After owning various jackets from all of the above brands over the years and having mixed luck with each brand I decided to give Paramo ago and will never go anywhere else…..they just work…..my favourite being my Torres Alturo jacket…. Toasty warm and not bulky.

I consider myself fairly lucky in some respect… Once the cold weather draws in my 13 year old nails his door shut and screens at his xbox most days but once the sun comes back out he rides every day either with his mates or me…. And sometimes if I’m lucky enough I get to tag along to the local DH tracks.

I would get it repaired at LSR if its still doing its job and keeping you dry…..I had a Rab jacket repaired a few years ago and its still going strong. I use it as my uplift day jacket now then Im not that bothered if it gets ripped again.

If anything you should be able to send it back to the Uk distributor with proof of purchase. The warranty is worldwide so it doesn’t matter where you purchased it just as long as you are the original owner. I had a similar issue a few years ago with a set of Pikes from Germany, I just sent them back to UK Sram for repair with no problems.

I’m using a Paramo Cambia ls base layer….. Its the best base layer I’ve had…. Wear it on way for warmth or turn it inside out for breathability. I was sceptical when purchased but it really does as it says on the tin. I ride all year round in it apart from summer with either a waterproof of windcheater.

I use a Thermos King Travel tumbler, stays hot for 4 hours easily and it’s never leaked yet. I’ve used mine daily for about a year now and it’s never let me down.

The lowers are magnesium so it would be a specialist welding job and not guaranteed…..second hand Yari’s all the way…..any footage of said crash???. lol.

Personally I wouldn’t touch Salomons again…. I bought some GTX’s for dog walking duties 4 miles twice a day and they fell apart after 5 months, I got a pair under warranty and they lasted a bit longer but then fell apart. Altbergs all the way now, they are pricey but worth every penny. Like someone said above try before you buy as they all fit different.

Is the lever moving in and out when you turn the adjuster?
The adjuster is a 2 part bolt, it could be that the thread lock has come unstuck. I’ve had this a couple of times. Strip the lever down and just apply some thread lock to the adjuster and reassemble and you should be go to go.

I’ve got both dexshell and Sealskinz…. The dexshells are thinner but I find the sealskinz tend to keep your feet warmer for longer.

I switched from Minions DHF/DHR combo to Michelin WEs about 4 years ago and will never go back to Maxxis… The Michelin’s blow the Maxxis out of the water on all fronts for me. I run them on 25mm rims with inserts and can’t remember the last time I punctured. I ride 2 to 3 times a week and a pair usually lasts about a year….. I do swap the rear out for a semi slick if it get dry enough.

I posted the same thing a few weeks ago and got various advice on settings which I tried but non seem to suit how I wanted the fork to feel so I just ended up doing a few runs fully open…. Then fully closed…. Then in the middle, that gave me a feel for how the forks felt and I just tweeked it until I got what I wanted. All in all it took about 2 hours in total. Here’s where I ended up at. I’m 90kg kitted up.

I got a Vaude Lierne from Ebay for about £40….pit zips and a good cut. Keeps you dry and packs down small as well.

I’ve just gone from Pikes to Lyrik ultimates and it is night and day regarding the stiffness between the two. It was a close call between the Lyriks and a set of Ohlins from JTEC but I got the Lyriks at a bargain price so that was that.

Why not just upgrade the internals of the Pikes if you find them stiff enough….Fast upgrade, smashpot coil,Push ACS will all make the fork better… What model and year Pike?

Have a look on European sites for the rims….. They seem to have more stock than the UK.

Shop around on the European sites…. Theres always some bargain DT Swiss rims to be had, how hard are you on your wheels?. If your hard I would look at EX 471s or for the more gentler rider the XM range…. They do the E range which are cheaper but I can’t comment on their strengths as I’ve never used them.

You could try moving your levers up a bit…. I use to get aching thumbs after rough rides, partly down to various hand injuries and having to much pressure on the area you mentioned. If roll your levers back a bit it takes some of the weight off that area…. At least that’s what I found.

I ordered a pair of Lyrik ultimates last the other week…. Turned up within 3 days…. And was £250 cheaper than anywhere else. They get my vote.

Personally I would go Ultimate…. It just gives you a bit more scope to dial in the bike in to what you want from it….. Or you could go select and save the cash and if you don’t like it get a new shock in the future…. How helpful was I then.lol.

I had the weight thought in the back of my mind when I purchased my 145 but to be honest it’s not noticeable when riding as the weight is low down and it pedals so well… I haven’t weighed mine but I definitely know its over 30lbs with a coil out back Lyrik’s and EX471’s.

I have a 145 and love it. It’s a absolute beast on the descents. I built mine up fairly burly with coil and Lyrik’s as a do it all bike. If find it pedals better than my previous bike despite it being heavier. I’m sure Ben will be along soon to answer your questions.

I had a 27.5 Tyee Ali a few years ago…. It rides well but the shock placement ain’t geared towards the lovely British winter weather….the airshaft only lasted 8 months on a Monarch. The customization on they’re site is great though…..sizing wasn’t the biggest aswell.

Have a look at R2-bike…. Theyre doing some cracking deals… I think they’ve got Yari’s at a steel. I picked up some Lyrik ultimates and turned up within 3 days.

Yes the Yari’s run lyrik lowers… Its just the internals that differ. Another thing to consider is if you do get new forks are you going to have to sort new wheels out….Im having a redish and spacer fitted for £15 so it’s a cheap fix.

I sold my old forks for 250 and got the new Lyrik’s for 610. It was 395 for the smashpot at TF with a service and I think the Push was 450. My Pike was non boost aswell, that was one of the reasons I opted for the Lyriks in the end. It all depends on if you want to move onto boost really. I had a chat with Ruth at TF and she gave me quite a few options tbh… And some bargains … I would give them a call as they can build you a fork up to what you want. I did have a look at the Ohlins coil fork aswell from Jtech which is a decent price but after riding my pals Lyrik… I was sold on the Lyriks.

I was in the same quandary with my Pike…… In the ended buying some Lyrik ultimates as they were a bargain…. I was going to convert the Pikes to coil either with the Smash pot or Push……only reason I didn’t is I wanted something a bit sturdier up front….. But I will do a coil conversion on them in the future.

Why not just buy the 160 linkage for the Aeris and a pair of 160 forks on and then you’ve got the best of both worlds. I recently did a uplift at Innerleithen on my 145 coil and had more fun than I did when I was my DH bike.

All the Edges are nice Bamford,Stanage,Froggatt, Calver and White Edge…. Personally I would do the Dove Dale walk as its closer to Buxton…. You can do it either way but I prefer to do it from the Dove Dale car Park upto Millers Dale then you can have Slice of cake and Tea at the cafe then walk back to the car. Also its worth a look at Lathkill Dale too ( my personal fav) do it from the Monyash end and there’s a lovely Cafe at Over Hadon.. Garden tea rooms I think.
