Thanks all. The hubs are pro4.

it’s a set of 650b that I bought for my road bike but thought I’d give them a go on an old Kona frame I have too. Ideally I’d also be able to go 135mm QR on the back if that is possible? At the mo they are 142 x 12mm

Attempted to ride up Helvellyn via Dollywagon Pike – a fair bit of carrying to get past the Pike but well worth it for the ride along the tops and then a lovely descent. A few moody walkers mind but I can kinda empathise – was a lovely day for a walk!

Plus one for the Reilly Gradient. I have one, it’s awesome. Got a pair of hope 20fives for Road riding with 35mm slicks and a pair of hope xc 27.5 wheels with 2 inch tyres for off road duties. Think it takes 48mm on a 700 wheel

I’ve got a stanton Sherpa with hope enduros and pikes. It is ‘burly’ but does what I want it to do. Definitely wouldn’t choose it as a lightweight option but surely you’d go Carbon if that’s what you want?

The California Beach is the dream but apparently have to wait until kids are bigger. And I am richer…

I just got a frame builder to weld on a set. £40 and seems to work well 🙂

Thanks guys – maybe I should just get another set – be easier for switching duties!

Thanks Dave – yes, got it from Mark Reilly down in Brighton. Lovely guy and can’t recommend them enough. Feels like the ultimate do it all bike. At least if you live in the south east it is. Coped admirably with South Downs chalk and mud with a very out of shape rider

Like that. Will search out some nice orange bolts…and maybe a silver seat clamp

Like the idea of the jockeys and agree on the bottle cages. Mark offered me some of his carbon ones but don’t trust myself not to break them (am a bit hamfisted) ti would be nice.

Yeah, the pedals were the only spares in the shed because I forgot to order new ones! And the stickers…well, new Bike excitement got the better of me. Needs a Hope orange seat clamp too.

Just had a similar thing. The wife bought me a Reilly Gradient frame. Tis a thing of beauty – I pick it up next weekend (I saved up for the build over last 18month so I get my 40th birthday present en route to my 42nd…

if you guys are still (8 months on) considering a Reilly I can tell you their new frames are flat mount 🙂

If you’re going to his house to view it I don’t imagine he’s stolen the bike. But if you’re meeting him in a Car park I’d think twice and ask for some kind of proof of id so that if something bad does happen you can trace it back

Got same conundrum…an ibis mojo I don’t use much. But realise I’d only get a few hundred for it so keeping it for big rides up north a few times a year if I’m lucky 🙂

So I measured up my current road bike…the fork length and head tube is about equal to the proposed purchase.

But the top tube is 570 with effective top tube of 580 and I run a 140mm stem (which is probably a bit long tbh) but everything pointing me towards thinking a 570 gravel Bike May be better…

Hmmm, bit confused. Some folk saying smaller but Doverbiker, are you suggesting it would be better to be a bit bigger? Difference between two sizes is only 2cm Effective top tube – so would I be safer to go large?

Sounds like the medium might be the best bet. He did say if it ends up being too small he’ll change without any problem but be good to get it right first time. He did also size me up very professionally (measuring legs, core, shoulders, difference between arms lengths etc) so he should probably know better than me!

So it does make sense to go a bit smaller for somethIng you’ll take off-road?

I’m about to get measured up for s Reilly Gradient…lovely looking thing and gets good reviews toobut maybe not that many about so not as much hype?

Thanks all. First time back on the bike after two months due to major surgery so will need to make sure I take it easy but desperate to get out on the bike for a couple of hours now the doc says it’s ok!

Go secondhand. The above sounds like a v good option. I just bought a lovely stanton Sherpa for £850 secondhand. Got the odd chip but otherwise well maintained with hope wheels and brakes and a new drivetrain. Some bargains to be had…

Nanny state because I’m off booze at the mo and it’s a tasty v low alcohol option. Like the idea of a non ‘manly’ brand on my shirt so I can encourage people to bait me…

Stick some drops on it, a set of cross wheels and call it a gravel bike

Check out Curtis. I am currently listing after an AM+ that I am going to tweak to my spec.

I like Guy. And Hope. But really?! Cheap squeezy in a bucket of lovely warm water works fine. If I’m feeling flush I do a bit of a spray with an all purpose cleaner (supermarket cheapo brand of course…)

If you’re anywhere near Kent I think Bedgebury have whyte 901s as their hire bikes. I had to hire one the other day because my normal bike was out of action. I thought it was a lovely ride and I’m used to the fairly comfy armchair of an ibis mojo

I once had a colnago with carbon rear triangle. Foolishly locked it via rear triangle with a heavy duty D lock. They simply cut the carbon. Like a knife through butter (I could see the filings…).

Still waiting to see the front part and all the ultegra running gear up for sale!

So are Curtis pretty good and doing post build tweaks etc? Could indeed be the dream choice…

    ibnchris

Yeah, that’s right. Should have checked etc but still pretty unimpressed and expect the freewheel knackered too. Haven’t had time to investigate. Won’t be using it again. The irony is I was only using them because I felt sorry for them because I’d heard they might be closing down because of the other, better, shop. Who I don’t much like because they’re arrogant…but at least they know what they’re doing. Explains a lot

Out of interest, how long have you had it? Mine is playing up too. Do they offer a long term warranty? Mine is about 4 years old. Weird thing happened over the weekend where it just didn’t recognise I had OS maps. Bit of a shame when you’re in the peaks with no paper maps (piss poor planning I know!)
