I used the model before these ones, they were absolutely brilliant brakes. Easilly as good as my slx’s.

i was joking mate, I’m ok with drops and jumps, but give me something a foot wide, 2 foot off the ground and i wouldn’t be able to ride it. Honestly though, the only way to lose the fear of gaps is to actually do some!

I didnt do my a-levels, instead I did an apprenticeship. I earn more money than many friends who did do rthe a-levels and uni route, and i have been earning that money for longer. But i wish that i’d dont emy a levels, as now that im older and i want to change career and go to university, I find myself in a position where its alot harder to gain entry to a course.

I’d say stick with it, its only a year.

msp- there is plenty of music being made that talks about these issues, and alot of people who listen to it and appreciate it.

4 years is a good ammount of time to keep kit you’ll get some money for the old forks as well, so that will either make it cheaper or mean you can spend money on some new bars or tyres etc.
If you want to buy new stuff, just do it, ignore this lot telling you you shouldnt spend your money.

id say sell the brakes as other people are advising, then but slx or xts, AND buy the forks.

the bike track looks good, it looks like alot fun. But sod that drop, i wouldnt ride parts of that as i hate heights. As for the video kit posted, that is the only video like that which has actually scared me.its going to give me nightmares i think.

the genesis bikes are great, up till tonigth i owned one, and out of all the hardtails i’ve had, it is easily the best for what you describe. The zen’s are very nice as well, but a bit more aggressive, They offer very good value for money as well.

i just read some advice above that scares me. I ride bmx trails, some are rather big to be honest, but i’m guessing you wont be jumping anything like them, more likely it will be mellow lips, and long mellow landings. Definitely don’t try to land front wheel first when you start to learn! this is asking for trouble in my opinion. Try to get used to jumping a tabletop somewhere, and keeping the front wheel level with the back, until you can spot the landing, then you slowly try to land front wheel at the same time as the back, and when you get really confident, land front wheel first. Then when you get to a similar sized double, your best bet is to follow someone a few times towards the lip, but stop before hitting the jump, this will help you to judge speed etc. then when you hit the jump you can use the ‘spotting the landing’ technique. This is important, to make sure you dont come up short on the front wheel, as you will almost definitely go ove the bars. If you just hang up on the back wheel, the likelihood is, youll be fine, it wil just be a bit harsh, I managed to come up short with the back wheel ( as in right into the vertical part on the back) on a 20 foot racer, and roll away. The front would have been a different story altogether.

That probably makes no sense though unless you have someone show you the techniques im talking about.

pieface, i have a genesis latitude frame, in good conditoin, its 853 tubing and designed for 120mm forks. it has very similar geometry to a soul. Would that be of interest to you?

oh and as someone else said, i dont know what position you brake levers are in, but alot if people have them very low. this putss your weight further over the front when descending. It might be worth moving them up a bit, to see how this effects your body position when braking

    I’d have

1 – a custom made bmx, robably built by fbm. With profile elites and basically the nicest stuff i could find to build a strong light trails bike.

    2) a custom ti frame, built to feel as much like a bmx as possible on jumps, but still be able to pedal for a few hours, built with 1 x 10 xtr everywhere, chris king etc, and some nice 120mm forks.

    3) dh bike, not sure what.

4)140mm bike, but not sure what, probably a last herb.

but that leaves no room for all the other bikes i want

    3)

thanks, brant how do you think it would be with 120mm forks? I’m not into long travel on a hardtail, but want a slack head angle. I love low bottom brackets as well, but is it likely to be getting too low? Why does no one build a frame made for shortish travel forks, that can be pedalled ( ie not a 4x frame size) and properly abused?

ah just seen the size, I’d buy a small frame as i dont think i’d get a long enough seatpost for the xs frame being 5ft 10
