    Bikmo,

They usually require the insured to take unreasonable or unlikely precautions, lock your 7kg bike with a 2kg lock etc. Terms that are obviously designed to repudiate the most likely claims.

Your policy may be different, publish the terms or pm them to me, there’s definitely a market for a half decent policy.

(Standalone policies btw, bike geeks constitute such a small proportion of the general population for it not to be seen as a risk on mass market contents insurance).

Niickc has it for me , once you’ve ticked all the usual boxes it’s just a case of easing back for a few minutes.

Great to prove a point to people.

I dont think hes proving a point just riding what hes got.

Have fun choosing and riding your new bike.

I have yet to find a bike only insurance scheme with terms and condictions that bore close scrutiny and remained good value.

I have three modules (computing/networks/business) which were about £300 each, the price has now quadrupled in England so unless I move the Wales or Scotland thall be it.

I find Luganos ok, a bit weary for the sort of miles im doing at the moment but ok for a more occasional rider.

Seperate the stringy bits, roast them in the oven and smoke in rolled up izal.

    Popular in the 70’s.

One other thing, my mate is currently clocking up 50+ mile rides at 20+mph on a croix de fer built up with 29er parts and 35mm marathons.

God help us when he gets something carbon but it does support the “its not about the bike” argument.

If I was buying again I would be looking for an oversize headtube and full carbon fork on the spec.
Modern bikes seem to allow for a wide range fitment, I have two road bikes different sizes but the bars, seat and pedals are in the same place on both.
Colour and styling is importnat to me I like a bike thats pleasing to look at.
Ride handling is a difficult one, I can usually discount a bike on a short test ride due to its angles or more likely because it has a short top tube(latest tricross for example).

The frame qualities I would look for are- a stiff non flexy bottom bracket and removal of that energy sapping road chatter you get at speed on bad road surfaces which is difficult to gauge on a short ride.

Also factor in for some new wheels(basic fulcrums or mavics) as the OE ones are invariably rubbish.

Having said all that the £999 giant defy alu sl was a the best bike for buck I spotted when doing the rounds recently.
Versatile too with well hidden mounts for racks and guards which you may not want now, but never say never.

A bit sportier is a the Allex sport also in aluminium(with some fancy welding) but with a full carbon fork and 105 for £1200 very light.

If you can beg borrow or steal a bit more cash then the new Cervellos look lovely but are around 2k.

Great idea (despite the op’s attempt to troll it) also as mentioned incentives for driving fast should be made illegal.

All the above are too heavy, I would recommend a dry bag Alpkit do one specifically for the job. If you want stuff to hand wear a jersey with pockets. Honestly no bag is worth 500+ grams.

I had the older version(when it wasnt so old), my willy didnt get any bigger, I was permanently skint and everyone thought I was drug dealer.

On the up side very few people tailgated me and occasionally other boys/ men would admire it.

If I owned one now I would swap it for 19k anyday.

Not sure of the brand 10speed racer with the chain on one cog and derallier removed. It had cow horns and grips like ergon now charge 30 quid for.

Not sure of the year 78 maybe everyone else had choppers.

Robin- tempted to concede the point but it’s against the rules so I will suggest that perfectly good cars have been available with under £180 tax per year for longer than most people will run cars( only 20% of cars are over 10 yrs old).

So it may not be sensible to sell them now but it was also the act of a loon to buy them in the first place.

I’ll let you google car tax rate history if you don’t mind.

    Isn’t pre 2001 – £270 ?
That would be the exception to my loon criteria.

    Not following you tr.

Do you mean £2/3/400 a year on tax is a small proportion if your paying £500 a month on finance and a similar amount on fuel?

Suppose that would be true but still qualify someone as a loon in my book, conceded not in everyone’s though.

I dont smell bad and wash my kit when it looks dirty which isnt that often.
Its presently hanging on the back on the bathroom door post two back to back 100+ milers (and probably a few rides before that) and theres no complaints. Anyone local is more than welcome to pop round and have a sniff.

Not suprising the world running out of everything with you lot going wash crazy.

Kin ovens….that’s been this months unplanned expense. Had a similar problem with a Lofra dual fuel which stopped warming fully then starting tripping the RCD.

A family gathering this weekend meant it had to be replaced. I hope to fix the Lofra though so will watch this thread for tips it has more elements than a chemistry class though so may need a pro.

    I would challenge that charge.

Im with a company from the same group as Churchill and the amendment fee is £16.

The end of contract terms do seem a bit sharp and reduce the saving but are clear and there for all to see.

Why should everyone pay for a few who make amendments.

Just don’t think anyone can justify £75 to cancel a policy and i.e. £50 as quoted above just to change an address.

Those seem high and don’t get me wrong I don’t particularly like it either but they do have justify them to the FCA before there charged.

Btw on the subject of using the ombudsman, they will expect anyone registering a complaint with them to have given the company an fair opportunity to have dealt with a complaint first.

    Devils advocacy hat on…

The amount charged by insurers is regulated already.

People buy the cheapest product on price comparison websites, a lower up front price can be achieved by removing exceptional costs and if one company does that they all will to remain competitive.

Why should everyone pay for a few who make amendments.

    …Devils hat off.

My advice would be read the small print on any contract you get into.
