It’s a discovery with a more attractive name

Would you not just buy a proper landie 🤷‍♂️ and if your not looking for that utterly life/wallet changing experience (I’ve a love/hate with my 110 going on 10+ years), just go get a discovery for Christ sake or a Skoda yeti which looks very like the new defender 👍🤣

I had an issue like this driving me nuts for ages, turned out the q factor of my cranks wasn’t correct so every time I put power into the left crank it ever so slightly contacted the chainstay and gave me a very weird “knock” feeling/noise up through the frame.

Bodge award goes to silasgreenback 👍🎉🎉 the simple solution actually worked, ran 3 runs of blue electrical tape around the outside and bottom of the bearing, cut away any excess on top and no play in the headset anymore. Might do the same with the bottom bearing but that seems perfect. Thanks 👍

There’s still some knocking but that’s coming from a combination of the cheap forks
and brakes I’m using which I’m perfectly okay with once the headset is sorted.

Haven’t heard of that stuff, how does it work? Put a layer of putty into the cup, tighten bearing in and leave?

Was thinking maybe trying loctite 638, that’s up to .25mm correct? What’s loctites biggest retaining compound?

There is a small bit of play that I can reduce to near nothing by tightening the top cap too much, but I’d rather have slightly looser steering so I’m trying to figure out a solution.

i started buying bits from china/ali during covid lockdowns and i must say i have been pleasantly surprised, i now have 2 mtb frames, a road frame and every conceivable component/accessory from china. Overall, ive gotten working parts of reasonable quality, one thing i find more than anything is smaller parts (screws/bolts etc.) are made from very soft metal and strip easy. Currently building an xc hardtail from 100% china parts (bar deore 12sp derailleur/shifter), even trying out a balony boost fork :D

As I love to buy a frame and build up I feel like I have most certainly been priced out of the mainstream market. The only thing that would lead me to buy a 3k frame is the potential resale value.
As of 2 years ago I bought a Chinese carbon enduro frame+wheels for 1.5k, flawless and rides great, can’t see myself going back to mainstream full suspension frames with current prices tbh.

I’ve a road bike frame from velobuild that I’ve used for 4 years, would buy from them again, only issue it had was a slipping seat post that a plastic shim fixed.

I’ve an enduro bike from ICAN (p9) which I’ve ridden for 1.5 years, flawless to date and am very happy with quality.

They do a nice more affordable wireless dropper too, takes a bit to get used to the mechanism but it is nice 😊

Imo it’s either go cheap (brand X) or ludicrous (vyron/axs)

Love my v4s, have them paired with 220f 200r rotors on my enduro bike and absolutely love them, easily on par with the mt7s I had on my last bike, just much nicer levers.

However absolutely hate the look of these tech 4s, surely part of the hope appeal was the look of them

have a magura myself, awesome bit of kit, can just take my seatpost out whenever i want to check and top up air pressure, can adjust height whenever i feel like it, and as others have said i can swap it between my bikes as i see fit

I keep thinking I’ve left my water bottle at home on every bloody ride, only to realise I’ve left it on the bonnet….every single time

If I wanted to try wireless shifting I’d be looking at the archer d1x system to be honest, certainly am not paying over 400-500 for a bloody gx shifter+derailleur.

I did something similar with my last build (cube stereo 140 c62), used a tube with super glue :D. Trying to do something a bit nicer this time though, doing a pretty high end build (lyrik ultimate, carbon hoops,12sp xtr gears, hope v4s, chris king bb and headset).

Had mt7’s in my last Enduro bike, loved them, very good brakes.

Bought an mt5 for my HT and it is a good brake, only issue is I can’t get it to not rub the rotor.

Had a rear v3 hub, used for the last 4 months, flange at the drive side cracked for no discernible reason, really bad as well, hairline crack running around the entire hub on the drive side. Wouldn’t be in a rush to get one again.

Just sold my Enduro bike that had mattoc pro 2’s, absolutely loved them, best forks id ever tried. Problem is trying to sell a bike with them won’t get you the same money if say you had a pike, lyric, or 36

Id say its like anything bike related from china, probably some half decent stuff and a whole lot of garbage as well. The ZTTO uding range looks decent (have had success with ztto stuff before), and theres a carbon rs1 copy that looks alright and gets decent reviews. Havnt spotted any >120mm stuff though.

the calipers on the bike are zee, i tried the bike with an avid elixer as well but same issue

    icyseanfitz

disk is definitely not the problem as i tried a vented floating rotor from my own bike and it didnt stop it, seems to originate from the hub/axle area but i really cant see anything wrong with them, thru-axle seems straight and uncracked, cant be the hub either as i tried my own rear 142×12 wheel and it only reduced it a small bit. bit of a head scratcher this one, might try taping a bolt or two onto the rear triangle to see if it does anything. But its not so much a sound as it is a judder/vibration that can be felt.

Thanks for all the suggestions lads, appreciate it :)

id be thinking its the frame too except the only pivot that had play i just replaced the 2 bushings in it, i assumed that was what was causing the issue in the first place but nope :D i just faced the caliper bolt mounts and nada either. I didnt spot any cracks anywhere in the frame but il have another look to make sure.

Im not sure the cassette could be causing the issue as it happens any power down on the pedals, i can literally drag it while walking and get the vibrations, ill check either way just in case though, could be anything at this stage.

the dorado air damper is really really good imo, ive about 70 psi @ 95kg, 30% sag, 1 click of hsc 2 clicks lsc and 1 click hbo and its absolutely eating all the steep tech i can throw at it as well as plenty of drops and jumps.

I have a 2017 crc mattoc pro 2 @ 160mm and am loving it. Ive ridden pikes, lyriks, 34’s and 36’s over the last 2 years and i actually prefer it over them all. Its not as stiff as a lyrik or 36 but im finding it super plush, rides high in its travel and has a boat load of tuning options. The HBO is also really a really nice feature. weighs in at around the same as a pike too.

was out for a ride last week and came across a guy with 5 god damn terriers all off the leash, only one of them was a nasty little sob, i did my usual slow down and try to be as friendly as possible to show i wasnt a threat but he was having none of it, he must have really liked the taste of 510’s :D passed the guy again and this time i stopped to see if i could calm the dog/rat, nope wanted some more 510! if he had gotten my leg i would have kicked him tbh and then promptly kicked the owner up the arse too. Zero sense, if your dog is clearly attacking people then leash him ffs

Bike is finally finished :) delighted with how it rides as well, pedals uphill much better than i thought it would with the 160mm fork and the offset bushings bringing the head angle down to somewhere between 65.5 – 66. Well impressed with the manitou mattoc pro 2, super plush, light with loads of adjustments. Still trying to figure out best shock setup but its running well so far.

Trying to set it up for riding without a backpack as well so ive put the syncros matchbox waterbottle cage on. Really slick piece of kit.
