Funnily enough I have just tried it. Doesn’t seem to have the full range I’d expected! Nevermind…

Planet X have got some pretty decent lights on offer at the moment. Bought a 700lumen one for less than £20 which doubles as a torch

All this chat of taking your chains off every few hundred miles makes me think you have a much easier way of getting your quick links to open and re-use than I do.

Or do you simply have a stash of affordable quick links?

I have a 20mph near me and at least once a week I get some twunt flashing me and then speeding past as soon as it opens up to 2 lanes.

I hooted once and the guy then pulled over and got out thinking I was worked up enough to ‘have a chat’. Hooting is about as aggressive as I can manage so I just cruised on by and thankfully he didn’t follow me…

The tumble drying thing (or ironing) will only have an effect if your jacket originally had PFCs on it. If it’s one of the newer, more environmentally friendly ones don’t bother. Just use Tech Wash and then TX Direct.

    + 1 for agencies I’m afraid.

Any dev hunting for a job is probably a bit shit. Or newly qualified.

You could try LinkedIn. If your biz is suitably interesting it’s worth doing a bit of speculative outreach to people you like the look of. Everyone likes feeling in demand…

I’ve got the foamy ones on the lower area and road tape around the rest. I love them (although mine are actually the Jones variant) but not really for trail riding. Great for bike packing, long distance commuting, school run etc

I can sympathise with the hydraulic disc brake concern. Admittedly they very rarely go wrong but it’ll always been when you least need them to that something goes wrong and a cable disc is relatively easy to tinker with. Rim brakes a PITA if you are heavily loaded as buckled wheels a higher risk.

Def go geared though. As others have said you can always SS it. Or take a spare rest mech?!

had my father-in-laws 80th birthday party in the garden on Sat down in Kent.

My wife had been worrying about it all week due to the forecast. turns out she was right to worry about the weather. It was shocking. Whole place was a mud bath. But…we huddled under some borrowed gazebos and nobody died. We even had quite a nice time and the evening was lovely.

Didn’t touch the bike but will be slogging out on the single speed this evening and ready with the hose. Looking up for this week though!

Ordered the air shaft from tf tuned and they are sending me all the oils etc I need.

Was thinking of putting bike on a stand and leaving forks on the bike to service. Bad idea?

Going to need a vid to help me do this so if anyone can recommend one that doesn’t need you to take off the top cap please let me know :)

The forks are pretty new so not likely to need much of a service etc I would hope

Ok, so I haven’t serviced my forks before. I have space. But I don’t have a lowers removal tool or the correct size flat socket for top of the forks.

I think I have a bolt that will act as the removal tool and am hoping a standard wrench will suffice for top of forks?

would recommend spending bit less on the frame to make room in your budget for second set of wheels. If you want to do fast club runs one week and gravel blasts the next you will want different tyres. And if you have plenty of cash you can get a bling set of light race wheels for your road sessions. I have a Reilly Gradient at the mo which would be ideal but for the fact that I have not splashed the cash on the second wheel set so at the moment it sits in that unhappy in between place. I still love it, but it could be much better if I wasn’t trying to use it as a ‘Do-it-all’ bike with tough wheels and 32mm tyres

depends how much his has looked after it over the last two years. And whether or not he can be bothered to try and find another buyer.

He can probably get more for it if he sells it elsewhere so if you look at it like that he’d be doing you a favour and missing out on £££

Getting advice from an electrician is easier said than done ;)

They came and did a visit but despite multiple chases no quote yet.

Based in Kent, nr Tonbridge. Pond is about 2.5m by 4.5m and around 1m deep. Dug it a little while ago and it’s got quite stagnant and green now…

Hmmm, all sounds sensible but I am pretty incompetent when it comes to DIY electrics. So if I buy 100m of armoured cable and stick a heavy duty plug on each end I’ll be ok?

Sadly not. Tried one…not enough power to do anything useful

My brother and sister have both gone full on conspiracy theory. My sister I get, she blends oils and potions. My bro however is an engineer who I’d previously thought of as pretty sane. He also has a vulnerable daughter.

I just avoid talking to them about it at the mo tbh.

I tried running 650b x 50mm tyres and went out for a ride with my roadie mate.

It was awful. I really thought, how bad could it be. Turns out pretty bad.

Sold the 650b wheelset and kept some 32mm tyres on the gravel bike which I now happily ride with said roadie mate. And when he’s looking a bit smug I make him do a little bit of farm track as an ‘essential loop closer’ just to rattle him about

I do have some defeet ones as well and to be fair they’ve lasted a bit longer than on one thickies but on their way out too.

Will try and few of the suggested options and run a test ;)

Well…a lot of them not actually available when you got to buy. Only place with decent price I’ve seen is eBay and it looks a bit dubious…guess I should have said I don’t really want to spend much over £150/£200

What sort of rise do you reckon? I’ve actually got 10mm less on the forks than I should have (130mm instead of 140mm, because that’s what I had).

    30mm rise maybe?

    ibnchris

Yeah, it’s got a short renthal stem. So, you reckon put them down to the headset and riser bar?

    ibnchris

Any of these sites are going to rinse you on price. For their model to stack up they effectively have to offer you about half what they might get for it. Especially with bikes. Stick it on here or on eBay.

Or find a mate who will sell it for you for 10% commission?

Plus one for the FollowMe. It’s spenny but was actually what got my son cycling.

Adds a lot of weight etc but feels solid. And I’ve taken him round Bedgebury on it too

Bought a Mercedes Vito import that was converted for me by an outfit down near Chichester.

It was crap. I should have got it checked out properly before I handed over the cash but he was a good salesman. The tyres were perished, suspension knackered and a random red light on the dash. Ended up selling it back to the guy who sold it to me for a loss. Did want to be responsible selling it on to someone other poor sod.

Yeah, was in a cab in Riyadh and the driver took a fancy to me. I was 23 year with blond flowing locks…he got his tackle out and said he’d take me back to his for fun times. I wasn’t really up for those sort of fun times.

I kind of needed to go to work. So I’m ashamed to say I hit him (the first and only time I’ve ever hit someone as an adult) and ran out of the cab into rush hour traffic. Raised the heart rate a tad.

Plus one for Burley Bee. I use it for one 5 year old and take the 2 year old in a hamax on the down tube. They could both squeeze in (and do when raining) but it causes a fight…so I trust Chuck the hamax in the trailer and leave that behind

I found a tip on another thread to stick it in the freezer. That worked a treat. Freezer for a few hours, then came out easily with a pair of pliers 👍
