That’s even better news than hearing I could save four grand on stamp duty.

I have been having a look recently and Tesco has a deal on Talisker (not Islay I know, but there are similarities and it is a nice whisky). Aside from that Asda’s own brand Islay seems to get a decent write up here.

Am really liking The Amazing Snakeheads and The Acid…..good recommendations as first time I have checked out either of them.

My favourite Young Fathers track is this off their last album:

…although War is a cracking track.

Don’t really get FKA Twig….just sounds to me like bad R&B over one of Rustie’s off cuts. But I am not a huge fan of R&B so that probably explains why I am missing out.

I forgot Mogwai released that this year, it definitely should have been on my list.

Mine would be:

Caribou – Our Love – all songs except Second Chance which does my head in

Spoon – They Want My Soul – every song is really good….very accessible album

The Phantom Band – Strange Friend – takes a few listens but I found it really rewarding after a few initial WTF moments

Parquet Courts – Bodies – quirky and awesome

Shellac – Dude Incredible – for producing another album that makes me want to take a shower after listening to it

Fugazi – First demo – its only just out but I have been listening to it non-stop for the last week…..for me an insight into an amazing band

I am still listening to various hip-hop albums recommended to me by the kind residents of STW. So far my favourite released this year would be JJ Dooms remix album Bookhead.

Some ladeez: Azealia Banks

I listened to that 212 song non-stop for months…..amazing tune. Wasn’t really that fussed on her other stuff though. For anyone who hasn’t heard it…..it’s well worth a listen. Bear in mind….it is very rude

But once you go – ooh I like that, lets find some more like that – you end up very disappointed indeed

Know what you mean. I remember hearing this and thinking there must be loads of hip hop that is this good that isn’t about BitchesGunsAndDollaDollaBills y’all. I have found some (albeit maybe not quite as good as this) but it seems pretty difficult to find.

Don’t get me wrong. Straight Outta Compton was awesome, so was 36 Chambers but they made a lot of the stuff in between and after seem…well..a bit bollocks.

Wow some really good recommendations there, cheers. Handsome Boy Modelling School\Deltron3030, Solesides and People Under The Stairs were ones I probably should have already added as favourites. MF Doom I already appreciated was good but hadn’t realised how good until picking up JJ Doom recently.

There’s loads there I haven’t listened to so looking forward to checking them out. I can’t YouTube in work but will check out all the links when I get home.

Would recommend these three albums to anyone as all are really easy to get into and I think they are outstanding albums:

Real Estate – Atlas
Bill Callahan – Apocalypse
Spoon – They Want My Soul

Stout and ale pie. For pie fans M&S deli ones are damn good.
Laphroaig
Watching World war 2 in colour. Earlier was listening to JJ Doom.

I replaced the integrated Smeg one we had with an integrated Bush one as was put off by the price of replacing it like for like. I was a bit dubious before buying as I thought it was really cheap – about £220 I think. But the reviews were really good so went ahead and it does a really good job. Pretty straightforward to fit as well – bit fiddly putting the door fascia on but apart from that not too bad.

I have a T129 but mine is large. I have noticed that the seat post is ridiculously long as well but as I am tall I haven’t need to cut it down.

As sync said just trim it down and it should be fine. Hope you enjoy the new bike.

Within reason no, I wouldn’t be offended by a different political view. But, if I’m honest it probably depends on how extreme the view and whether they are rubbing my face in it.

I have always had ipods but at the same time had reservations on a lot of the apple stuff as I thought the hardware was overpriced for the spec offered. I always built my own PC’s so thought the componentry used (although v nicely packaged) was way below spec considering the asking price.

Saying that I am largely consigned to use a Windows PC anyway as I need one for software development. I have as yet never had an iPhone but this may change as am being given one for work. I think this may be a shock to the system as I have had Android phones since they first released the operating system.

I agree with the comment that Windows has upped it’s game with regards to it’s PC Operating systems and that might have tightened the gap rather than Apple losing it’s way.

Wii with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Mario Kart. I gave mine to my friends 5 year old and he loves it. It is now his life’s ambition to beat all my high scores.

