Speaking of cheap lights, any recommendations for a F+R set for my boys?
Don’t need to be trail ready just something relatively cheap and cheerful to keep them safe riding home at night!

Not mine but my 12yr old sons shoes. He struggles with shoes and clothes with the fit and feel of stuff so literally wears stuff till they fall off him, can’t be comfy riding a set of flats with these!

I’d just follow Ali’s instructions. I’ve had loads of wheels he’s built and built quite a few of my own from his instructions and his are generally bombproof!

    Stockport Powder Coating (http://www.stockportpowdercoating.com/).
Used them a few times for bikes, boss is a perfectionist!

Basically it’s not going to happen, no matter what any of the “for” team say it is just not financially viable.
I work in the signalboxes in the the area and predominantly in the ones around Buxton and have done for the last 12½ years so have a pretty good idea of how things could and do cost and if people were alarmed at the cost of HS2 then the cost of a small single line will be very upsetting!

For a start the tunnels would need a lot of work, the existing ones around the quarries in Dove Holes and the main line towards Edale are constantly being maintained at the weekends so there is a lot to catch up on there.
The line is only a single line and if reopened the main aim would be, as others have said, to get freight not only off the roads but off the Hope Valley lines where it causes a lot of delays to passenger services so running passenger trains inbetween would be next to impossible other than the odd weekend only service.
Then you have to take into account not just the cost of re-railing, ballasting, signalling (which includes all the communications and cabling), new signalboxes, staffing (would probably be a couple of grade 3+ boxes required, at least 3 staff on £45k+ wages) not to mention the upgrades required at Buxton Station to link everything up.
Now baring in mind just a refresh of an existing signalbox alone can cost upwards of £250,000 (believe me, I don’t know how it is possible but….) you’re talking easily upwards of £25 million just to get the grass roots laid which would never, ever be recouped with the traffic that could be expected.

TLDR, the potential benefits vastly underweigh the potential costs.

Only solution is to ditch Hope. I know a lot of trials riders who have had the exact same problem with the Pro 4 trials hub, one lad who lives near the factory and has taken the problem up with them has gone through I think 4 or 5 in the last year

I’ve got a Big Dog which is similar geo with the Selcof fork and I love it.
Requested it specifically as I fancied a change from suspension and would make commuting a bit speedier.

Taken it over Jacob’s Ladder amongst other places and it’s been fantastic, best bike I’ve had in years!

My go to summer mountain bike shoe is the five tennie which is a bouldering shoe, grip with Dmr vaults is perfect, they are plenty stiff enough and they are good for walking up wet woodland / moorland or lakes mountains.. not for everyone

Pretty much same here but mine are the standard Adidas version, the Swift Solo (they were the original).

Yeah just straight swap of the freewheel, I changed my nephews at the weekend as the standard one fitted had died

Just dicking about to be honest, I’m still trying to convince myself I don’t need to build a trail centre/jump rig up as I’ve just cleared out all the bikes I own and never ride!

Adidas Terrex Swift Solo for me or the Terrex Trail Cross. Both been daily wear until they literally fell to pieces (that’s a lie, lasted over two years each and still would have kept going if I didn’t just fancy a change!)

I like it but the fact the wheels have a rider/luggage weight limit of 95kg made me chuckle.

Similar story here though of rigid mtb running carbon forks (On-One Big Dog so no lightweight) for mixing in a bit of road with some trails. Did a quick 14 miler the other day up Beet Lane and round South Head then down into Hayfield and back to Chapel via the Sett Valley Trail, Canal and Eccles Pike.

Am I the only person who hates their MT500?
All the seam waterproofing is peeling off on the inside and I’ve never found it overly comfortable to wear. Looking back I wish I’d have bought a couple more Altura Mayhem jackets when they were reduced as that for me was miles better.

A friend of mine is currently chasing this issue up with Hope as a major problem as he’s done 3-4 hubs himself all with the same problem which Hope are denying is widespread.
If you contact them regarding it just enquire if there have been many other problems as I know for a fact they are aware of the situation!

Actually just checked and I used an XT cassette, I think Sora mech and a goatlink to get the clearance over the sprockets with a Sora brifter

I converted my CdF to 1×10 a few years ago running an XT rear mech and cassette with Sora brifter and I think a goat link..

People who say it’s pointless are wrong and those who say you have to do a loading phase are wrong.
1 scoop in some juice/water before a ride will definitely make a difference and I don’t think you’ll suffer too badly from water retention. It comes naturally from meat and like some have said it’s one of the ingredients of the chemical that regenerates energy in your muscles so takinh a supplement means that when you use the energy it can be restored faster.

