I have the gen 1 and have had it since 2018

Been very good – ideal for chucking the kids on the back and taking them to school / beach. Popping to shops. Going to pub etc.

Even squeeze 3 in on occasion.

    Haven’t had issues with it.

Both myself and partner can use it (6’4” and 5’8”).

I already have a serious hankering for a Tern GSD and this isn’t helping.

I’ve had one a few years now. Absolutely brilliant for karting me and the kids around. Use it on a daily basis at least once.

We have a spring free one. It’s good to bounce on and ‘safer’ than most.

It was pricey, but cheaper than a bike and gets used a lot more. Bearing in mind we’ll have this for 10 yrs + didn’t mind spending the extra.

    I’ve got a T6 (ex demo model):

What I’ve got what I would go for again:

    Adaptive cruise,
    DSG,
    Power tailgate,
    Soft latch side doors
Apple car play (although it needs a wired connection in mine which is annoying)
    Window in tail gate

Stuff I’ve got which I could live without
    LED lights
    Heated seats
    Larger fuel tank
2+1 – would probably just prefer a 3 seater – you can then put more under the seats
    200bhp – canes the fuel

    Things I wish I had:
2 REAR SLIDING DOORS. 1 is a real pain with 3 kids.

Most golf courses really busy at the mo. Tried to book one the other week (booking a week in advance) for a Friday and all the decent ones within a 50 mile radius were chocker. Sat/Sun totally sold out.

My old club has a very active junior section and now has a waiting list to join.

Because there is an element of insulation from the neoprene…. But it’s not the main insulator.

The aim for a wetsuit manufacturer is to completely eliminate water entry to the suit whilst maintaining weight, comfort and flexibility of the suit. The neoprene is the insulator, the thin layer of water trapped between suit and body is an just an additional thing which needs to be kept warm and prevented from being recycled.

If this were achievable (and it appears they’ve managed it in the bulkier diving neoprene suit market as Greybeard says) then they’d still be known as wetsuits for historical reasons.

What? So you fall, off, get your wetsuit out of the bag and slip it on? Am I missing something?

No – you fall off, you’re cold you paddle the short distance to shore and put your wetsuit on as your backup clothing. Obviously if you are paddling further from the lake shore you need to weigh up the risk of falling in and getting back wet OK.

A wetsuit relies mostly upon a layer of water that your body then heats up – so, unless you fall in first, a wetsuit is not that great.

It relies on the air bubbles within the neoprene. Modern wetsuits let in very little water.

On a lake with little chance of falling and I was staying close to shore off I’d wear normal clothes in winter, but I’d also pack a wetsuit in a dry bag just incase I did fall off.

On the sea it depends on how warm the day is and how far I go but I’ll wear either a 3/2 or 4/3 and woolly hat if really cold.

    If it’s surfing then I’ll wear a 4/3.

I use a microsoft ergo 4000 with my mac. (Coincidentally just had to order a new one (same model) today after about 10 years of service). I find the magic keyboard really uncomfortable to type on.

It’s wired but I also use a wired ergonomic mouse and external monitor so have a usb-c hub (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VK2R4ST/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item)

The keyboard itself is quite loud but very comfortable.

Once the VW ID is out, and proven, that’ll be it pretty much for them..

Actually the ID.3 seems to be driving Tesla 3 sales right now.

    https://www.speakev.com/threads/canceling-id-3-reservation.142141/

I think people underestimate the Tesla – this is from the cancelling id3 thread.

After much deliberation and sitting with my ID 3 deposit sat with VW and lack of updates, especially about price – I broke ranks and took a test drive in a model 3 on Friday.

A friend has had his model S for 3 years and it is an epic drive. I thought the model 3 would not be any where near as nice to drive. Well I walked into the Tesla showroom, no hard pressure sales. I just asked if I could see inside a standard range +, the guy opened one up in the car park from his mobile and said fill your boots. When I went back in he asked me what I thought. Surprisingly the quality and finish of the car both inside and outside is very good; not far away from my recent S5. 5 minutes later after handing my license over he handed me the cars card (owners just need a paired mobile phone in their pocket) and said off you go take as long as you want. The autonomy and the acceleration of the standard car is fantastic.

Needless to say I have now cancelled my ID 3 order and ordered a M3. Ok, the M3 is potentially going to be slightly more expensive, but it is still sub 40k. However the tech on the simple 15″ screen and the panoramic roof sold it for me, which the ID 3 1st will not have.

It was a tough decision as I have been in VW and Audis for years, but Tesla really have made a great car.

