Why can’t you ride from the door? Couldn’t see anything mentioned in previous thread. What sort of riding do you usually do?

Oatly Barista in coffee here if I have anything, but we have a bean-to-cup machine at work so I just have black from that. Unsweetened soya for cereal and smoothies, with a drizzle of agave syrup on occasion. My IBS has improved massively since going vegan and cutting out dairy.

Not sure that’s helping, now he’s going to have to make tethers for his wheels.

    If it’s good enough for F1.. 😉

As an example of how strong friction/clamping force is, remember that that’s how the driving/braking force is transmitted between the hubs and wheels on a car.

I have that exact rack – you’ll be fine as it is, it’s designed for it.

I spent 8 years or so as a service engineer, visiting aerospace and materials manufacturing plants over the UK and the world. Football is an almost universal language and topic of conversation – I found that being able to chat on even the most basic of level about what was happening in the English Premiership (the most widely watched league around the world) would go great lengths towards building a rapport with the guys on site that I was working with, which in turn meant they were that much more willing to help you out, lend you a hand, tools, whatever. Made every job that much easier and more pleasant.

I think sometimes people wear their difference from the masses too much like a badge of honour, as though it somehow elevates them above the hoi polloi. You’re not better, just different. Our time here is short and fleeting, and if you can’t understand why the first topic of conversation with a stranger might be the most popular and widely played/followed sport in the world then I think that says far more about you than it does them.

Well yeah, you can tweak the numbers either way tbh. I was just going on most likely max LTV in the current climate, standard term has always been 25 years, yes? 3% is probably the rate available to a FTB family at max LTV (it was for us, well, 2.8%). That’s assuming family help to get the £60k deposit needed on 85%LTV, or say they have that in equity from having bought a 2-bed flat 5 years ago.

Put it this way, we were paying £950pcm rent on a 3-bed mid-terrace. Our 95%LTV mortgage on a £285k 2-bed mid-terrace (5% deposit was all we could get) is now £1200 a month. I know which one I’d rather be doing, but to say that mortgages are always cheaper than renting isn’t true.

I don’t know about anyone else, but where I am (Surrey/Hants Borders), rents are actually cheaper than mortgages..

    Example:
    https://www.zoopla.co.uk/to-rent/details/49332789
    3-bed detached with garage, £1425pcm

    https://www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/55962446
    3-bed detached with garage, £400k. 85%LTV mortgage at 3% over 25 years, £1612 a month.

Same street, virtually next to each other.

Pretty serious issue and a massive failure if the software/hardware has allowed the bike to propel itself with no user instruction.

In the automotive world there is ISO 26262, wonder if the cycling industry knows what an FMEA is, how to design to it and implement function safety into its software. A good example of this is some sensors will have two outputs which can be cross checked for plausibility.

Agreed – this sounds like an erroneous output from the torque sensor, but that’s one sensor I would definitely have thought would have had compared dual outputs for this exact reason.

Possibly the Fabric Scoop..? Not a leather saddle so should last well. Can’t comment on creakiness though!

Quick question then, with those co2 inflaters you get. Can you store them on the cannister or do you need to store separate?

    https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Blackburn/Mammoth-CO2FER-Mini-Pump-and-Inflator/D0JI

Combined CO2 inflator and pump – stores 1x cartridge in the body of the pump 😁

Unless it’s a properly long ride (4hrs+)where I’ll take a pack, I just take a bottle on the frame, plus a Blackburn Outpost corner frame bag containing:
    Combined pump/CO2 inflator, plus 2x C02 carts
Multitool with chain breaker and spoke key
    Tyre lever
    Chain quick link
    Tubeless repair anchovies
    Small cable ties
    Gear inner cable
    Mech hanger
Small folding pliers with knife blade

Anything I can’t fix with that and I’m calling the cavalry!

I would have said the Bird AM9 would split the difference between those two as well. Works well with a coil too apparently.

Generally just re-lube the chain after washing. Some people like to use GT85 on fork stanchions as well.

Standard aftermarket saddle still seems to be the veritable Charge Spoon as it’s cheap and the shape seems to suit a wide range of people.

brose motors are sealed units so if a bearing goes it’s toast

Nope, Performance Line Bearings can replace them.

