Came to suggest FM4 👍 but again, it’ll be Austrian German (not that I can really speak or understand German any more..! 😭)

Mk3 Golf Recaro fronts seem to be a popular option and may well drop lower.

I’m over the moon that fexofenadine is finally available otc rather than having to get it on prescription as in years past it’s been the only thing that’s kept mine under control in conjunction with the fluticasone spray.

That said, every year since I stopped dairy consumption my symptoms have gotten milder and milder, to the point where I can get by on the spray at half-dose and loratadine every couple of days. Could be a spurious correlation but I’m not complaining!

But not really suffering with drowsiness from it at all though.

Should have said – I did call them..

Found one on a website in Germany for $11 but shipping is €16! If I can’t find one in the UK I think that’ll be my best option.

They have a new shock (at £400! 😱) but no spares sadly..

Another vote for a £30 Gumtree/FB Marketplace bike for town duties. Something with bolted axles, etc. Can’t go wrong!

Well, 30/11 at 90rpm on a 29er is just over 21mph, which on the flat is a decent enough pace!

I think learning to spin a little faster, and a 29er with 34t (or even a 36t) up front with 11-50 out back would give you the range you need – which would open up a lot more options in terms of bikes available to you, is what I’m getting at 👍

On a 26″ wheel with a 2.25 tyre, 42/11 at 90rpm is over 27mph – are you really hitting that on the flat!?

    For reference, 34/11 at 90rpm on a 29er will give you 24mph.

Learn to spin – most people think 90rpm is “spinning out” when you can actually sustain well over that quite happily. Extends your usable gear range without having to change any hardware, so cost=0! Happy days..

Seem to be a few 2021 GT Grade Carbon Elite around and on sale for £1700-1800, GRX 2×10 with hydraulic discs. Add a second set of wheels from Hunt for £5-600 and you’re set 👍

Nope, not for a second. Far, far, far less work and restricting than kids would have been, and unconditional love is pretty much guaranteed.

First one in ages, off to see The Midnight at Pryzm in Kingston next Wednesday. Would have liked to see them in Brighton at Concorde2 on the Thursday but that’s Rangers vs. RB Leipzig at Ibrox on the TV, so.. 😁

If eBay, I’d start at 99p No Reserve and be happy if it went over £200. Otherwise I’d say £150-200 tops.

Then you get stuff like On The Luna by Foals, which is a polymeter song, in that for parts of it the instruments are playing different time signatures to each other..

Yup, the Aeris 145 was originally 145mm travel, then Bird released the LT linkage which upped the travel to 160mm whilst also altering the leverage curve to make it a bit poppier (for lack of a better word!). They then released the AM160 which was essentially a slightly updated version of the 145LT. All versions rated to use 170mm forks as well, I believe.

That’s all 650b wheels – if you want 29er, have a look for the 150mm travel AM9 (which also has the RRR linkage available, which changes the leverage curve but doesn’t alter the travel IIRC).

I’d agree with the above in that toe clips with straps are waaaay harder to get out of than clipless. Either try MTB SPDs with the multi-release cleats, or just use plain MTB flat pedals.

Jedi is right – I should have clarified! Don’t force your heels down, but if you weight through your feet and keep your ankles relaxed then your heels naturally drop rather than the heel-up/toe-down position that seems to be more prevalent when clipped in.

Also, set your extended saddle height to be a bit lower so you’re not hyper-extending and/or lifting your heels as you go through the bottom of the pedal stroke. Helps massively I find.

Children ride bikes with flat pedals, not clipped in. Ergo, if you can’t ride without being clipped in, children are better riders than you..

    <tosses grenade, runs away>

    🤣

Anyways.. Its not that hard. Heavy feet, light hands. Ball of the foot over the innermost front pin/corner of the pedal. Get used to both feet occasionally not being in exactly identical positions. If you’re getting bounced off, you’re not weighting your feet enough. Heels down!

To add – she is WFH so has started back at work today. I’m not expected back in the workshop until I have two consecutive days’ worth of negative tests (hopefully the first will be tomorrow), but am lucky to be able to do some WFH tomorrow as a colleague dropped my laptop off last week when I was only expecting to be ill for a couple of days. Quite lucky in that neither of our employers expects people to come in whilst still testing positive.

Tested positive last week on the last day of a domestic holiday long weekend – had woken up feeling a bit off, with a very slight cough. Other half tested negative but also felt a little under the weather. Cut short our last day to drive home early; I stayed in the car the whole way, she only got out to fuel up and did so fully masked, anti-bac wiping everything, etc.

Wednesday she tested positive as well, and neither of us felt great. Thursday to Sunday was really bad – fever, fatigue, sweats, shaking, constant hacking cough, raw throat, no appetite, the works. She started feeling a bit better Sunday morning and is almost back to normal now and testing negative. I started feeling a bit better yesterday and am now just about feeling OK.

Both still have a slight cough and get tired quite easily at any physical exertion. Both still have blocked-feeling ears as well, but neither of us had any loss of smell or taste. As we were both triple-jabbed, I’m hoping for no long-term effects after the coming weeks 🤞

My commute is 6 miles, and I only tend to do it when it’s dry anyway. No tools or puncture repair kit – have heavy duty commuter tyres and slime-filled inner tubes, plus my commuter is hub-geared, so SS chain. Backpack with work clothes in, and I keep a wash kit and towel at work for having a shower. Two each of front and rear lights, plus mudguards just in case it rains.

Also, dogs kill fewer people than other people, so it’s clear we should ban people, right? Dogs also make me happier than people do, and I’d wager lots of other feel similarly. See, I can make silly arguments too!
