I love his books, the guy was a genius….very saddened by this news.

    “YOU FEAR TO DIE?”
    “It’s not that I don’t want… I mean, I’ve always…it’s just that life is a habit that’s hard to break…”

I’m on EP 8 of the new series…it’s gone a bit flat IMO.

I am on about episode 8 as well and think it is as brilliant as ever. Amazing series.

I would echo that it suits some but is not for everyone. I do relatively low mileage and got a deal with minimal deposit (or initial rentals), 0% and free servicing. It means i get a brand new car that i dont have to worry about mot, warranty, servicing costs or breakdown cover. Means i only have to worry about the wifes car.

I think its cold and dark but a good series. We have to balance it out after with some Indian Summers just to warm us up again. I think plenty has hapened, especially when you compare to The Killing where they drag the same murder out for two series.

Don’t really use internet based sites but a song shuffle from itunes gave me:

    Stevie Wonder
    John Peel’s Fabric mix
    Sonic Youth
    Foxygen

I looked at my music collection for inspiration and found an album called Isla by the Portico Quartet (good album it is too) and ran the idea past the wife. She really liked it (Isla not Portico Quartet) and it stayed at top of our list until she was born.

That music map is really good…like it a lot.

Not on the exact same lines but have you checked out Mount Kimbie? Really underrated IMHO, both albums are cracking. Bit of a curve ball, bat can’t recommend them enough:

I think carrying one round with a lid so he can use it as a water bottle is a bit nonsensical. But we sometimes use jam jars in the house for drinks…..mostly because they work pretty well and by recycling a few it meant one less trip to Ikea to spend a subsequent hundred quid on candles and rugs.

I hate album intros – they’re like filler, at the start, where there’s nothing to fill.

They don’t have to start in a big build up….I just meant how the start of an album grabs your attention. For example this doesn’t have a build up it just sets the tone nicely for the rest of the album.

@maccruiskeen that intros and outros is genius…..”big hello to big john wayne on xylophone” :D

I go a couple of times a week as I find it something good to do (it doesn’t involve shopping) on my lunch breaks and because work pays for the membership. If I had to go in my own free time then I’d be lucky if I went a couple of times a year….it is not something I really enjoy.

I would say only join if you could really be bothered going and giving up a couple of hours of your time each week to the not so noble pursuit of flexing in front of a mirror. Grrrrr.

So today I bought the White Stripes, White Blood Cells; Grandaddy, the Software Slump and the Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots all on vinyl as a result of this thread

That’s a mighty fine selection of albums…happy listening.

Loving The Sophtware Slump, how have I never heard of this?!?

Under the Western Freeway by Grandaddy is also pretty awesome.

Good album and you can’t beat listening to new albums on vinyl. My last one was Bill Callahan’s Dream River so you have just reminded me that I must treat myself again soon.

I have a Seiko SKX009 which is automatic and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Well built, automatic and not flash/pretentious/up it’s own arse were my prerequisites. I kept the price down so I could put a decent leather strap[/url] on it as don’t like the metal/rubber ones.

Looking at the one you have posted above this might be more appealing to you though.

expect to have your computers and USB drives confiscated and scanned (not sure if they’re still doing that)

I haven’t had this done anytime in the last 8 years and have been most years so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Not sure if this one is true, but I heard that Utd fans used to sing about goalkeeper Tim Howard, who suffers from tourettes:
    Tourettes tourettes
    He’s in our nets
    Fu*k, fu*k, fu*k

    Yeah IIRC it was
“Howard howard is in our nets,
    Howard howard has Tourettes
    S**t, F*ck, Sh*t, F*ck”

“we’re not brazil we’re northern ireland” is the most famous one round here.

It is a really nice city, with nice people and lovely beaches. Surf can be good as well if you fancy a go. As mentioned it is pricey though so I would try and negotiate with your company. Security wise I wouldn’t be worried about public transport/taxis.

No rappers been mentioned yet.. so: Tupac – can’t understand the popularity, just a rubbish rapper to my ears!

Can I add JayZ, Lil Wayne, Kanye, Drake & A$AP Rocky to that list.

@NorthWind – have you see this before? Just stumbled across it today. Seems to be a notable improvement with the kids singing instead of Pink Eyes….pretty cool vid also.

NW – I Would agree about F***ed Up. Think they decided that they were being a bit too musical for a hardcore band so decided to go with the angriest singer imaginable. Still really like them….just get the feeling I would like them more if it wasn’t for Pink Eyes.

I nominate Future Islands. His voice already annoyed me a bit but then I saw this 8O

I currently have one masquerading as a third nipple…dead centre it is….couldnt have measured it better with one of fancy laser measuring thingies. Not a bodypart (for a man anyway) where you ever think that an extra one would come in handy.

As a new member I have to say I really like the layout of the forum into bike/chat rather than a screen full of sub forums.

The only benefit I can see of having avatars and signatures is that you tell pretty quickly who is going to be really f****n annoying……but it’s much more fun working that out. I also like the fact there is no post count as that often gives people an air of superiority over new users.

I realise I am new and will be told that I know **** all about what it was like back in the good ole days but from here it looks like a really good forum.

So far as being a P user – I did that for the digital subscription rather than to remove the adverts but admit that removing them has been an added bonus.

Favourites from last year would be Spoon, Ex-Hex, Steve Gunn, Caribou, Aphex Twin, Glass Animals and Real Estate.

So far this year Sleater-Kinney and Viet Cong have been played the most.

We did this at uni – cleared the house and had a party inviting all the students we could muster as well as leaving the door open for any passers by. Prob a hundred or so throughout the night. Neighbours also not too happy. We ended up with a brick through the toilet window and loads of stuff stolen. Good party though.

I changed from an older car (7 year old Audi) that was worryingly close to landing me a big bill to a brand new Octavia on a PCP deal. The cost of the repayments on the personal loan for the Audi are the same as the payments on the Skoda. I like the fact I have peace of mind on one of the family cars. It came with 3 years free servicing, it is covered by a warranty, the road tax is £200 a year less than the Audi and it is a lot more frugal.

The payments would be around 7% of my net monthly salary. At the end of the deal I will probably hand it back and get something similar.

Can I pre-emptively add The Amazing Snakeheads to the list since the singer has decided to sack the rest of the band? I’m hoping him and the sessions musicians he has hired can prove me wrong.

If someone throws a knife at me and misses I cannot collectively punish his entire village/family/region for weeks on end.

    Shockingly bad analogy.

I know moderate Israelis who find their government’s actions abhorrent, but ultimately, the Israeli people voted in Nedanyahu’s government, so there has to be some form of support from the general populous for those actions – it’s not like his government is a step change in policy towards Palestine and it’s people from the previous to the current government.

True, unfortunately in Israel Netanyahu has a lot of support from the hard-line religious right wing. I am hopeful that in the upcoming elections that Livni and Herzog manage to stop him being successful in obtaining a fourth term. Only then can we hope for some changes in policy towards Palestine.
