Putin has been very clear about rebuilding the USSR state and this revanchism is more easily delivered by ensuring EU et als eyes are pointed elsewhere – like internal political upheaval or Syrian refugees fleeing the war there…

    Just a thought.

I’m in the Belbroughton/Clent Hills area which is just north of Malvern and West of Brum. We moved here with work 8 years ago and were very firmly planning on leaving ASAP when we moved here imagining the area to be a built up urban hell. It’s absolutely not that and we are uber happy. Riding is great – Malverns 40 mins or so away, Wyre Forest, FOD and Cannock not too far away, good travel links and housing in the area is really not bad value.

I made a kitchen knife on a course with the amazingly patient Joel Black. 121 folds of steel with an integral bolster. Hard work and it was much harder than the last knife I made which didn’t have a bolster. I’m really happy with it though!

I’ve replaced mine with C Bear ones to stop the press fit creak. They are a bit more money but definitely worth it in my mind.

I would very strongly suggest looking at Larsen Gunnable Pointing Mortar – amazing stuff and we did a 130 square metre patio with it last year. Durable and easy to work with.

I’ve had/got carbon rims from FarSports (rim brake) and Light Bicycle (disc) and they’ve been absolutely fine. The rim brake ones were replaced by some Reynolds ones just because and for no good reason and I can honestly say the Reynolds ones were not significantly better.

Funnily enough we bought a second (third/fourth) hand Countryman the other week. It was replacing a little Alfa Mito and is used as a second car for when I don’t cycle to work etc. Our 2 kids are getting bigger and the 3 door Alfa was getting tight (and at 1.4l was rather asthmatic). We bought a used Cooper S All4 version and its good fun. We had a Mini One Cooper a while ago and this feels a bit like that in terms of the shorter wheelbase relative to size of car and the engine pick up. Short gear throws and a ‘tight’ clutch vs the Alfa and the interior quality is much nicer. It has a Mini version of the BM iDrive which is simple to use. Eats a bit more fuel but thats expected and I like the look of the thing – the inflated Mini works to my eyes.

I can’t comment re washers but if you Google thebiketube lacing a 32 spoke wheel the video is fantastically good. Chap uses 3 cross whichnus basically the bomb proof method but it was also useful for a 24h 2 cross wheelset I built.

Lewin or Tyrwhitt are good options. If also look at the Oliver Brown sale there are some nice suits at 245. Only comment is that their jackets tend to be quite long.

Lovely route from Pollensa through Caimari up Col Sa Batalla and back down Sa Femina. One of my favourites using the little roads out of Pollensa to Caimari.

Also a loop up Sa Batalla then across to Alaro up Orient and up the south climb of Soller before heading back across past the little road to Sa Calobra, and back to Pollensa down Femina is a great ride.

I’d echo the Andradx comment, the ride through Deia to Andradx is great

OP: I’m a consultant Radiologist specialising in the Head and Neck at a busy referral centre in the UK so I see a lot of cases like you in my ultrasound lists.

The vast majority of people turn out to have benign reactive lymph nodes – responding to some form of infection (tonsils, ears, flu/upper respiratory, skin (beards/ingrowing hairs) are common culprits). These sort of prominent lymph nodes (medical term is lymphadenopathy) are appropriate bodily responses to infections. Also as another poster said above, by the time they get to have an ultrasound, many have resolved (and I still tell my patients that they are doing the right thing in having me scan them).

A small proportion turn out to have over causes – unusual infections, not lymph nodes but cysts or small fatty growths for example, or cancers. The latter do occur and the nature is entirely variable depending on age, medical, family and social history (for example they were more common in heavy drinkers and/or smokers and are now more associated with some type of human papilloma virus infections). Although a small proportion, these cases want catching earlier rather than later and therefore I strongly urge you to see your GP. This is, statistically, likely to be nothing but everyone has differing risk factors which cannot be assessed over the internet and so please do go see your GP. If you end up seeing one of my colleagues in the UK or even me then (even if the lump has gone by then) you are doing the right thing.

I dont want to give this thread too much bump nor the original troll oxygen but I also want to make the observation that statins effects appear to extend beyond simple cholesterol reduction and do have actions on arterial plaque, acting to stabilise them so further reducing cardiac risk.

