What model are you having isto? I’m going from 192hp to 115hp

We have ordered a 1.4tsi SE Tech. The 1.4tsi is 150 so it has a decent turn of speed. Just over 8 seconds to 60 I think so a bit of an improvement on my wife’s 1.9 tdi Leon.

The good news if you have gone for a different engine is you have avoided what is now around a 6 month wait.

We have ordered an Ateca for my wife, currently 3 months into a 4 month wait to get it. This is due to a big demand for the 1.4 tsi engine which seems to be a good balance of performance and being fairly frugal due to it’s small size. Obviously people jumping overboard from their various diesel powered ships has also had an effect on the demand for these engines. Whilst it’s not going to worry a Golf Gti handling wise it does seem to get a lot of praise for how it out-handles most of it’s rivals.

When we test drove it we thought there was lots of space on the inside. All the reviews seem to comment on how it beats the Qashqai et al especially in boot size. We even thought it gave my Octavia a run for it’s money so far as rear legroom.

I say you have made super choice but being in a similar boat I am completely biased.

@Jambalaya They would be on par so far as build quality, both having the same platform and also a lot of the same switchgear. I think it is more down to which you prefer to drive or like the look of.

The Ateca, Karoq and Tiguan all share the same platform. The Tiguan will be slightly more upmarket inside. The Seat will be a slightly sportier drive with the Karoq being more comfort focused. Price wise I imagine the Seat and Škoda are pretty close with the VW being a step up in price.

The Ateca so far has been getting its fair share of praise over its VW sibling with the Karoq still to hit the market.

As already suggested the Seat Ateca sounds suitable. I am slightly biased as we have ordered one for my wife. I have done a fair bit of research on this and the 1.4 tsi engine seems to get really good comments on how it drives….considering it is a SUV. It is 150 bhp so has a decent turn of pace but is still pretty frugal. We test drove one but it was the diesel so until it arrives I can’t really comment on the engine, but it did corner well.

I think with Glastonbury there is always an element of ignore a lot of the shite that’s on…..but there are some gems in there with Songhoy Blues, Badbadnotgood, Warpaint and Thundercat all holding my attention anyway. Switching between Justice and Metronomy now and they are both looking good.

I watched Radiohead and the FF as well and liked both shows …wouldn’t watch Ed if you paid me but I am guessing he is make a whole lotta people happy.

My wife is a counselor and she specializes in psycho-dynamic therapy which is one of the main alternatives to the CBT approach. My understanding is that although there is a lot of hype towards CBT at the minute it is generally seen as a “quick fix” and not always suitable depending upon the issues at hand.

My advice would be go on the the BACP website and find a counselor in your area who specializes in this rather than CBT, which obviously has not worked for you.

I hope you find some suitable help.

Apparently all the craft breweries are switching to cans as it actually keeps flavour better than bottles. I heard this from a guy who is doing the artwork for a local craft brewery and they seem to know their stuff. I think some bigger ones like Beavertown also do only cans for the same reason.

Maybe the stuff you were previously drinking in cans is crap beer? Oh they were both Stella….maybe it tastes less bad in bottles. Sorry.

I recently did this and used a fitting that was designed for a swing. I got it from a retailer who supplies jungle gym equipment. It is like the eye screw posted above but it is open. We had to reinforce the beam in the roof space as well as it was weakened by the attic hatch. Worth checking the beam if possible.

Unless they’ve changed since I last used one (which admittedly was 20 years ago so it’s entirely possible), they’re large capacity, indestructible, and will vac up any old detritus you care to throw at it. However, their actual suction power is sorely lacking compared to pretty much everything else I’ve ever used.

They must have changed over the years as mine is often too powerful on the high setting….I have had to refit a badly fitted carpet because of it. Was the bagless trend not to up the wattage to rediculous levels not to just get a comparable amount of suction as a decent bagged vacuum such as a Henry.

We have a Henry…well a Harry actually, the green one for pets. Far more powerful than our previous Dyson…which I hated. Then we have a cordless for a quick run around.

Would definitely recommend a Henry or Harry.

Homemade with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and lots of blended jalapeños all over it. Finished with some rocket once it’s out of the oven. Currently cooking them on stones in the oven but I plan to make a pizza oven in the garden…once I YouTube how to make one and get my father in law to help.

My dad worked with him when he was the Minister for Education and had nothing but good things to say about the job he was doing. I also think that as Deputy First Minister he did try and do his best for the population as a whole, despite his past….and his political views. I personally don’t think there should be any parallels to Mandela and was shocked to think anyone would even entertain that notion. Let’s not get carried away with ourselves.

