I had one of these forks and rode them for about 4 years. 7 months ago the carbon and alloy parted company over the course of a couple of rides (it felt like the front hub started to get lots of play in it and got progressively worse to the point that it felt like the whole front of the bike was about to collapse under me particularly when heading downhill at speed which was very worrying at the time …. – at that point I noticed it was the forks and not anything else).

As the forks were pretty well used I eventually binned them (wish I’d held onto them now) and bought a new set.

    My forks were 2010/2011 DC07.

Caswell and Langland are both good.

Both beaches fairly popular with triathletes for training.

I went on the SUP this evening (around Caswell) and spotted a fair few jellyfish mind.

    I have a honda sh300i.

My commute is about 10 miles – I usually cycle but when I’m late I’ll take the scooter.

Its a slowish commute – nowhere really over 50 mph and quite a lot of filtering.

For this its ideal. Not so quick I feel like driving like a lunatic but enough ooomph to get away quickly from the lights.

If I had a commute with fast A roads etc I’d be looking for something bigger.

Did it last year and doing it again this year.

Closed roads make it a very enjoyable ride and is more than worth it even if you aren’t riding ‘the best roads’ in the area.

Last year there were lots of moaners – however there were also lots of locals behind it and some great support on the route.

Best thing on TV. Saves hours of watching as it gives a funny round up of what’s been on 🙂

Everyone I know with a leaf / zoe or i3 (and there’s a few of them) are really happy with them. The 2 guys I know with tesla model s’s are really really happy with them.

Got my order in at 3.30 am when the website opened.

One concern is the lack of hatchback for bike / surfboard transport. Not sure about roof racks on the glass roof.

Never drive more than 200 miles in a day, have a driveway etc like millions of others.

People seem to forget how much more pleasant our towns would be if there weren’t thousands of noisy cars around belching crap into the atmosphere. Oh no but a car’s got to be noisy or people are going to DIE. Damn cancel that order.

Put my order in last night when the website opened. (3.30 am). Said I’d reserved one online but as yet no email confirmation and money still in my account ….

As an aside a couple of friends have the model s. Just an amazing car.

Edit – just had a call coincidentally from the Nu heat guy. The lo pro uses 10mm pipes, raises the floor by 15mm and the pipes are laid into gypsum backing board. He also said again that approx 10% of the heat would be lost downwards.

The quote for 65 sqm was 3800 + vat.
The price for a traditional wet system, which would involve digging the floor and putting in insulation etc was 1800 + VAT.

He reckons running costs between the 2 systems would be similar, they work at the same heat, just one has more pipe work and is more responsive.

I too was sceptical about the 10% figure. There is some form of foil underneath the pipes in the nu heat lo pro but can’t see how 90% would still go into the room.

I was quoted 4600 (inc vat) from lo pro 15 floor for 65 sqm. They also said that about 10% of the heat goes down into the uninsulated floor as opposed up into the room.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I will be liable for the costs then. As the current surveyor (who was agreed via email but not officially by the neighbour) has done most of the prep work then hopefully the new surveyor won’t need too much time. The current surveyor has also said that the award will be drawn up by the surveyors so hopefully this will take the neighbour out of the proceedings.

Need the award as we are building within 3 m of the neighbours foundations.

You’ll get too hot kiting there – its a physical sport you know. (not jealous at all).

Earlier this week (Van of course) noticed baby seat was going mouldy, damp smell in car not helped by me leaving wetsuits, surfing equipment and large wet dog in there. (large dog not permanently).

Put electric dehumidifier in twice this week and probably had a pints worth of water in the collector. Not sure if this was just sucked through the airvents though.

This morning bought a rechargeable dehumidifier off amazon (18 quid). See how that goes.

Have heard recommendations for cat litter as well.

The kit you’ve bought sounds very old. There’s a large range overlap between a 12.5 and 14m kite. If the lines are also really old there is a higher risk of them snapping. Without being inflatable the kites will be a sod to relaunch should the need arise.

Being that cheap probably isn’t the best way to get into it. Better to go for lessons and if you really like it it then buy suitable equipment.

    Thanks for the replies.

1: Its not a party wall – but you still need a party wall notice if its within 3 metres of their foundations.

2: We have a party wall surveyor (joint) he basically says what martinhutch says regarding the length of time the wall has been there.