Is fitting an angle headset, Cane Creek etc, feasible for such heavy beasts?

Again, the difference in weight is less than between a 12st6 rider and a 14st rider! How much do people think an e-bike weighs..!? 🤣

    idiotdogbrain

I really don’t get all the fuss made over bottoming-out suspension, increased momentum and needing huge brakes on an e-bike though; they’re just over a stone heavier than a non-ebike ffs! As if a bike can’t cope with the difference between a 12st6 rider and a 14st rider.. 🤦‍♂️

£18 and you can try it on. I usually fit Specialized helmets but bought one of these in blue as a cheap commuter helmet and I can’t imagine you’d get better for the money.

Tried this as well but it was a bit round and wide for my head sadly.

I have genuinely no idea how people cut their shins on pedals while riding, what is the mechanism?

Keeping the same foot position as when riding clipless – ball of foot over the pedal axle. Totally wrong for riding flats.

In all honesty, the fact that so many seem to “struggle” with riding flat pedals, aka without the crutch of being attached to the bike, tells you everything you need to know. Nobody learns to ride a bike as a kid clipped in..

As has been said – if a house isn’t selling, it’s because it’s too expensive for what it is. The options are:
    1. Drop the price (anything will sell if it’s cheap enough)
    2. Add value/desirability to make it worth the money

With the attic bedroom of that size, adding an en-suite is almost mandatory. Plus the garden (jungle!?) is atrocious, get that cut back.

For me, the location right on a main road with no front garden and only on-street parking is a deal-breaker though, but not much you can do to change that unfortunately.

You’ve never heard of Brodie Bikes..!?

    “About Brodie Bicycles

Brodie Bicycles was founded in 1986 by mountain Bike Hall of fame welder and artist Paul Brodie, whose work has been featured in museums such as the Guggenheim. Over the past 20 years the company has quietly revolutionized off road bicycle design and influenced the drawing boards of the larger, better known companies in the industry. Design and testing for Brodie Bicycles is done the world over and is still coordinated through the company’s international headquarters based in Vancouver, BC.”

Yes, they’re good. All decent steel is chromoly steel BTW – it means it’s alloyed with chromium and molybdenum.

I assume the access way across the back is right next to the houses? Could an alternative solution be that everyone agrees to forfeit the bottom metre of their gardens so a shared alleyway with fencing and gates into each individual properties can be built? Of course, with you at the far end, you’d lose nothing.. 😉

Just a point about used bikes being collection only – this is because shipping e-bike batteries requires a specialist shipper with the necessary controls and approvals due to their capacity (i.e. you can’t just send them with Parcel force or the like), hence why they’re collection only.

Unless you’re happy taking the risk on an out-of-warranty motor or battery failing (I was), I’d say buy new or buy a new conversion kit. I wouldn’t consider anything other than a mid-drive, or the Tongshen torque sensing kit myself, but your budget may have other ideas.

Is her existing bike decent? A TSDZ2 kit with battery is about £660 and looks like it fits in a couple of hours. https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?cdkit#tsdz2

What worked in your relationship won’t be true for everyone. For some people, constantly feeling like they’re holding up a ride whilst simultaneously blowing out of their arse is demotivating enough for them to give it up and not try at all. If an e-bike can be used to get someone interested and enjoying cycling, then as their base fitness rises they can work their way to an unassisted bike. Or you all get e-bikes and go for miles further!

Back on topic, a friend of ours has the £1700 Decathlon hardtail and it’s a great bit of kit – I see no reason the cheaper offerings wouldn’t also be good.

Atera Strada Ebike ML fits up to 143cm wheelbase – not folding, but it does tilt for boot access, and you can extend it to 3 bikes as well. I love ours.

30×11 @ 120rpm on 650b/2.35 works out at 27mph – how often do you need to pedal at that speed? Going to a 10t at that cadence takes you to just shy of 30mph. If you need that on the flat, why aren’t you pro!?

I run 30t with 10-42t 11sp and have done for 3 years – can probably count on both hands the number of times I’ve used the 10t in anger, but I tend to use road downhills for recovery if at all.. 😉

CRC/Wiggle have both the 150mm and 170mm Brand X Ascend in stock in 31.6mm diameter. Not sure why anyone would buy anything more tbh – it’s cheap and reliable, and in stock!
