crikey/twohats – STW has changed for me but it's 'helpful' members haven't :-)

Cheers brant, I'll have a look at feedburner – is that what alerts you everytime someone mentions a product of yours?

GrahamS – still need to actively check the reader, old email functionality was passive

There needs to be a party that has the immigration policy of Australia – entry considered if a) you have money and can support yourself for a period of time so as not to consume limited state resources, and b) you are able to demonstrate ability or education to a standard which is desirable to others.

This won’t make everyone happy but I can’t please everyone – there are too many freeloaders in this country. A quick look at The Jungle refugee camp in Calais shows that we are the soft option, and the crime that occurs around that camp proves that not all are innocent asylumn seekers. I have also worked in the centres (prisons) where those facing deportation pass their time. Many have dubious or conveniently anonymous histories.

Having said all that, I need a party who is not taking the pith with their expense claims too :(

Takes the same time as GT red for me, just maybe a few more technical rocky bits in there but some nice jumps and drop offs

You can steam it round GT on either bike and still have fun no matter what all the I’m too good for GT couch freeriders say.

If you can squeeze another 2 hrs while your Mrs reads a book then do Innerleithen too, well worth a visit, waymarked and about the same distance and grade to GT red route.

Take whichever bike isn’t out of service at the time :-)

you’re not wrong about the price increase – have you been away somewhere?!

Nope I was aware of the increase of raw materials causing £1500 bikes to increase by £100 or so but last year I’m sure I paid around £30 for an XT cassette and now they’re £54. That’s an 80% increase!

Thanks for all the advice :D

Some very good advice there. Will remember this for the next time it happens o me. Here’s the ScrewFix link…

Just remember that the number of bikes you need is

    n+1

Where n is the number of bikes you currently own.

Based on that equation you have the perfect excuse to buy a geared full susser to complement your collection. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Also, ebay has a selection ranging from £1.99 unbranded to £8.99 for SKF.

    Worth paying for SKF?

Just dug out my frame manual which has the bearing numbers in it, however they are different to the codes on the bearings themselves.

    6802 RS
    6800 2RS

What does this RS, 2RS and VRS mean?

I have the book somewhere, to be honest it’s not great, the routes are hand drawn with no maps and the instructions are lengthy.

I like my guide books to have the routes overlayed on an OS style map and that’s definately a big issue here.

Besides, I’ve been twice (with the book) and not used it once, it’s so easy to find trails there.

Perhaps you’ll have more luck with the GPS.

Kona_bona buy some decent pads. The less u pay the less they last in my experience. Superstar=1-5 rides, EBC=several months

Never bother bedding any pads in.

Buy some EBC’s give em a go and report back in several months (hopefully!)

Are you using an On-One Doofer (the one that tensions down)?

If so then ignore anything else on this thread not related to changing your tensioner for one that tensions UP!

I had exactly your problem and tried everything to fix it, nowt worked until I tensioned UP, then problem solved…

…except after all that I decided I prefered gears.

At least I am now qualified to offer advice on the matter!

If you still have the same problem with an upwards tensioner then start listening to the wise old men with calves of steel above.

Go to bed (since you need to be on your way at 4.30), stop worrying about tyres and when you wake up have a look outside.

If you’re snowed in, don’t go to work, if its ok get on your bike with any tyres and ride as carefully as you can.

Sorry I can’t offer you a constructive tyre choice but if you start worrying about what tyres to put on your bike IF it snows tonight you’ll drive yourself mental!

Wild Boar Challenge in Leeds, October. 50k of towpath and some singletrack, not technical or particularly hilly but fun, popular and it’s for charity.

The website has disappeared now but it’s run a few years on the trot now and is organised by the Rothwell District Lions

I have seen some cocklike cycling on my way home and agree that defensive riding helps but doesn’t make you invincible.

The cocklike behaviour I refer to was a hybrid cyclist who overtook me in that bravado fashion without a hello in a two wide queue of traffic (I was moving) and then tried to squeeze between a bus which was pulling out and a queuing car. Needless to say he nearly got squashed, had to stop and looked like a cock giving the rest of us a bad rep.

Sort it out if you ride like a cock.

Mines lasted just over 2 years but I have 2 bikes so a year’s worth of heavy use really. It’s been mangled in the spokes twice during that time and is certainly looking a bit the worse for wear but I can’t complain really. Doubt any other mech would have faired any better.

My god! How good is that Spotify? I’m guessing you can only listen to it while online though, but otherwise there’s so much music on there I don’t know what to search for 8O

All we need now is a film equivalent…

    How is it legal?

I didn’t – went to B&Q, fitted some window locks, reorganised my study to create a playroom for my daughter, fitted a set of blinds, cleared my bike workshop/parts bin up from the utility room, organised my tools, renewed my house insurance and fitted some outside lights. Amazed how productive I can be when not on my bike!

Download Picasa, it’s superb, I find it miles easier to use than Flickr. Searches your hard drive for photos, organises them for you and when you want to upload one, select the picture and click upload.

Mine on constant since the cold spell began too. Latest bill from nPower, £137 per month! We are 2 adults and a toddler in a 4 bed semi. The washing machine never stops, we have showers, daughter has a bath and we use the dishwasher every other day. We have cavity wall insulation, a combi boiler, double glazing, energy efficient bulbs everywhere, suspect the loft insulation needs urgent attention. Cost sounds high to me.

Hmmm, love the sound of hot, humid and monsoon (yes, really) but think it’s not the right place to take a 2yr old. Don’t like the idea of

“Malaria, Dysentery and tropical diseases… might not have immediate access to the right kind of medical care”

    Now looking at Tunisia…

Real motivation for a slightly more unusual destination is avoiding the Euro zone this summer (apart from mtb holiday of course…)
