Can’t help on place to live but I live just outside Weston and personally wouldn’t advise sending any UNI students here, it would be nothing like living the student life in the city which I assume is also part of the appeal of going to university.

Sorry have I missed something (apologies if so) but Drac is the person above posting saying that it’s your fault for outing someone with dyslexia even though you didn’t, when really you’ve been robbed of your money

Man gets scammed for his hard earned money and explains his story to his online friends with no malice etc ,but still gets told its his fault for outing a person with problems 😕, only problem I can see is theft. Not really even justifiable Drac only you mentioned the dyslexia, not that it matters

I have not long received an Aether 7 and I am finding the ride quite harsh when it gets a rough, I am coming from an Aeris with DVO diamond fork and a monarch plus RCS shock. I have just the Pike select fork and it doesn’t seem great to me. I’ll probably upgrade the damper at some point or swap the fork for another DVO. Like yourself I do fancy a coil shock, but cost will nock that back so maybe try the meg neg first. Personally I always find if I have a hankering for something then eventually it will happen, so Id advise just to get a coil shock 😁

Just use a bit of 80*80*10 rolled steel angle instead if you can get hold of some

Had mine 4 weeks ago, bit rough the day after then felt fine but had low energy levels for 2 weeks. Legs just felt empty both running an riding (I had been doing some form of daily training since january). Back to normal last week but this week all achey again. I had the Az and so did the wife she was fine

    Err.

The Mendips are also my hills. There’s rock all over the place!

Fair enough maybe there are but I haven’t ever found myself catching my chainring often on any of them previously so chose not to add one.

I have a guide but no bash guard on my Aether 7, didn’t think the muddy mendips warrant it. Although if I had cables going underneath the bottom bracket I would probably get one, I’m quite a clumsy rider.

The teacher vaccines is a strange one, my dad is helping out at the local pharmacy vaccine centre in the village and they heard last week that teachers were going to be next and then nothing since. They were chatting yesterday and reckoned that if they sent all the teachers in our area to them then it would only take a couple of days (they average around 450 a day). If you look at it like that sure it would make sense just to say to all teachers support staff etc to be done over one weekend and then crack on with the normal routine from the monday after. My wife works in a primary school and she has had her first jab already and it so have quite a few of her workmates (somerset area)

Had mine just over a week ago, sore arm for a bit and then feeling fine, but I have been struggling to get back to my fitness regime, very heavy legs and just feel empty. Feel much better today so hopeful of much better levels when I run later

I went to long ashton over Xmas with my lad, I’m not a fan of it myself but he fancied a ride there. It was horrendously busy even at 9am, don’t think we will ride there again until it the world quietens down next year to head back.

Good morning, I have been looking for a smart watch last few days and am in the budget range. I have just ordered an Amazfit Stratos 3, from the reviews I could find it appears to be 50/50 for good and bad. Will see how it goes, I only want it for running and recording rides. It can store music as well so hopefully leave the phone at home for running but still carry it for riding.

Unfortunately garmins etc are out of my price range so will see how this goes

BTW does anyone know why the daily vaccination rate starts lowest on Monday and ramps up to max out at the weekend? (Graph courtesy of travellingtabby.com)

My dad’s volunteering at a vaccination centre run by our local pharmacy, they only do Thursday-Saturday due to having to run the chemist the other days. If there’s lots of centres run like that I suppose it could be why figures are higher towards end of week

Have no idea what the obsession is with having to jet off to the Costa del Bollocks or whatever IN THE SUMMER. Winter sun, yes I get it, but the UK is great in the summer! Loads to do 👍

Not everyone that goes abroad does this, we drive to france every summer the main plus’s are I can get two weeks holiday for what I would pay for 1 week equivalent in the UK, that plus the climate the people, food and space and lakes I have got 3 weeks booked off end of july/august with nothing booked yet, I’m holding onto that .0001 percent hope (purely for morale reasons ) that we may get there.😁

I think portugal is mainly on the list due to it links with Brazil so think it may even not come off after their case drop

    @cheekyboy

Several all taxpayer funded mainly 6 to 8 month duration best highlight 10 days in the Seychelles, pissing off rich brits in the Hotel casino who had lashed out 10 grand for the holiday. Downside, couldn’t choose who you went with and had to share my room with 45 other hairy arsed blokes who liked to drink and fart.

