B They can retun it to sender who can post it again if they want you to get it. £1 I might pay. Not £7.

    Costco are fussy.

” Vector 4 Season Tyres must be fitted in sets of four unless the vehicle already has the same variant of Vector 4 Season Tyres fitted.”

    https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Automotive/Tyres-Accessories/Tyres/Goodyear-22550-R17-Vector-4Seasons-Gen-3/tire/p/576590

And when I got a pair of Vector Gen 2s fitted they put the new ones on the back. Last time I bought a pair somewhere else so I could get them on the front with the aim of all 4 wearing out at the same time. After 8 years on Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 time for something new in a year or so.

Don’t over think or over target the exercise. If you can do 30m or more cardio stuff 4 or 5 days a week you are doing more than the vast majority of the population. Doing more? Great, but don’t worry if it isn’t every week.

In my early 60s I try and do a short bike ride, a swim, or a jog 5 or 6 days a week. I’ll never win any races but for health and reducing stress it seems to work.

“healthy eating, meditation, cold water treatment, yoga, breathing techniques, journaling,”

I would say exercise and healthy eating is all you need.

For anybody in the Glasgow area I have used this guy for scanning a few slides. Good quality and cheap as far as I remember.

I have had quite a few dog incidents in the USA. As I rode past the dog spotted me and started to sprint towards to road. I never try and outrun them. Not happening on a loaded touring bike and risking a crash if it gets under the wheel. I stop. Keep the bike between me and it. Thereafter many just stop barking and are friendly. It’s the chase they want. Walk slowly away and get back on when they lose interest. Others that keep barking at me I tell, loudly, to go home. Often works. Only twice did I get an aggressive dog which continued barking as I held the bike between us and shouted at it. In both cases the owners appeared after a minute or two and called them off.

Mainly happened on quiet roads. I guess untethered dogs that run onto busy roads have a short life expectancy.

In this country I haven’t had much of an issue. I got chased by a sheepdog in South Uist and happened to remember the gaelic for “go home” which worked.

Did it on my bike first UK ride after 2 years living in Canada. Along similar lines, when driving in the USA for a 3 week holiday for some reason I can never get comfortable with LH turns. It just feels wrong. Everything else seems to come together OK.

I would argue almost nobody needs winter tyres judging by this Autoexpress test. They tested various winter tyres but included an all season (Goodyear Vector Gen 3) and a summer.

Snow braking it got 95% of the performance of the best winter. That was better than half the winter tyres.

Snow traction 94% as good as the best winter. Snow handling 98% as good.

Not many people need that last 5% when you can just run one set of tyres all year and be 95% as good on snow..

If an umbrella is good enough for Nick Crane while walking Europe north to south it’s good enough to me.

Also, of course a bike packer back in the 80s.

A picture of the driver’s face is desirable but not essential. For traffic offences either the reg keeper names the driver or the reg keeper gets charged with failing to name the driver. It’s how speed cameras which photograph your rear plate are processed.

I guess as there isn’t the police time to prosecute everything reported to them at least clear guidelines are useful.

With Goodyear Vector 4 seasons my fwd Octavia managed to get me out the estate one year when the unplowed fresh snow was above the bottom of the bumper. Nobody else got out. Very rarely need the snow performance but for an extra £30 or so a tyre it is worth having it. One year driving home from Torridon on New Year’s day we were driving on snow for 20 miles or so over the hill to the Great Glen. Made a nervous drive on summers completely relaxed.

Costco currently doing 4x Goodyear Vectors 215/55 R17 at £128 each. Almost £50 a tyre cheaper than Black Circles.

Ride my bike on the roads locally stopping for a pint maybe 3x a week. Swim 2x a week. Walk the dogs every day. Online chess. Bothy trips once or twice a month with dog or MTB depending where I’m going.

This week prompted by the PSA thread I’ve ordered Schwalbe winter tyres and a few bits to convert a spare bike to a winter commuter for my son. For him but I enjoy tinkering with bikes. And as he rides to work every day all year round having a safe option for icy roads is a big plus.

After reading the thread I’m feeling very thrifty. Only 4 pairs.

An old pair Shimano MO87s. I really wish I’d bought a second pair when they were on the market. Great fit.
    Shimano XC3s.

Car prices have gone crazy. Closest I can find to my car is this Superb at £15k. I paid £18.3k brand new more than 6 years ago. £600 a year depreciation.