They are not perfect by any means, but they are doing a lot of things that traditional manufacturers had totally missed.

What they’ve done in such a short space of time is remarkable. Dyson seem to have tried and failed. The rest are playing catchup which they will eventually. As to whether they will be able to offer better value than Tesla at that price point and offer better charging infrastructure is another story.

If it’s any consolation they are looking into the wiper issues:

    https://electrek.co/2019/10/14/tesla-deep-rain-neural-net-automatic-wipers/
Bit of overkill you could say – an infrared sensor sounds a lot simpler.

I have the performance version – bought through limited company.

Its a very good car, great fun to drive. The reviews generally echo what the car is like.

I’d agree that it’s not the best looking car out there but it is fairly inconspicuous. Build quality seems good enough on mine.

Main downside is that the auto wipers are pretty cack.

I’d recommend a test drive – all the people who have been in mine have been pretty impressed with it.

Oh and the stereo is great as well.

    I’ve had a Model S for a while now

Test drove a 75D about 18 months ago. Really really liked it but the model 3 just feels tighter and more nimble. Interesting to see which you prefer to drive.

The Jaguar was fairly plush. High up. ‘chunky’-feeling. But so many buttons and switches and stuff all over the place in the cabin!

Agreed, I’m really used to the screen now – love the minimalism of the 3. All those buttons and dials feels OTT, guess that’s the advantage when you can design a car from a clean sheet.

what happens if you run out of power due to not being able to charge for whatever reason will a breakdown service tow/take you to the nearest charger?

AFAIK Tesla service allow you to do this once and will tow you to a charger. However if the 12Volt battery goes as well then it’s a bit more serious. I’m not sure how often people do run out of juice but can’t imagine it’s that frequent.

As far as the user experience goes, you have to assume you will be without your car for a day while it’s being serviced

I’m not sure they still exist but I believe Tesla, or at least used to, have a ‘ranger’ service where they come out to you to do small service items.

Does anyone else on here have a model 3.

I have had the performance version since early August.

The car is incredible – I don’t have much to compare it to though as I haven’t owned other nice cars. (Used to have a 525D BMW touring which was good but nothing compared to this). Very easy to drive, great in traffic but also a lot of fun on the open road. Love the minimalist interior, screen gives me all I need and is easy to use. Stereo is great, nippy and nimble. I could go on …

I’ve only used a super charger once and that was painless. Other than that I just charge at home. Waiting for a charger to be installed at home but currently charge at 10 miles per hour off a 3 pin which is currently fine for my requirements.

All the reviews I’ve seen rate the model 3 handling. Different to an ICE but IIRC it was quicker around the top gear track than a BMW M3.

Someone from the Tesla model 3 facebook group claimed to have bumped into the top gear boys at a hotel while they were filming in the area. They thought the car was amazing but had some concerns with the build quality and owing to the new found popularity also the availability of Super charging points.

I test drove an i3 a couple of years ago – loved it. Put an order in for the model 3 a few weeks ago, hopefully should be here in a month or two. By all accounts it should be rather good.

I’m 6’4” with about a 34 inseam. Tern GSD fits fine. Partner is 5’7” – fine for her as well. Don’t find the front end skittish and I’ve been down some fairly fast hills on it. Occasionally if cycling no handed the handlebars resonate a bit but the lightest touch on them sorts this.

It’s a comfortable upright riding position – I ride it 10 miles each way to work and I go the same speed as other ebikes, probably with a similar level of comfort.

I have the Tern GSD – regularly take 2 kids on it to school (5 and 3) and then commute 10 miles on from there. I have the running boards, child seat and cushion as well as the panniers.
It’s amazing, loads of fun and negates the need for a 2nd car. Its used all the time from popping to the shops, going to the pub (and taking mates home on it afterwards), going to the beach (with kids) etc. Another advantage is, because its so adjustable my wife rides it as well.

Amazon Web services – not the store but the tech of cloud computing.

The rate of progression of AWS in particular is pretty impressive. This is the tech upon which increasingly large amounts of other tech is being built.

Your setup sounds almost identical to mine – ie integral garage, sectional insulated door.

I have a towel radiator in there which runs off the heating (same circuit as the upstairs and rads downstairs). Works well and good for drying bike stuff / wetsuits etc.
(the garage also has insulation in walls and under the floor and as its integral also quite nice not to have a freezing cold room attached to the house).

Must say if its warm enough not to have the heating on at all then haven’t really needed to have the rad on in the garage.

    I was recently quoted 8.5k for 120sq m.

Currently tarmac, parts of which have been dug up so there was a fair amount of prep work involved.