😂Yep exactly the same as me highlights were global tour back in 2000 and FIGS back in 98 which had station leave in Barbados, probably one of my favourite place.

That is what they have been doing in a round about way. they both received the jab themselves last week due to some left over, but the centre is in a place where people wont be just walking by unfortunately.

My mum and dad are volunteering with the vaccine roll out and they said that some of the wastage is from people just not turning up (for whatever reason) , so completely out of their control. They try to find alternatives last minute nearly every day and sometimes that is not possible

There are many many more people than me who will be pissed by this…

I think you meant pleased that they will get the vaccine only 18 months are a new virus took hold of the world and scientists worked day and night to achieve this. You should be grateful we are not waiting years let alone months..

Didn’t realise that is how they were prioritising the vaccines Jamo-bo, hopefully get mine next week then and off on holiday it is , enjoy yourself under the bus…. This thread has been amazing at times and also comical, I think a bike ride is in order for some.

I’ll put my head above the parapet and say that I voted Tory last time out, I had what I believed to be good honest intentions at the time for what I thought was right for myself and my family, not voted too many times before, once for Lib dems and then the Eu vote which was a remain. Its not really until you have situations like this which being in pandemic has highlighted more of what is going on in the whole country not just in ‘my bubble’ so to speak which is how I have previously lived. Been through two recessions previously and maybe because I was younger and not bothered in voting but just cracked on I never really noticed what was happening in the general population. Over the last year what I have seen from the people that I suppose I put in place has not been good to watch (mildy put), I can honestly say I’ll not make the same mistake again, so for that I do apologise.
Back on topic, chaterwells have been a shower of sh*t for a while now so this is no surprise

I was in the Navy from 96-02 and wasn’t massively into music until this point. Being together with lads from all sorts of backgrounds brought lots of amazing music to my ears. Probably first memory would have been Dave Pearce at the Dance academy in plymouth, Slinky @ The Opera house in bournemouth was another good one but can’t remember who was playing :-). Home in sydney 2000 was another cracker of a night out. Locally everyone used to head to a place called Pawlett Manor which was really good for local DJ’s

We head to France every summer via tunnel, got 3 weeks holiday booked for end July, if we are allowed and all is well we will go, went this this year and although a bit quieter was good. I prefer quiet locations so was quite easy to distance etc and I’d be happy to do that again next year if I had to.

I’d buy a place in France in the southern Alps, either near sisteron or bit further down on the edge of Esparron du Verdon. And probably a place here in Somerset.

Thanks for the balanced response it was sort of the one I was hoping for. It is such an unknown and living where I am it is all a bit weird because we haven’t yet had the masses of infections and deaths as elsewhere so its sometimes difficult to see it other ways from the one that is in front of you. Thanks again.

    Morning Guys,

Not posted on this thread before but followed it daily and found it very informative. Hadn’t seen anyone post the stats mentioned in the link below about the extra 26,000 deaths that have happened at home. I’m not a a sceptic of Covid and know it is real but i do struggle a bit with what is happening to all the other people that go undiagnosed etc. I live in the southwest and the virus hasn’t affected me personally but know people who were being treated for other diseases which just stopped and are now not going to make it long term etc. My brother was diagnosed with cancer in march but luckily his treatment continued. I think a balance has to be struck between shielding and continuing daily life, I am just not sure what that balance is.

We went to the southern alps for two weeks beginning of August via tunnel, was booked last december and advice was that its ok to travel so we weighed up the risks and decided that we could probably social distance easy enough over there in a very quiet location compared to what some places were like here in the summer. I would have lost a fair bit of money if we hadn’t gone and that’s not something i have a lot of so we took all the risks on board and off we went. Had to isolate when home for 14 days which we thought may happen but was easy enough in the end. We don’t go to pubs or socialise in big groups at home so I don’t believe I can be classed as negligent when you see some of the things happening in some of the cities and towns over here with bars pubs and tourist areas heaving with people, mass protests with no social distancing at all. Idiots will be idiots no matter what country they are in.

@TroutWrestler we are doing similar and have decided that we are going to go now that FCO advice has changed our insurance covers us for medical expenses if needed due to covid etc. We are heading to southern Alps in a very quiet area and can be self sufficient. Obviously going has its risks but then that will always be there now whether at home or away so I’d rather try and make the most of it 😁