    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202409164098868?sort=relevance&twcs=true&advertising-location=at_cars&body-type=Estate&fuel-type=Petrol&make=Skoda&maximum-mileage=70000&minimum-mileage=50000&model=Superb&postcode=g62%207ru&transmission=Automatic&year-from=2017&year-to=2019&fromsra

at the price they seem to be selling for the Suprb doesn’t look good value compared to other options.

In the spirit of recommending what you have – 2018 era or newer petrol Superb Estate. Huge boot. I’m 6ft3 and can easily sleep in the back with the seats down. Around 50mph for my 1.4Tsi cruising at 65-70. 6 years old. No issues at 60k miles.

Note – I go my cambelt changed last year. This year I think Skoda changed the requirement to every 100k.

I had an Octavia before and drove the Octavia Scout at work. The Superb is a bit more refined. A few little touches the Octavia doesn’t have. Boonet goes up on a gas strut. Rear boot light is on a magnet. Take it off it’s a torch.

Strangely for a poison,  those who drink small amounts live longer than abstainers.

“The j shaped curve shows that light and moderate drinkers of any form of alcohol live longer than those who abstain or drink heavily.”

“Wind now accounts for approximately 23-25% of the UK’s energy,”

I think you are confusing energy and electricity. Wind solar and hydro are around 6% with around 3/4 being gas and oil.

“In 2022, the United Kingdom’s total energy supply (TES) was primarily composed of natural gas, contributing 39.4%, followed by oil at 34.8%, nuclear power at 8.1%, and coal at 3.2%. Biofuels and waste contributed 8.9%, while other renewable sources such as wind, solar, and hydro collectively accounted for 5.6% of the energy mix.”

Apparently the get out is they are self employed.

As far as I am aware the police can seize any uninsured motor vehicle being used on a road. It is then not released until a valid insurance certificate is produced. As these bikes are not insurable every seized bike is permanently off the roads.

It wouldn’t be long before the message got out.

Perhaps he needs to call for the police to enforce existing laws? Cracking down on widespread use of illegal motorbikes for food delivery would be a start.

Unlucky. My Rotary Super Seven diver is a couple of years old now, no issues.

That said two failures suggest problems with current production.

Slightly over budget, I am thinking of getting one of these. UK design and quality control. I have the Model 1 and 2 which are several years old with no issues.

Some people are poor at assessing risks. There was a  child killed at our local reservoir. There is an unfenced path running along a high  embankment. Parents allowed child to cycle along this path. Lost control and went down embankment hitting the stone wall at the bottom.

Sometime after this death the council recommended it as a safe cycling route. Risk assessment having gone no further than no cars

“that most definitely looks like a deliberate strike by the pedestrian to me. both should be charged”

Seriously? The court accepted it was a slow down gesture.

The rider has a long record of violence and came back after the crash to threaten the pedestrian.

“A judge at Swansea Crown Court said it was clear the 18-year-old – who has a history of offending including threatening with a bladed article, affray, burglary, sexual assault, possession of cannabis, public order matters, criminal damage, and possession of knives – believed he was a “big man” in a gang.”

Chuck your possible specs into a gear calculator.  I reckon your 10*50 is roughly the same as my lowest gear on a 3*9 tourer. I still walk some hills.

Personally I feel any more than one gear lower would be too slow to balance. I can ride my current gear at around 4mph.

I would go with a 30t. One gear lower and still around 82inches top end.

Of course you could burn a huge amount of ethanol before getting anywhere near the cost of buying and installing a woodburner.

Costs 67-£1 per kWh to run. Cheaper with a fancy electric fire which has the advantage of not adding moisture to the room like burning ethanol will.

“With about 6kWh of heat in every litre of bioethanol, the cost per kWh is 67p if the price per litre is £4 and £1 per kWh if the price is £6 a litre. ”

Changed days. I saw the Stones at Glasgow Apollo in 1982. The gig wasn’t announced until the week before. I was in my flat a mile away from the box office when they announced it on Radio Clyde. By the time I walked up the queue vwas so long the stalls were sold out. I ended up front balcony.

    Tickets were £6.50.

I was wondering if my memory vwas playing tricks but no. Gigs not announced until the week before.

Better the cash going to the act than them selling tickets at under market value and the profits going to ticket touts.  Too expensive? Don’t buy them.