Also as has been said above if you do have side effects then doses and statins can be changed. Specific lipid clinics exist where GPs need further assistance for patients.

Co-enzyme Q10 may help some with muscle aches but is a little contentious.

    Thats me done.

When docs are little more than well-intentioned, legalised dealers these days

Possibly one of the most offensive things I’ve heard in a while.

BTW my Pops ignored his (and my – I’m a doc if you’ve not guessed from the above) docs advuce about statins for his high cholesterol for any number of reasons he could find. He had a massive heart atrack 3 months ago with 2 of his 3 main coronary arteries blocked off when an unstable plaque ruptured. He’s exceedingly lucky to still be alive. Oh, and hes taking statins. And several other drugs now too as a result of the acute event and the stents they had to put in him.

I have a set of lightbicycle rims on my Domane – 46mm deep, 28 wide external and 21 internal, on Novatec hubs. I’ve had them a year and a bit and am very happy with them. My summer bike has Reynolds Assaults and the only difference is that the lightbicycle rims are much much much easier to mount and unmount tubeless tyres on. I have had a set of the LB rims on my Nicolai for years with no exploding splinter death.

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun,
And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand to seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

    – my condolences Northwind.

I’m starting to think about whether I should contact a private hospital to pay for scans for peace of mind.

Please think long and had before you do this:

Heart specific CT: A coronary calcium score (from CT) is only so accurate and a Coronary CT angiogram is still a relatively new test which is developing its place in cardiac disease management.

Whole body CT: These are advertised left right and centre. The real problem is what you do about the incidental findings. eg. You have the CT and it shows a nodule in your thyroid. You then are sent for an ultrasound scan of that and that leads to a needle sampling to diagnose. You then have a high chance of either having a non-diagnostic test or indeterminate result that leads to a hemithyroidectomy (which has not insignificant risks). All for an incidental finding. Or the CT reveals a lung nodule which then means an interval CT chest in 3 months and then at a year. Assuming no other nodules are seen on the 3 month interval scan which would then restart the clock as it were. And so on and so forth for the rest of the body. You risk putting yourself through so much downstream investigation and anxiety with these with a potential morbidity of their own. For example, in the last 10-15 years with thyroids alone the diagnosis rate of thyroid cancer has gone through the roof with an exponential increase in diagnoses but no change in the mortality rate from thyroid cancer – as on the whole 1. thyroid cancer doesn’t often kill and 2. the ones that do, occur and progress fast so that by diagnosis they tend to be advanced and are therefore unlucky to be seen at a random ‘just in case’ type image.

P-Jay – my Pops had a heart attack last week and is going through alot of what you are at the moment. My thoughts are with you – take it easy and listen to your cardiologist. You will need cardiac rehab (supervised graduated exercise) but things should get better. The only people who can give you a true idea of to what extent will be your cardiac team as they are the ones who will have seen your ECGs, your cardiac enzyme changes, coronary angiogram(s), echocardiograms and stress tests (amongst the gamut of other tests). Please seek and listen to their advice.

    My very best,

    infidel.

    I’m a radiologist BTW

I’ve had a few pairs of Edwins. Ed47 for me and I like them. They’ve held up rwlly well although I do eventually end up going through at the knee.
    Others I’ve had:
Nudie – almost always blown the crotch
    Unbranded – nice jeans
Gustin – not bad but they have terrible sizing issues. I’ve had a pair arrive that were 4 inches too small at the waist!
Howies – OK but I’m not a fan of their cuts.
7 for all mankind – OK but thin denim usually, tend to be prewashed which I don’t like. Often not selvedge and overpriced.
Paper Denim Cloth – used to love these but cannot find them anymore.
Albam – not bad and subtle branding

    Can’t remember any more!

Ive got a Domane SLR disc. I run the Bontrager mud guards on it no problem. There is a little angle-fangeled bit that helps fix the front non-drive side arm to the fork. I take the guards off over the summer but leave that on for convenience. Currently running 28s with wide rims and there is plenty of room. I have no idea why the bike shop say they won’t fit.
