I have repurposed my old treasured lava dome (that I did a big year long adventure on) as my turbo bike. I can fiddle with stem length and blocks etc to get it to right height and reach to be similar to my road bike. This way it gets ridden and much lower risk of it getting stolen (which would make me very sad…)

I find the road one great. Sent back the nth one due to previously mentioned weird round head shape

2 inch tyres and a rear rack in place.

Sounds like the sks u75 are what I need. I want the full dry foot and leg feeling :)

Just giving this a bump as time running out and not found anything yet :( budget gone up to £250…

Subway is a good shout. Given he’s a teenager and it’s inevitable he’ll leave his bike out in the rain and Southsea spray do you think gun gear is better option or not much in it?

He lives in Southsea so I think mostly it’ll be cycling round to mates houses and the odd family ride. Nobody else in the family rides off road so think it’ll mostly be road but he wants chunky tyres just because…

With the sea air it probably needs to be as rust friendly as poss. No suspension, hub gears probably an idea but might be hard on the budget

The questions asked by the candidate are a key part of my interview process. Intelligent questions about the company, its vision and your role in it show you are a strong candidate. The only one I probably wouldn’t have asked is who you’ll be reporting in to. Unless you mean, which position in the company, in which case fine.

What kind of role are you going for?

Thanks all. Maybe we should push the budget for the Pendleton

Ah, ok. In that case I’d give one a go if I were you! Thinking about getting one myself for winter adventures but it hasn’t got cold enough yet…

    Where are you based @lotto?

I’ve got a few Paramo and would be happy to lend you one if you want to see how it works out for you? I’m based in Tonbridge

Majority of waterproofs still have PFC DWR which will generally be reactivated by tumble drying on a warm setting. Nikwax and Grangers don’t require the heat activation but most jackets will benefit from it.

Plus one for a Paramo smock. I’ve got the lighter weight one and ride in it throughout the winter.

I bought into the indiegogo campaign these guys https://www.swytchbike.com/ did and am hoping it’ll convert my wife’s old hybrid into something that she’ll actually use :)

Cost me £300 (think it might be a bit more now) . What I like about it is that I should be able to move it between bikes fairly easily and it only adds 3kg to the bike. 1.5kg for the battery and 1.5kg for the hub

More and more retailers get stock direct now rather than going through distributors because of the volume of sales. A lot of retailers sell more volume than the distributors that used to sell to them…this means the original brand then offers better terms to the retailer than the distributor. And everyone gets pissed off. It’s fun. And something I have to deal with regularly!

Lurcher would make an awesome gravel bike. Mine is an old inbred with surly krampus fork. Crazy heavy and loadsa clearance :) guess it’s more of a monster cross really…

I’ve done this. The 29er frame I use is slightly smaller than I’d usually go for a 29er XC bike and the stem slightly shorter than I’d ideally have as a ‘gravel’ bike but it works a treat and only cost me £100 :)

I’d buy the Genesis on the classifieds at the mo (it’s not mine btw!)

You should find quite a good selection on eBay. I recently saw a lovely pair of Chris Kings at a bargain price but they were 135mm rear end and the conversion kit was silly money so I passed

I think this turbo seems quite a good deal.
Been asking the STW Hive mind before pressing Pay but think it’s for me…

Like the look of the follow me but it’s quite pricey. And they don’t seem to come up secondhand much

Thankfully I can use it in the garage so I should be ok. Although having listened to the noise it makes on the DCRainmaker review I reckon I could get away with it inside too…

Seems like a no brainer then. Will pause on the spare wheels for the gravel bike and spend it on the trainer – it’ll probably get more use!

It’s South Downs way for me. I know it’s dull and not technically challenging etc but I grew up at the foot of the Downs so it’s always been a special place to visit. And I like that you can bat along all day on a traffic free route with awesome views the whole time.

    What’s a GSD? I ideally don’t want to buy a new bike but if I have too… ;)

The cargo bike sounds interesting…how do you fix child seats to it? Are the seats you can fix suitable for 1 year olds?

Trailer sounds like best option. It’s a pretty quiet train, going against the flow south into Kent…they all seem to need a QR axle though. And I have an alfine hub on the commuter. Any thoughts on what to do about that?

I circled the Curtis frames for ages before going for a ti frame (secondhand). Kind of wish I’d got the Curtis to be honest!

Plus one for shipyard. Also, the Lidl IPAs are pretty good. The blue one with red on it (can’t remember name) is least fruity

I’d spend £1k on one of the bikes I’ve already got :)

A super light road wheelset for my gravel bike

Nikwax do a footwear specific spray. It’s called Fabric and Leather Proof. It costs less than a fiver so worth trying. I use it on my Vans

I have to give his old bike back to my sister. And he ‘needs’ a bike. Good idea re the pedals. I think the problem is going to be the fact it isn’t the same one. He’s quite particular….
