No real point in putting a K&N on a normal road car when the filter is designed to supply enough air for the horse power it produces as standard.

If on the other hand it has a high lift cam, twin 45's DCOE's a decent gas flowed head and a good exhaust system then the sound is nothing short of magical!

I got the 719's disc with xt hubs from merlin, no complaints not much heavier than 717's and they will hold a 2.3 much better than the 717's I had on my old giant.

Bought some folding 2.0's non lust from merlin last year £14 pound each. Good tyre but I would of liked to try a pair of 2.3's but couldn't find any at a reasonable price.

If there is only one cookbook you ever buy make sure its Hugh's Meat one. The chilli is to die for. Goes off to see if there is any mince in the fridge!

Could be the radiator expanding when its hot and leaking coolant from a split. Coolant then evaporates off hot radiator making detection difficult. Radiator then seals up when its cold. How much are you losing? P.s. That undertray was the first thing to go on my Golf, what a pain!

There is a BMX track next to Belmont Community Centre opposite Elvet BMW. Hamsterly is the best bet but its a good 40mins by car from Durham City.

Another problem with the K series is the fact that it states in the service schedule that you must replace the coolant regularly. This is to stop corrosion between the liner and the engine block, loosening the liner and causing failure to the gasket when it moves. Every service Rover and subsequently other garages did, not one of them changed the coolant when it should have been done, hardly the engines fault. This engine when it was made was the most fuel efficient, torquey, powerful motor you could get. Shame it was let down by cost cutting for the sake of two plastic dowels. This is why we don't make cars anymore!

    Rant Over. ( I still would have a 200vi, great Q car)

Head off job, skim head, new gasket set includes new stretch bolts, thicker gasket etc etc. Change oil and flush and clean block head. Cost me £400 by a rover specialist who had done this job many times. 1.8 engine prone to this. Plastic pins hold the original gasket in place. These soften and move with time allowing the gasket to move, hence failure. Do it sooner than later, if the head fails and the engine overheats its a much bigger job. This engine holds very little spare water, once it goes its difficult to catch before any damage is done. Great cars though and the engine is superb once the plastic pins are replaced in the kit with steel ones!

Never ceases to amaze me how Ebay is often more expensive for something secondhand than brand new from Original stockist! Never bought anything from Ebay and never will. Paypal security sucks and descriptions and products are so often dodgy ie stolen.

Go for the 456 from On One direct, great service and backup, great Bike. I have a 20' frame 6ft 4' does everything I want it to do and more. It's a better bike than I am a rider.

It's not my bike so I'll leave the cups alone if they are OK. Nothing to lose by swapping the races over and regreasing. I don't think the headset itself is that expensive so if they are shot can always replace bearings or replace headset.

    Cheers for the Advice.

It doesn't matter, the country is stuffed. Our kids will be paying off this debt when we are long gone. Whoever gets in will slash public services and public sector jobs. It's the private sector that will get us out of this mess but its going to take some time. The Unions are going to go mental when the scale of the job losses are known after the election. 2010 will be the summer of discontent.
On a lighter note Lidl's does a cracking cappacino ice cream at the moment, that I am enjoying after a little 20 mile trip around the North Durham Dales.

Old shape Focus Estate 1.6 petrol. Cheap parts, ok mpg, and will out handle most cars out there. You'll still find some one out there to buy it when you want to get shot.

Our lab would run until she collapsed or found some food. Not many dogs designed to run at bike pace for 3 hrs. Trail hounds only run for about 10 miles or 45mins when in competition and they are super fit.

On the Vauxhall it was the tensioner that failed taking the belt out at the same time. On my Focus, Ford state every 100K or ten years witch ever comes first. Its now got 88k on it, going to change it on 90k.

Good general purpose tyre. Have used the 2.3's for a while now. Not the widest 2.3 around but quite large diameter. Not to draggy, changed from nevegals to these and noticed a big increase in efficiency with no drop in grip. As with any tyre be careful with shale!

Anything Japanese. Corolla's are very reliable but bland. 1.6 goes like stink. Nissan's are Renault's in disguise.

You could hacksaw through that crack install a fork with headset etc and it still wouldn't fail. Might flex and move slightly but it wont fail catastrophically. You'd have to use a 10 tonne press to move the fork out of there. 10 yrs not a bad return on an ally frame. Jubilee clip will hold it no problem or get a split bush made like a OS bar clamp from local machine shop. There's life in the old girl yet!

My wife's boss has one and its been the most unreliable car she has ever owned and that includes several French cars. Very expensive to fix because a lot of local garages don't want to touch them, so main dealer only. Ouch!

As a landrover nut with years of hassle behind me, don't do it if its your only car. If its your weekend plaything with the bikes then go for it! Sold my scudo JTD van and bought a car, boy do I miss the van for bike duties. The car will have to go, cant be bothered with racks and all that crap!

You'd be better off going further inland and heading over to Edmundbyers and Blanchland common, plenty of routes and rides from 10 to 25 miles of fantastic moorland single track. MBR and WMB have listed most of the routes over there!

If it was my XTR Crankset and there wasn't enough material to re-thread I would get a threaded insert made to whatever size would fit and thread lock it in and then fit pedal. Say 20mm by 1.25 or 1.5 pitch external thread. Got to be worth a try.
