Stress is a major factor for dogs as well as changing their food regularly. Look online pick a reputable brand with the correct protein level for the breed of dog you have and stick with it. Variety is not the spice of life when it comes to pet food. Differing levels of bacteria in different brands of food cause upset tummies. It’s taken 3 months for our rescue greyhound to settle down and his poo’s are still runny sometimes. Dogs need a good firm poo to keep there anal glands in trim. Keep the treats to a minimum.

Poor fuel economy really, Hora gets 40mpg at a steady 80mph out of his, but I think that’s the much more economical 2.0L.
They are great cars till they go wrong then you have to sell a kidney to fix em.

A mate a few years ago Had a mate that had a Lancia Delta Integrale, the fast turbocharged 4WD LHD one. While being a passenger he said “you know the indicator stalks are made of cheese the dash is plasticky, the trim appalling tat, it costs a small fortune to keep on the road but you can overtake something when you can see the whites of the eyes of the driver coming toward you on the opposite side” and with that he overtook about 10 cars slamming us back into the seat. What a car that was! I guess you just have to like fast cars.

It sounds cruel but it works. A small water pistol. Catch him doing it and hit him in the face. Cats hate water and hate getting wet. It works for us. We lost our lab last year and the neighbour’s cat a big ba$t*rd started fighting with ours over territory. Our cat started spraying like a hydrant. We then got a rescue greyhound and that sorted that out. The neighbour’s cat only ever came into our garden once and only just made it out. He got an even bigger shock when the dog cleared a six foot fence and chased him into his own house. Oscar quite likes having his own attack greyhound.

Needs a cam belt at that age and milage. 150 to 250 pounds for that. Probably a few other minor things to sort out. Our Company cars are 1.6 carisma’s with 150k on some of them. Seats are hard and the suspension is nothing special but they do just go on and on.

There are a lot of good suggestions on here unless you are a farmer and you need a Defender and have a garage full of spares like I do, stay well clear of anything with a Landrover badge on it or you will have a world of pain keeping it on the road. They are fantastic for 4×4 offroad trials but utterly hopeless on the road for everyday use. You have been warned. Ignore all those who have them as company cars etc because they don’t have to pay for the repairs and they usually get shot after three years. They hate admitting they’ve bought a pile of junk. Anything Japanese should be fine.

Look at the last placed manufacturer YEP its Landrover!

Disco’s are just about the most unreliable 4×4 ever made, dont know what the later ones are like. Try this site for some info on models. Common probs often come up and their are plenty of owners from Oz and NZ on here.

The problem as I see it is that the standard economic cycle is screwed up! You need two terms with the Tories to get the Economy back on its feet and then one term of Labour to spend everything that has been saved. Then the Tories are supposed to get back in to sort everything out again and this was messed up when Labour won a second and third term. It’s all about balance.

317 is about 50g heavier is made from a heavier alloy 6061 as opposed to maxtal alloy and the welding and jointing is stronger on the xc717 rims called SUP.

Nissan X Trail. Better off road than the CRV and Rav4 still handles well and is comfy on road. If you need more off road capability than this then really your looking for a Landcruiser. Not being funny but something diesel with a modified air intake to avoid water ingress may be an idea if the rain keeps falling. Are you anywhere near the flooded area’s?

If its dual mass which I think it is for the 130 then the clutch and flywheel assembly are all one unit. You can now buy a conversion kit that uses a normal flywheel and a replaceable clutch kit, but that is only worth it if you envisage keeping the car long enough to change the clutch again. The cost of the separate flywheel bumps it up.

No sorry, Ford never put the 1.8TDCI engine in a Mondeo only a 2.0 or a 2.2, check Parker’s if you want. They did put the old 1.8td engine in the previous model up to 2000. So you are either confused about the model or its a bodge job from a Focus. Is it the new shape one cos they have that engine in.

Jeeesusss! The only way to calculate MPG is to calculate how much fuel you put in the car and then use your sat nav to calculate the actual milage that you have done. Then repeat this over the year summer to winter and calculate the average. Glancing at the on-board computer when your freewheeling downhill is fooling nobody. My wife who does a genuine mix of urban and motorway miles in her albeit still fairly new swift 1.3 diesel can just about average 50-52 mpg. When I work it out properly its about 46mpg. Speedo’s always read high and ergo the on-board MPG figures do as well.

Go for the 719’s if you can. My 2.3 conti’s squirmed all over on my Xc717’s and they are a narrow 2.3 if you know what I mean. Got a pair of xm719’s with XT hubs cheap from Merlin. Much better and not much heavier.