Personally I would recommend giving it a go for a month to see how you find it, it’s not expensive (assuming you have just bought straight Creatine powder and none of those flavoured versions), don’t bother loading just take one scoop a day preferably 30-60mins before exercising/cycling on the days you do and see how you feel.

I’ve taken it for years and can definitely see a difference when I run out.

I’ve been using mine for commuting mainly woth some carbon rigid forks and it’s absolutely fantastic. I think it will be a great bike for a big Summer trip!

I use them for blasting around on a bit of road and light trails and they’re great.
As for distracting you or being unable to hear oncoming vehicles I find the majority of roadies either don’t hear cars anyway or if they do they completely ignore them.
I know when I ride on the road headphones or not I struggle to hear cars behind me so regularly check anyway.
Can’t be any worse than wesring a buff or bandana covering your ears to keep them warm.

Gone with Petplan, went via Quidco to get a 10% discount and £42.50 cashback.
Price worked out roughly the same as most others that way.
Got 4 weeks free insurance from the vets when we registered her so the 2 week thing shouldn’t matter as they’ll over run (slightly naughty but….).

That’s where you’re wrong, it’s not quite a steel is steel thing.
I have a friend who was producing disc brake rotors as part of a number of custom bike parts and they never took off because the steel he used was too hard so they never worked properly.
Same goes for Echo Bikes who make trials stuff, their disc rotors are notoriously hard and switching out for Hope Trials rotors makes a huge difference.

At the moment it’s got these 180/160 Riderever rotors fitted and they’re just useless. No bite and only get worse when warmed up!

Think I was off for nearly 3 months but then I rode trials so quite a lot more pressure on the ankle!
Could jump on a trainer for steady sessions after about 6-8 weeks though.
I bought one of these https://www.healthandcare.co.uk/ankle-braces/02MXSR.html?gclid=CjwKCAiApNSABhAlEiwANuR9YJWd3iNAyxWor8SQEvjgt62Ohf9lTRrODD1MOsacmXcOY33ICPF3dBoC9wwQAvD_BwE when I started back on the bike (Andy Murray used to wear one on each ankle for playing tennis, fantastic braces) and I still, very occasionally, wear it when I get ankle pain. This is 8/9 years later mind.

Not quite Europe related but I ordered a pair of rims from a Canadian website on 2nd Jan, they got dispatched from China and after a brief stop in Miami they’re currently sat in Puerto Rico.
God only knows where’s next on their journey but I hope they have enjoyed visiting places I can only dream of!

Check out One Industries, I just ordered my son a pair of shorts and long sleeve top off Ebay for £45 for the pair. Some nice designs as well so will probably treat myself at some point!

Frame problem solved, cheap, right geometry and now with a disc mount so you can actually stop.

Der Kaiser was always my go to rear tyre on my trials bike as the grip and puncture protection was unreal.
I’d happily run one on my mtb but I cover quite a few road miles going to/from trails which eats up black chilli tyres.

Mines more like one month in but set up standard full build currently with some carbon rigid forks and I’m loving it for quick blasts out on simple trails and bits of road work.
Sold my full sus as a result of buying this and I couldn’t be happier!

I’ve still got my omming keyring but the arms broke off years ago.
Had a mint sauce tee as well for having a letter printed in MBUK, took it to Bike 98 and got it signed by Will Longden, Steve Peat, Adele Croxon(spelling?), Helen Gaskell, Jo Burt and a few others.
Sold it on Ebay though years ago as it was just sat in a drawer.

I build them dry then drop a few drops of muc off chain oil from the inside of the rim onto the nipple/spoke.
Been doing it this way for years on mtb’s, unicycle wheels and trials wheels (and they take far more hammer than any others) and never had a problem

Intriguing, I ordered a pair of 24″ DMR Backline rims yesterday from a European website (literally have no idea where they’re based) on a bit of a gamble as the site looked dodgy but the rims were only €11 each and shipped it was a smidge over £40 so not a great deal to lose. All the site showed was the price of the rims and €20 odd shipping.
Apparently on there way so will see what happens when (if) they reach the country!

I didn’t intend to use it as a position adjuster, it’s just the first time I used it the lever just simply spun around so I had to use this to fix it back in position

Wow, after reading the last few pages in here I thought I’d check the spoke tension on my new Big Dog and I’m glad I did as they are extremely undertensioned! Definitely need to have a quick dabble with the spoke key before it goes anywhere major off road!
