I would put 28mm on a tripster, they’ll be more versatile than the smaller sizes and 99.9% of you keeping up or not will be in the engine.

You’ll soon wear out spd shoes if your walking a distance in them everyday. How about some road shoes and pedals and a pair of pumps slip on for the walk?

Genuinely didn’t mean to push so many buttons, have great time riding your bikes.

Neal., you sound a little on edge this evening, there no hate, I won’t be losing sleep over it and you can wear what you want. I could add more points but there’s no big plan I just saw someone on a great looking road bike with all the mountain bike gear, it look odd.

If I could post a picture I bet most would agree.

Ok calm down you lot, it’s not a personal affront just a suggestion. If your going to buy a beautiful racing bike why sit on it with Khaki baggies, peaked helmet, the seat too low and camelback.

It’s just aesthetically jarring, have a bit of style please.

Road are much tighter (spd/spdsl) and a bit more difficult to get in but I’ve grown to prefer them.

Through Garmin connect- connect 800- upload files- manual upload- select gpx, it will save it as an activity. Open the activity- save as course and usually rename- send to device- select 800- done.

Sounds complicate but it will take seconds the second time.

Green for me, tbh I don’t agree with some of their stuff and they do look like you would expect but the other options are worse.

I do however understand why people would vote UKIP and think it just shows what a bunch of corporate lackeys the red and blue eton boys have become.

Personally I would rather have £300 than any of those bikes.

Tell her to save another few quid and take a look at Pauls cycles for something actually worth owning and won’t put of bikes for life.

I’ll haggle in any shop that sells something for double the cost elsewhere.

I didn’t know this was a frequent topic of discussion but genuinely I was in my local store recently and heard a small boy “mother, oh mother please can we have another round of Camembert?” . It then I knew I was a long way from home.

You can argue it had Xt Gears or whatever upgrades and subject to somekind of proof youll be on IME.

As with any claim though I would read terms and understand what exactly you are entitled to before you contact the insurer.

The added fitness during the bits of your time when your not cycling means the net effect is likely to prolong your life

prolong your life yes but my figures were specifically for cancer. While cycling may or may not have an effect on cancer I think its far more likely to prevent heart disease and strokes etc

Sorry chap, I didn’t make my point very well and was timed out on the edit.

What I hoped to convey was that actually some kind of road traffic accident is the most likely cause of death for a great deal of our lives.
Something like between the ages of 7/8/9yr old when we start to venture out to our early fifties when other age related causes start to take over the most common reason for death is getting squished in some kind of traffic accident.

Its as much to do with an absence of other reasons as it is risky lifestyle although the impulsive nature of youth particularly males means they do take more risks than others would consider wise.

All that said, I cycle everyday because the alternative (zombie car worship) is worse.

    Keep on pedalling!

Thornton – you need a new fag packet, road cycling has a increases the chance of your life being unnaturally shortened over not cycling all but only whilst actually cycling. The added fitness during the bits of your time when your not cycling means the net effect is likely to prolong your life.

Anyway I feel a little thanks every time I get home sometimes subconsciously which is a lot of thanks after 8000 road km a year .

I haven’t ridden the garden of England route but it starts in Greenwich works it’s way through the outskirts of London then onto Dover and Folkstone, all very busy areas and whilst some of it may be traffic free paths there usually the bits you end up missing out of sustrans routes so it won’t all be and the roads even in fairly rural Kent are busy IME often with fairly aggressive commuter traffic. It’s just a much more densely populated area.

For good or bad not many London (car) commuters get as far as Norfolk or even Suffolk, to put that in perspective on a recent ride in the first 40 km from my door (admittedly on a Sunday morning) I saw one moving car, short of going to Scotland, East Anglia is about as good as road cycling gets in the UK.

OP – I think you need to do them both and report back, happy to send you some GPS files or Garmin links.

I have the Carradice SQR Slim. Holds a pump pretty comfortably

A 1000g bag with a 500g bracket would seem like a fairly ridiculous way to carry a 80g tyre pump.

I have a Carradice Barley, never found an occasion when it was the right bag for the job, unused 50% of retail if anyone’s interested.

From the label of the recovery drink- per serving (300ml) 12g carbs, 20g Protein, 1g Fat, 4g Creatine. Milkshakes are probably similar carbs but I wouldn’t have thought as much protein.

Take a look at the ferry at Reedham, it avoids that Gt Yarmouth funnel.

Whilst acknowledging the default “don’t waste your money” view of buying something ready made, they are more convenient.
I’ve started having recovery-50/50 carb and protein shakes after long rides. You can get the same out of a meal but a shake takes 60 seconds to prepare and will stop you raiding the biscuit tin to get the hit you need.

Don’t think there’s much between the brands, you can have straight protein ( bodybuilder stuff), protein carb mix ( recovery ) and sometimes they mix stuff like creatine in there, dunno what that does.

I was sceptical but now I like em.

You’ll have less traffic in Norfolk – Suffolk. The coastal route is very nice, even better if you avoid Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft by coming inland and using the chain ferry.

    IanW

The Norfolk – Suffolk tour will have less traffic and can miss out the towns with a bit of planning, nice route.

Despite the powerful lobby groups here in the UK there will be more and more regulation of motorised traffic, lead by the strong Green Party contingent of our European Parliament.

I suppose there is also an argument to regulate cyclist too because whilst the consequences of stupidly on a bike may be different the cause(****) is the same and the more people you prise out of cars the more likely people on bikes become an annoyance.

The answer IMO is somewhere in RichMtb’s post, why is driving a car and riding a bike so different in France and Spain than it is in the UK?

Why doesn’t the person who vandalised this stand for Parliament with his ideas and see if they stand up to scrutiny.
That would be lovely – if Parliament was democratic. In reality unless you work your way up through the ranks of one of the main parties, you’re very unlikely to become an MP. Then, if you do become a MP, you’re reliant on your party whips, and in return you have to toe the party line.

So in reality the only ideas which get to be scrutinised in Parliament are ideas that are already approved of in Parliament.

    +1

This weeks question time was perfect example, you have Grant Shapps, and Chuka Umunna both of whom look completely untrustworthy making Nigel Farage and Caroline Lucas at least look like they believe their own words.

No special equipment it’s only riding a bike.
Trainers, Jeans/Shorts, T-Shirt/Jersey, Baseball cap to deflect sun/rain. Clip on mudguards if it looks like being wet. Lights if dark.
Beetroot and Spinach salad with either Chicken or Tuna protein.
Wallet, keys, phone and occasional change of shirt.

What is with everyone dissing road brakes, I have to slacken mine(105) to avoid skiddage and such.

Op- clean the rims, clean the blocks, as much movement in the lever as possible without it hitting the bar. Set the brakes up so the block is slighlty pointing in towards the front and all of the pad meets the braking surface.

I read somewhere recently that being impulsive is the characteristic most likely to make you financially poor.

BTW the properly rich folk I know tend to have crap cars, something fancy is usually a status symbol/self reward for the nouveau riche or or on credit.

Most 58’s should fit someone 6’1″+, don’t forget to include pedals, shoes, bibs, a couple of bottles, a pair of glasses and a jersey(sky if your feeling ard) into your budget.

Ps the wheels will be crap on just about anything, £150 on some mavic or fulcrum wheels will give you the equivalent of a 2k bike.
