. Still have Trickstuff organic pads to test. They will go into my Forces once I’m done with current pads.

… that are green Swiss Stop :D

Except they make putting normal hubs (i.e 99% of hubs) in harder than necessary.

You can buy Hope hub and just change end caps to torque. Job done, no sweat…

    In short, no…

But poking a bit deeper… Why would you want to use sintered pads on bike that, in theory, won’t see enough breaking to make them work as they should be with high heat and prolonged usage.

… unless your HC CX verges on the edge of enduro/downhill riding…

From my personal experience with Spyres I had the best results with Swiss Stop green pads.

People will tell you that you will die and perish, but my personal experience is go for that.

Managed with absolute perfect success to set up wired Schwalbe Durano on non tubeless rim.

So you should have much, much better chance as your tyre is wider than 28c.

Some of my recordings of how it went. Sorry for the language, but attached photos should be pretty self explanatory.

    Your current A2C of forks.

A2C of forks that you need is current A2C minus difference between your current front wheel height and new 29er wheel height divided into 2.

    Job jobbed…

    Needs to be:
    130mm
    36mm stanchion
    44mm offset

Rather than that need to be corresponding A2C minus increase of front end due to usage of bigger wheel.

Providing that I have it right… 650b frame with 650b rear wheel and 29″ front wheel?

Unless by reversed mullet you meant small wheel front, big wheel rear…
… that would be pretty perverse…

But if that is the first one, it is not a problem. I used to have Inbred 26er with 29er front wheel. It was good bike.

but that helmet was also very uncomfortable

Ahhh… That ‘ole chestnut… There is no such thing as universal, comfortable helmet (or saddle, or shoes, to the lesser extent…)

I have Bell Super and it is one of the most comfortable helmets. For me.

So, sorry to disappoint but you just need to try for yourself. There is whole host of various full face or convertible helmets. There is a chance that one, or even few of them will suit you…

But if you won’t try, you won’t know…

You can try Campa 12 speed road cassette if you are feeling adventurous… 11/34 Chorus costs “measly” 149 quid (on Merlin Cycles).
But It is probably Campa freehub compatible only and Campa is probably whole different world of cassette spacing.

So yeah, basically, you need to be very, very adventurous to try that :D

Lauf is a comfort adder, Mastodon is proper forks.

Up to you, what are you really after, what are your expectations and needs.

Mind you, I have Mastodon Pro and love it. Would never swap for something like Lauf as in my eyes it is just glorified, very, very expensive – more expensive than Mastodon – pogo stick.

All depends how are you planning them to use.

If for proper offroading over-shoes for me are waste of time. The moment you are off the bike they are lifting from toe boxes of your shoes and exposing you to elements.

If you are planning just road or groomed path riding and on budget, buy over shoes.

But truth to be told, proper winter, shoes is investment for years. You will easily squeeze 4-5 seasons from your winter shoes, even with intensive usage. Unless you are habitual shoes destroyer…
