don’t start a conversation about whose bikes would be better for the child seat.

“Shorter stem will speed up the steering and move your centre of mass further forward”

Speed up steering I get, if only from personal experience, but surely a shorter stem (if anything) moves weight back slightly. Have I missed something?

You could wreck a top tube that way – they’re not designed for loads in that direction.

Just remember that if it works out, riding with the other half threads develop over the years into child seat threads, tag-along threads and Islabike threads…

I should know (and I love it)

It is sensitive to rear shock set up (particularly for pedalling), ring choice afffects pedaling response and mine was never right with the Float 130s on it – Pikes solved the problem and also allowed front end "lock out".

The 456 I have probbaly climbs faster / needs less input but the 5 out climbed the Heckler I tested it against.

In terms of tyres Nevagal front and Small Block 8 rear works as a good compromise of grip and weight I find.

It’s not unknown for this sort of stuff to be spec’d on the old european voltage stabdard (230 +/-6%) rather than either the old UK spec (240 +/-6%) or the new pan-european including the UK spec (230 +10%/-6%). When they changed the standard they changed it in such a way that we in the electricity companies didn’t need to do anything, old equipment would still work but equipment suppliers had to increase the tolerance that their kit would work over. If they didn’t then someties things fail.

That said I am assuming there is a decent regulated power supply in most chargers (they’re pretty cheap) and it would surprise me if one I bought failed.

So maybe it was just a duff one – contact the seller and see if they’ll honour whatever king of warranty a Hong Kong internet seller provides.

The suspension character of a 5 changes between big, middle and granny ring too. Middle ring s the most supple on my set up but granny can had stop pedal induced bob and pssibly therefore pedal strike.

    Smooth action also helps

So for the innocents what is scientology?

My name is Earl just has me rolling about in stiches laughing, partly due to its brilliant jokes and partly due to its absurdity and partly (having lived there briefly) because it takes the piss out of small town America (albeit in a very sympathetic way)

Coffeeking – if I recollect, and it is a long time ago, it’s not just the resistemce that changes. One of the professors used water in TV aerials as an example in my junior honours year. Though I agree with your comment on the heat required for the change of state – why those blue ice packs work don’t ya know.

    chriswilk,

THe LOCT is excellent – I have one and my son loves it (be prepared for squeals of laughter).

But from another post your child is around one – the LOCT is not really an option at that age.

    Once they’re 2 to 2 1/2 though…

Could be. It was the local line from the BT exchange that did for mine. Water in one of the joints I think. If it’s better in cold (I mean sub zero) weather then water in the cable may well be causing attenuation of the signal – ice causes far less attenuation (which is why bits of your frozen dinner boil in the microwave before other bits have melted – if you care)

Guys, As a number of previous threads on here will show there is no problem fitting a rack to most disc brake equipped bikes (don’t know about adaptor based ones). I ran a CoPilot Limo & Blackburn rack on a 456 – some fettling but simple 10 minute stuff (Ok hacksaw content – but not much). And I would recommend disc brakes font and back once you, the rack/seat and your child are on the bike – ‘cos the weight is high for a v-brake to stop (you will add over 2st to the bike, maybe more) and you suddenly develop a real interest in controlled stopping.

Second hand CoPilot and a new Inbred or 456 frame might be a value for money option if the Hamax ones are only available new.

Hill walking in England was too tame. I used to enjoy two or three days plus carrying everything, camping where you stopped type walking. Yorkshire is too full of tea shops and pubs for that.

Somehow doing it on a bike works

Three of them are essentially the same car and the A4 isn’t that diffent, so pick a badge, what toys you want and an engine. My wife had two A4s. The first one fell apart but she had done 177,000 by the time it went back; second one was better.
If you want a diesel the 140 2.0 is not bad, very good on real world roads for quick safe overtakes; petrol I wouldn’t know about.
Wife is currently between company cars but the next one will be an A3 sportback.

That video is for low normal mechs – the shadow is high normal. May not make a difference but…

And from the dropouts on Peter’s picture it looks like the Shadow is meant to go on a Five – so that might be why I found it easy.

Bit much cable in Peter’s picture though – get it trimmed.

Slapped mine one without connecting the cable. Set the high and low limits – one at rest and the other by squeezing the inner and outer cable stop positions in my over sized mits. Screwed the adjusted all the way into the pod. Connected the cable with fairly minimal tension. Couple of turns on the adjuster and Bob was my uncle. Didn’t adjust the B tension screw; didn’t change the cable (did cut the cable back obviously ‘cos it needs less than a traditional Shimano mech)

So that’s probably no help at all.

Seriously though – start by getting the limit screws in the right place and everything flows from there (for me at least)

Brant – I not only used that excuse, I actually ran a Blackburn / CoPilot Limo childseat set up on my 456. All that was needed was one extra nut on the brake side rack mount as a spacer to spread the rack, plus a little hacksaw work on the hook on the bottom of the rack. Worked well, but the little one is on to a LOCT seat now.
Can I send the 456 back for a full refund as it is no longer needed for child seat duties? (Or possibly a Ti456 if you could paint one red so it doesn’t get spotted as a new frame).
My mate runs his daughter’s CoPilot on a standard Inbred (geared for child carrying of course).