I’ve got minidiscs from around 2001(+cdr’s of Napster/Limewire recordings) with stuff like CabbageBoy solid steels that I want to put on the hard drive but not sure which way will be best.

You should just be able to hook up your minidisc player to your soundcard and then use a program called Audacity (there are lots of others but this is free and fairly straightforward) to record the Minidiscs to WAV. From there you can convert to MP3 in Audacity provided you have the Lame plugin installed.

Here’s a link to the Audacity site.

That’s pretty cool that Danny Mac is a fan….he obviously has good taste :D

So you want to bully people, to use your term, into not criticizing a very nasty and brutal regime.

Ernie you will notice I have not voiced my opinion on Israel as I do not think it is relevant to this thread. That is my point. I have no problem with your opinion. I just do not think sharing it on this thread is anyway helping the plight of the Palestinian people.

jambalaya

let’s keep it on the footy thing. I shouldn’t have gotten involved. I thought the joke about the wall was quite a good one.

Yip I have no problem with that….and the joke about the wall was proper funny.

The original topic was quite interesting. So actually was the comment about accents…..I learnt something new which is always good. The rant about Israel less so.

You steered the conversation down a path…..which most likely you have done many times before. In fact I hazard a guess if I use the search feature (despite its inadequacies) I will find your name brandished against several posts stating your views on the Middle East.

As I said late last night. Yawn.

Yip I sure am. Cool….cheers for that, start sounds really good and have cued the rest up for when I hit work tomorrow.

Ernie. My point was that you used a topic started on – “Why are Israel allowed to compete in the European Championship at football “.

As a segue into – “None of the Israeli government spokesmen I see interviewed on the news ever seem to have Middle Eastern accent”.

To bully people into talking about the topic you want really want to talk about.

They are settlers because they are colonizing land. Land which belongs to the Palestinian people.

They often have accents which bear no connection with the Middle East.

It seems that the head of the IDF International Branch and lead spokesperson is originally from London but moved to Israel when he was 12 – so speaks English in an English accent.

you know, unlike the Palestinians whose land they’ve taken and who are actually Middle Eastern ?

Are you warming up for Facebook or is it not anonymous enough for you?

Yes. To me it usually sounds like someone who speaks Hebrew as a first language but also speaks very good English.

They watch a lot of American TV though if that helps with your generalisation.

isto

So speaking Hebrew makes you speak English with an American accent ?

I was merely saying that their English dialect might sound different, as they speak a different language. You did not mention that they sounded American.

They are also in the Eurovision.

Their English accents might be different to what you associate as Middle Eastern because they speak Hebrew rather than Arabic.

The best gig I have been to is watching Mogwai perform right at the start of their career (touring just when Ten Rapid was released). They were touring with Arab Strap who decided to join them all for the last song of the night….each of them beating a drum to the yet to be released “Mogwai Fear Satan”, which climaxed in a ten minute wall of sound.

The venue looked sparse with around only fifty people present but they played as if it there last ever show.

Maybe the OP just hasn’t yet been to an inspiring gig. Only advice I could offer is to persevere.

I HATE the Manics, they’re awful. Even their early stuff. I also don’t like the Smiths, U2 are poop

Look on the bright side….at least no one has said Coldplay yet.

Cubist – cheers for that. Good to know how they put it all together…..that’s some setup.

Maccruisken. Yip that Pauls Boutique one is brilliant. Have you heard the 3 Feet High and Rising one? Really good as well.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and was suggested Octomore.

It was however out of budget and I opted for Yamazaki in the end as I heard good things and it also won Whisky of the year.

 on Lightning Bolt

Also Mogwai have been really dependable whilst changing a fair bit throughout the years.

So far as well known bands it would have to be QOTSA for me:

For less well known bands it would have to be Shellac (22 odd years):

Its even about riding bikes :D

Never seen that version of timber before…..awesome. Pretty impressive that they rewrote the whole track just so it went with the video they were putting together.

Bobby Corridor sounds pretty damn good so far. Cheers for that.
