I’m running Guide RS with Guide RE (Code) calipers….. No fade here. I find that if you need to keep on top of piston lubing with Sram brakes more than others…. But that gives me something to do on these dark nights.

I was in the same boat as you until 2 years ago. I cleaned my cellar out and painted the walls with rubber damp paint and the floor with rubber floor paint….best thing Ive ever done!! I skip ratted a kitchen worktop and made myself a work bench. I now have room for 3 bikes, a rowing machine, freeze, dryer and all my camping gear in a 14ft by 14ft cellar with a 6ft ceiling height.

We stopped at the Blackwater Hostel the last time we did the Macavalanche……. Great base as there’s some cracking riding from the door if your up for a few days.

My lad is 12 years old and stands 4″11. He made the jump from 24 to 27.5 without any problems….. In fact I think its made him progress quicker as he says the bike rolls quicker giving him more confidence to hit rougher ground….go for it….. Worse case scenario is you can just put some 26″ wheels on the bike if she doesn’t like it.

Thanks for the GPX….. that’s what I had planned roughly planned out. Can you still park in the Descend carpark or is that just for the uplifts?

Keenly watching this thread. How do they compare to Sram brakes regarding lever feel? I’ve ran Shimano previously but didn’t like the on off feel so reverted back to Guides which Im really happy with, I’m just looking for a bit more power…..contemplating putting Code calipers on but read about Shiguras and now I’m intrigued.

I’ve done this loop both ways….I wouldn’t recommend doing it on a weekend as the footpath sections are a popular route with ramblers and Park rangers….. Its a good route to do with the lights on 😉.. but Mortimer road is a slog on a MTB.

Hi… Thanks for the response guys. Were planning on be self sufficient mostly as regards to the food side of things maybe grabbing cake when it pops up. lol. I’ve started to make a list of gear that I think would be required, I just wondering what size handle bar bags are best. I was looking at a rucksack and bar bag combo.

Carpark test does seem to feel like they deaden vibration, I will be trying them out later today in anger….. I run my suspension fairly quick and was just wondering if it deaden the feeling of the rebound. Cheers for the responses guys.

Peg it out on the washing line….. Hose it down…. Quick scrub with a cloth… Leave to dry. I’ve tried every cleaning product listed and non of them clean to the standard that they advertise. Sweat is the main factor in the the waterproof lining degradation, I’ve had £15 Regatta jackets and had £150 Rab jackets….theyre not built for high temperature…. High perspiration. Personally I but cheap then I’m not fecked off when they lose the water repellent.

The Xm481 or Ex471 would be my ideal build…. But they’re coming back over budget at the moment. I’m on a double edge sword…. Its either buy hopes…. Crap Rims good hubs…… Hunt wheels….. Unknown longevity at the moment. Looks like another afternoon spent trolling the net.lol

The 30’s are overkill for my riding so its either the 26’s or a set of Hunt Enduro’s….. I’m just a bit cautious about the Hunt hubs. More digging me thinks before I bite the bullet. Cheers for the responses guys.

I had a set of the old hopes and found them like cheese….. Ideally I would have DT Rims on hope or Dt hubs but wifey is being a bit tight with my budget due to holidays.lol. Ive been offered a good deal on the Hopes so I’m just wondering how strong the 26’s are… I’m thinking there just the same rim as the old Enduro Rims just rr badged.

Are yours the Gen1 or Gen2?. The gen1 required a clamp to remove the preload tensioner…. I was just wondering if it was removable without the tool.

Have you tried to service them yet?…. Just wondered if you can do it without having to buy their tools.

Just swapped my 12 year olds small Giant trance over to 1×10 with a 30 up front and a 11-42 outback. He manages to get up everything he got up on his 2×10 set up. It’s all down to personal really. Personally I did it to save weight.

I currently own a Outwell Wentwood. Plenty of space and easy to inflate and deflate on my own as the wife a lad tend to stay out of the way for some reason when it’s pitch up and put down time. 😂.

lol….. I know where your coming from there. He’s running 27.5, I’ve been toying with the idea of Specialized Butcher/Purgatory but can’t decide whether to go for the Grid casing for the extra puncture protection as his line choice maybe a bit suspect to, start with. lol.