They look awesome but 8.5k is a bit rich for me.

My daughter learned to ride last night! What a great moment.

She’s on a isla cnoc 14 large. Daddy don’t hold on and off she went and after a few runs seemed to have the start nailed and could grab a handful of brake at random moments, no face plants yet. She had a balance bike at 2 and is was 3 last month.

Balance bike is the route to go – I vaguely remember being on stabilisers for ages.

I’m about to install Velfac (swedish) windows in my house. Aluminium on the outside which you can have in any colour.

They are triple glazed which should improve noise insulation.

In the end weren’t much more than yer average white upvc jobbies.

3 foot dawn glass at a reef with just me and my mate out this morning doing the most difficult sport which I’ll never get close to mastering. I love days at BPW and all that but I’d be gutted if I was booked in on an uplift day today.

Thanks for the replies. Its an incredibly frustrating piece of legislation whereby it seems, in this case at least, that it can be used as a tool to frustrate the build process if the adjoining owner so wishes.

Thus far my contractors / designer and structural engineer can’t believe the costs and hassle that this is causing.

Kids will have a great time – Its a pretty safe festival with a good vibe. Not too packed and easy to get around – particularly if dry (fingers crossed). I’ve stewarded a few times. The kids may well hook up with others of a similar age and you won’t see them again.

Personally I normally head to Chai Wallahs for a bit more upbeat music.

Surroundings are stunning, keep meaning to take a hardtail for a bit of an excursion in the morning. I’d leave it in the van over the course of the festival. However with 2 young ‘uns that ain’t going to happen any time soon.

Take plenty of cash – the food is great but soon adds up. The real ales are pretty good as well.

Cheers – have SE looking into it now. Extra 10k wouldn’t be worth it. May be worth asking if the pier can protrude externally a bit to lessen internal impact.

Foundations have gone in pretty much so as they say – don’t change the design once you’re going 🙂

The vertical steel – how deep is that buried in the foundation?

Had a word with the lads today. Transpires that he threw a brick which hit the mini JCB – overarm so it wasn’t a soft lob. Driver got pretty verbally angry by all accounts and neighbour claimed he picked up another brick in “self defence”. The boys got him on film holding the brick whilst also giving the neighbour some verbals. They say they’ve never seen anyone like this before ….

Anyway neighbour already reported (without me knowing) it this morning when I told him that throwing bricks around isn’t acceptable.

I reported it to the police who have had a telephone convo with the neighbour so that is enough. Its on record so hopefully he’ll bit more circumspect next time he decides to be a pillock.

The police, I hope, are also going to tell him to stop filming the builders with his ipad all the time :-/

136stu – sounds sadly familiar. I’m sure the adage life’s too short wouldn’t be heard here either.

footflaps – builders are allowed to work saturday mornings around here. The party wall agreement is purely about the relevant wall (or part of wall) not to do with the works as a whole.

We have 2 party wall surveyors (we had an agreed surveyor via email but then he wanted his own – actually he wanted to represent himself – when he wasn’t happy with the notices…). As part of the award we need to have a a structural surveyor write a report regarding the best way to safeguard his wall – the surveyors will then put this in a method statement – a crazy amount of overhead for a very basic structure but c’est la vie.

Ultimately though you can’t go lobbing bricks around.

    innit_gareth

spooky – the builders have been told to ignore him – it was fairly inevitable that he would try to cause problems on site – in fact the other day he forced one of the guys who was up there on his own to stop working as it was a Saturday morning and the party wall award says they can only work Mon-Fri. The only thing was he was doing nothing to do with the party wall.

I’m guessing that he probably pushed them too far hence they told him to bog off and he lost it.

These guys are, I think subbies to the main contractor who I think is responsible for the H&S.

CCTV is a good idea. Sadly a day too late …

FWIW the wall that is being protected is a pretty crappy garden wall which is an L shape which then ties into the side of his house. It would probably cost about 300 quid to rebuild ….. we also have a structural engineer (part of the party wall award) going on site tomorrow to check the foundations for this wall.

Total waste of money and I’m a remainer. We’d be further to making this planet sustainable with the money spent on this space nonsense.

No money that is spent adding information to the total sum of human knowledge is ever wasted.

Knowing what the Kardashians ate for breakfast is a waste of money.

The only good thing about space travel may be when very rich people go up in virgin galactic and realise that we live on a jewel in the cosmos and then put their money, time and influence into saving that jewel.

Don’t really go up to 80 that often. When I bought it I had a pretty long motorway journey. At 80 it was OK, however I used to own a monster which was far better at those sorts of speeds.