3: Will look into the land law limitation but suspect that this will involve time and solicitors so think I will have to try and not be bitter but take it on the head 🙂

4: Concrete to pour – Fred West to the forum please.

5: A split cost would be a nice (but unlikely) outcome.

I’ll be purchasing some Hue bulbs and the bridge as soon as the latest siri enabled version comes out. Will be renovating a house soon and will have an open plan kitchen / dining / living area. Different scenes would be good for the different functions of the room.

    * Must stop reading articles about lighting in magazines.

SC Tallboy Carbon for me as well. Test rode one the other day at Afan. Amazing bike.

We got a 50% response on our Tender, which I thought might be £50-60k and came in at £120-140k (inc VAT)

    Ouch.

Estimate of approx 50k would just be for the structural side of things (building above garage and extending the entire back of the house which is a 60’s chalet style bungalow). I’m guessing windows / kitchen / bathroom / electrics / flooring etc is going to add another 50k.

Much more than this though and I suspect it may not be worth it but will also need to speak to estate agent first.

For 70 miles a day I’d much rather be in a car than a van. Whichever way you look at it, a car will be more refined, quieter, may be cheaper to run and more likely be comfier.
    this.

    and I own a T5.

Swansea sea front and up through Clyne are both good. However if you are up early enough to avoid the traffic then the whole of the gower is a fantastic place to cycle.

I’ve just come back from Austria – where e-bikes are already popular. A shop there said that for the first time this year they have sold as many e-bikes as conventional bikes. The rate of improvement in e-bikes is huge and the costs will invariably come down.

A virtually free unconstrained uplift service will be a guilty pleasure. There will inevitably access issues which will be virtually impossible to police.

A little smaller than Cardiff, obviously, but Swansea is great. Gower on doorstep, great beaches and good riding (road) and with trail centres and natural stuff pretty nearby. I’d hate to move back to Cardiff now. Fairly bereft of culture though if that’s your bag.

There was a program a while ago which followed nature lovers. One was a guy who had loads of cctv in his garden – one of which he had in a bird box. Anyway several chicks all died when a moggy put his paw in the box and pulled them all out. Multiply this by, and if this thread is anything to go by, the many many thousands of cats hunting birds then is it any wonder why so many garden birds are in decline. Chris Packham has it right too many cats

What would be the benefit to the world, of me becoming religious?

Not a lot really – better you spent that religion time working for a charity.

If its muddy then wellies are better than walking boots, its not the waterproofness but the weight of the mud that tends to stick to them.

I’d watch the early redemption fee even if leaving a small amount on the mortgage.

I have an early redemption fee on my mortgage – if I paid off 90% of the mortgage I’d have to pay 90% of the early redemption fee. When I was researching mortgages (a year ago) this is how they all worked.

Swansea – some good riding near city centre, close to Afan / Brecons / Brechfa etc. Can surf before/after work. Don’t expect a particularly cultural experience though.

West Swansea – close to good riding, fairly affluent area (mumbles, langland and gower) and superb beaches. I used to live in the ‘diff but nmuch prefer Swansea for the Gower.

I went up there a couple of months ago. The track is closed but I went over the locked gate (didn’t know it was meant to be closed before I set off). When you get to the descent before the turn into the valley the track is quite washed away – had to walk a bit. It seemed a tad dangerous as the track seemed to overhang a stream which had formed some way below the track. Don’t know about the forestry exit though.

I’d go for a Renault Zoe if you are just using it for commuting – 150 quid down payment and 195 quid per month on a 2 yr rental deal.

Its electric if you didn’t already know.

I ordered a wheel off them on Black Friday – had an email that day saying dispatched. When I hadn’t received it by the following thursday I phoned them up. Apparently that email saying ‘dispatched’ was an internal message. They were pretty helpful on the phone and my stuff was sent the next day.

They said they were really busy at the moment building wheels etc.

Is mumsnet really full of “barbour wearing toffs” as mentioned before. If so then they know how to create a really good cycling thread without it going down the Daily Hate route.

Funny you should say that – mine started doing exactly the same on Monday (made for an interesting commute home with my tiny backup light) – tried with different batteries etc beam just comes on momentarily when button pressed.Think I bought it in 2011.

Tempted to email Hope and see what the fix is.