To the comment that nothing has changed. Are you basing this on first hand experience or just making a sweeping generalization? As someone who lives in Northern Ireland and works in Belfast I think you are talking balls. Yes there are still issues, but let’s face it…..we are not alone in having obstacles that we need to overcome.

I have seen it and I liked it and am not a girlie… although I think both me and the wife had a crush on Ryan after watching it. I am not hugely into musicals but appreciate them if they are good. I thought the music was really refreshing for a musical and the way it was shot was amazing. It is by the guy who did Whiplash after all.

I have also seen T2 and loved it. I would recommend both. La La Land was the perfect Yin to T2’s Yang.

I am in a similar situation to the Op’s.

My take on this so far is that (generally) diesel engines produce a lot more Nitrous Oxides than petrol engines. A lot of the statistics used to highlight the difference in the amount of NOX produced do not take into account that diesel engines are on average bigger and that newer diesel engines that use AdBlue technology are closing this gap significantly.

On the flip side of this, petrol cars (generally) produce more Carbon Dioxides than their diesel counterparts but this gap is also now closing with the introduction of smaller petrol engines that are lighter and are more economical.

So when it comes to looking for a new car I should be looking to either choose a newer diesel engine or a smaller petrol engine that is as economical as possible. Regardless of the number of miles covered, is this not the best way to go?

This song has already been posted but I was amazed at seeing this live performance of Stagger Lee at Glastonbury. Unfortunately, I only saw it on TV but even then it blew me away. Just amazing:

DezB you did start waxing lyrically but it was a hip hop thread after all,

I have been checking all the Aesop stuff out, a fair bit I hadn’t heard before so cheers for that.

I love this old one…I remember listening to it on repeat…a lot:

I like Clipping which if I remember correctly was suggested by DezB on a similar hip hop thread I started a couple of years ago….there’s some good suggestions on there.

A few tracks I really like that I have only discovered recently:

I have a couple of pairs of ED-55’s and a couple of Uniqlo’s and they are on par quality wise (if you get Uniqlo’s Kaihara denim). You would be doing well not to pay double the price for the Edwin’s.

The only wash of any significance is the first wash. Wearing the jeans for some time before the first wash causes the dye to fade in a way that highlights the creases etc. If the denim is washed while it’s still relatively new the dye will fade uniformly

I am not sure this is right as I have found the more you wear a pair of jeans between subsequent washes the more pronounced the fading is. But the first wash is definitely the only one I would bother delaying if you want “wicked fades” or whatever **** name they have given it.

Once people start putting their jeans in the freezer then they have too much time on their hands….in my opinion of course.

The whole point of not washing them is so that the indigo fades more on the places that you want distinct fading (the places where the fabric naturally creases, pockets etc).

If you are not bothered about the jeans showing wear in this way and want the jeans just to fade all over then regular washes are fine.

I would go with Uniqlo. For the price you can’t beat the Kaihara Japanese denim. It should last a long time as an everyday pair of jeans. The trick is working out which jeans on their site use this fabric.

Speaking of Bonobo and mixes here is a mix I did fairly recently….if anyone is bored enough to have a listen. It’s kind of similar to the stuff he mixes (without the talent obviously) and it has a couple of his tracks/remixes on it.

Thanks for reminding me the XX album is out today DezB. Just had a listen and am impressed….it’s already grown on me more than the last album.

Now I am going to have a listen to the new Bonobo album which is also released today. Friday 13th rocks.

I am really liking that Causa Sui – good call Malvern Rider.

Mine would be Anchorsong-Ceremonial. I have a big list but for once I have managed to whittle it down to one….it has had the most plays anyway.

I think it is responsive rather than adaptive as it resizes according to the size of your browser rather than predefined screen sizes. Unless someone points out that they are all predefined (rather than fluid) in which case I will eat my Christmas cracker paper party hat.

I think the changes are all good and as has been said before, there are always bugs to iron out. Users also always generally hate change and moan for a while before generally forgetting what they are moaning about. Well done STW dev people. I also like the deployment approach of “whack it live just before Christmas and everyone will be too drunk to realize”.

Whilst surfing in Australia we stupidly went for a sunset surf on a notoriously quick break. We had a local guide who was an ex-pro surfer that we became friendly with who obviously over estimated our skills. We were competent on mini-mals/long-boards but no short-board surfers. He did also worn us it was a bit sharky (tigers I think) but at this stage our bravado had got the better of us. Needless to say I got slammed on the first large wave I paddled into, straight into my board. My knee developed a bit of a gash and started bleeding a bit. It wasn’t too bad so I was going to give it another shot but was quickly advised to get out of the water pronto as it was one tick box too many on the list of “things sharks like”.

Here’s a pic of me on a much calmer…..and more suitable wave.
