We are booked on the tunnel on the 29th July, with accommodation in southern Alps all booked last December. If restrictions allow we will go, we are fairly self sufficient, don’t eat out when away and tend to just head for quiet rivers and lakes so should be able to socially distance easily, and there’s always a risk of something happening whilst away. After seeing photos of our beaches so far this year I think I’d rather take the risk of going to France than holidaying here.

Only one bottle of gin so far but copious amounts of Thatcher’s cider and Sol lager for some reason. Of anyone wants to try a new gin just search Wicked wolf it is amazing, distilled just on the edge of Exmoor. Probably the nicest gin ever 👍😁

I agree with that and after what has happened over the last few months I would imagine most people feel estranged from the state. I think especially the last week or so. I normally take people on face value so what been happening has definitely made me think about my future decisions.

May not have been in their Manifesto it was something that Labour chose to do so a per the rest of this thread that tarring by assocation then it would be correct to assume that you do also have blood on your hands. Although not it was the Tories that set it up, I think it was Tony Blair that massively increased the PFI in the NHS. Whether that was for different reasons or not I believe all parties have made errors but I dont believe that either side of voters actually goes out with the purpose to deliberately put others in the positions mentioned above. I maybe naive though so apologies if so

But surely that could be said for all the voters of both parties because I bet lives have been lost due to decisions from all governments.

I am not bemoaning this insults as such just saying i believe that I am not a racist or selfish or what ever else is above and that it was something you will not find me doing in retaliation to another parties supporters, just because we don’t have the same views. I am fairly open to other opinions and if I got it wrong in what I have chosen then I will admit it and can adjust to suit. I think the majority of the Uk have been wronged by both Labour and the Tories so I don’t believe slanging matches at others will help us move on.

After seeing some of the wonderful names being thrown about above I wasn’t sure whether to post but Id just thought I may as well. I have voted twice in my life so far one for remain and one for the last general election. I voted for them because I thought they would be the best party for what I saw would be good for me and my family, whether that’s correct decision who knows (doesn’t look so good at the moment). Looking at all the policies I would probably be LibDem voter but there was never a chance of them getting a majority. I didn’t vote for Labour because I am from a long line of family that are ex forces including me and wasn’t keen on Corbyns stance on the military. Also although I believe everyone should have the same chances available to them in life to achieve what they want, I don’t believe (rightly or wrongly) that it should all be on a level playing field and handed out to everybody. I think some of the policies i didn’t agree with so just went with what I felt. Whether I have made a mistake we will find out but I am happy to admit when I am wrong (current situation)and get on with it. What I will happily say is I never voted for them because I am racist, selfish or because I am rich or want to be rich as some have stated above. One thing I will say is that you will never find me calling people with different views all the names that appear above just because they have different views and ideas.

We’re only a few miles from Thatcher’s and I love most of their flavours but green goblin and old rascal are lovely

I’m not overly patriotic, but being exforces and from a forces family with people who served in the wars I will remember them today (not celebrate) because I think its nice to show a little bit of appreciation. I don’t think this makes me a racist because that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve traveled the world massively and think the UK isn’t so bad compared to some. Some of the posts above appear very bitter and angry towards the uk,I know it’s going through a rough time, but there is definitely worse places to be. Maybe I’m in a bubble in the southwest but the rasism and nationalism spoken of above I don’t really see here.

Yep, I’ve been using my bird aeris 140mm/ 160mm front for all my rides generally around 18-25miles 3 times a week around the Mendips with around 30% road. It rolls pretty well and has done my fitness wonders 😁

I had the same issue and ended up selling mine on eBay and getting a set of DVO diamond for not much more (lad was off travelling). The overall difference is amazing so far. Only real reason I swapped the two was I wanted black stanchions 🤦‍♂️.

I have an older bird aeris so am a bit biased but if I had that amount to spend Id go for thetop spec Aether 7 and bank the remaining money for a nice trip to the alps or somewhere nice with your new bird

I’m not into it personally but spent a week at a place called Domaine du Pradine in France last year during the Causse Noir Astronomie week, which was amazing the evening sky’s were amazing but also the sheer amount of enthusiasts with all their gear was a site to behold. I could have stayed forever

    What about a bird AM9?

We spent a week in northern Ardeche last summer and enjoyed it very much, didn’t venture down via pont du arc area but am led to believe it gets very busy in summer, if you prefer it quieter. I’d highly recommend the cevennes area, still has lots of high gorges and remote towns, with plenty of areas to road bike, but slightly quieter.

You can pick a Bird AM9 for £2036, if it rides anything like my Aeris you will love it

Not tried either of these but the Vitus Escarpe is £2200 and the Vitus mythique is £1600, both look very good value for money.

    Morning,

I did 6 years in the navy although on surface fleet side. Personally if its not what he wants to do then I would say no. I know people that were submariners and loved it but it is a completely different way of life even compared with surface ratings. I couldn’t ever imagine being under water for the time they go with minimal access to the outside world. Depending on size of submarine then I believe they still ‘hot bunk’. So basically sharing a pit with the opposite number of your shift. I think they are constant 12hrs on 12 hours off etc.
If he his heart is fleet air arm then stick with it. They are probably only trying to shoe horn him into Submariner due to gaps in manning. I had same call, I want to be an Artificer but was told no entry for a year or two ‘but you can do this instead and join next month. I joined the next month :-).

Worst ride so far was a couple of years ago. Planned and arranged a weekend attempt at Snowdon with a few lads. Id arranged everything and was so looking forward to it, put in that bit of extra training so as not to struggle. Anyway ride started well felt ok, got about an hour in and I just started coming down with the worst cold and cough ever. Sounded and felt horrendous, only made it as far as the start of the rangers o whilst all the lads went up for summit photos I sat shaking and coughing hoping Id have enough energy to get me down. Started descending rangers and within 500yards had a rock strike on the rim and gunk went everywhere. Wouldnt seal rim was bent :-( . Put tube in and got all way down back over to telegraph valley where I proceeded to pinch flat 5 tubes and walked the last 3-4 miles solo whilst everyone else cheered their way back to the hostel :-)

25k seems alot to me and alot more than I would spend on a short break, I’d probably use that kind of money for world trip With the kids but if it that’s what they like etc then cool 👍
We are currently on an 8 week trip around France, trip will probably (still away) come in around £7k-7.5k including 3days at Disneyland Paris and all spends etc for remaining time. That’s for a family of five