We had 6000L’s stolen over a weekend from our outdoor steel tank at work. They even smashed the wall of the catch tank so they could cut the outlet pipe off at the base and get out every drop. We now have a smaller tank inside the factory. These Tw*ts will nick anything. Security lights and a remote camera would be a good start. They will more than likely come back once you have refilled it. They did with ours. We learned the hard way.

Wife works for NHS I work in the manufacturing sector. I’m not being flippant either. I think these people are blinkered that’s the point. There are some highly talented people and some incompetent people in both sectors but I think the whole transferable skills thing is just tosh. I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

Just to stoke the fires a bit more, how many managers of private companies are rubbing their hands with glee that they will soon be able to pick up cheaply, some highly trained, highly motivated ex public sector staff to drive their businesses forward during this period of economic recovery?
Thought not. Not one person I know in the private sector would consider employing ex public sector staff. So it looks like unemployment will remain high for quite a while. It’s like trying to mix oil and water. It’s ideological, it is just not going to happen.

There are dogs all over the country that would give their left b*ll*ck to spend eight good years out all day in the countryside with the one they love. It’s quality time that’s important not how long they have with us. I really feel for you mate. Now go out and get another one, not to replace him cos you can’t but just to keep the other dogs company.
We lost our Choccy Lab when she was only 10. She had been used for breeding for the first 5yrs and was pretty knackered when we got her. We gave her 5 great years. We even had a spend and save card for the Vets. Wouldn’t change a thing apart from getting insurance next time. It gets easier over time. Best Wishes.

You did everything you could to try to save him. Sometimes no matter what you do it’s not enough. Go out and get another, maybe one that’s more at home with water breed wise if you live next to a river. Hindsight I know.

Lots of noise and activity during day then it goes all quiet and somebody turns all the lights out at night. I’d scream and get anxious till I got used to it. If it’s any consolation I would walk ours round the lounge until he nodded off at 3.00pm. It slowly got earlier until he went to sleep at 12 midnight and we could then have an early night, till he woke up for a feed! It gets better you’ll look back in a years time and wonder how you got through it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

You won’t find a better handling car with as much steering feel as an old shape Focus even an Estate (Front wheel drive.) Even parts from Ford are comparable with copy parts from Unipart etc. These are cheap to run especially the petrol ones. The 1.8TDCI is a great motor but diesel parts are expensive if they go wrong. I have the 1.8 petrol and its not bad, better on motorways, 5th is a good cruiser. If I had my time again I’d go for the 2.0l petrol 136bhp or the 170 ST.

My mate competes in 4×4 off-road trials and his weapon of choice is a V8 Landy.

His road car is a Shogun. Its only a matter of time before the Landy breaks down and you’re towed home by something Japanese. Gotta love that V8 sound though! The throttle doesn’t always stick.

Hora are you sure a petrol legacy can hit 40mpg at 80mph! It seems that Subaru have developed a perpetual motion device that is more efficient than a Yaris of half the weight and half the engine size of said Subaru. I thought you canna change the laws of Physics but you obviously can. What a load of B@ll@cks! (And its running an extra prop and diff etc etc.)

Probably so when they fall over, you as the car driver will have to stop and help them so you can get past, rather than leaving them to freeze to death on the pavement as you drive past in your lovely warm car!

I have all season tyres on the back of my focus estate, while not a full snow /winter tyre grip is still good and it doesn’t slide about so much. On the front in the winter I have full snow tyres, these will stay on till the end of March. Then a normal set of standard tyres will go on till the Winter. I don’t get paid if I don’t turn up for work, simple as that. After faffing about digging my self out of a hole every 100 yrd’s I bought some Winter snow tyres. The grip is fantastic, no probs at all so far. What I’m buying is a bit of piece of mind. I’m giving myself a chance that’s all. I also carry my son and wife in the car. It’s a no brainer. 100 quid fitted for two and changed over in the spring for 6 quid each.

Is that the manufacturers figure done in a controlled atmosphere in a lab or the real world on the road. I see some MPG figures bandied about that in my experience seem a tad high. The only way to accurately test the mpg on a car is over a year, logging every fill with the actual distance travelled not what the speedo says as they invariably read high. Driving normally, cold starts and a mixture of journey lengths. Not one person who I know who has tried this has got anywhere near the supposed MPG of their car. Maybe your just a really good driver
