This is a rather confusing thread – you went to buy a shorter stem because you feel too stretched , didn’t buy the stem but came to the conclusion the frame was too small and you need one that would achieve the same as buying a longer stem for the frame you already own albeit at 60x the cost.

    Mmm?

Went there in 1990, I recall kids with no legs pushing themselves along on skateboards and bears on chains. Don’t remember any bike hire.

Lots of riders choose to have smaller frames than the size charts, difference between a large (560) and XLarge (580) could be made up with a stem.

Both me and a riding buddy reported one last weekend, aggressive overtaking 20 metres before a red light, horn sounding, wheel spinning, second aggressive overtaking followed by brake slamming, he then parked up got out of the car hoping for an argument but we rode past and gold him to grow up. Predictably big fat bugger in a football shirt slbiet with a new niceish car, private plate K13 MAS White Mondeo in Woodbridge if anyone’s interested.
TBH I just feel sorry for him just another unhappy frustrated middle age bloke.
Anyway plod went through the motions made some consolatory noises and that was it.

My untrained web answer is hyper mobility, it’s a degree of play in your joints that comes in handy for doing bendy stuff but can lead to excess wear and is often accompanied by clicking.

How do I know this, I hear you say?

I did a long sponsored walk in Scotland ( Cal Challenge) several years ago it left my knees pretty sore so I went to a Physio. He gave me some exercise to both trigger core muscles into action and strengthen them. Worked a treat and I still use them occasionally.
A clicking hip was part of the diagnosis for me, it itself causes no detriment though and I am in every other way a man of steel. As above, see a Physio do some exercise and don’t worry.

I really like Mavic Aksiums as do it all wheels. I have three sets now(long story) which have used since 2006 and gone from 110kg to now under 90kg but throughout have used them off road, commuting, weekend rides etc. Even recently took a hotly contested dirt track KOM( due to a tailwind) with them and 23mm tyres, they are IME tough.

Throw away the tyres that come with them though, there the devils work.

Edit: just noticed your budget, quite a lot for a commuter but if you did want to spend that and considering your largess perhaps some 32h handbuilts.

Cheers everyone, thanks for all your opinions and some good advice.

Needless to say its a great job that I really want do which will probably override all the other stuff.

Ive driven the road many times with the present job but not had to do it each day, major a road between two towns. Basic office hours but flexible enough I could start/finish either side traffic peaks.

The practicalities are covered its the lifestyle issue thats a concern.

Off Topic (a bit), Mickey Rooney’s also died today.

He seemed to be going on longer than most have any right good for him, still they’ll be good company in the entertainers queue.

This isn’t a climbers course, the last competitive stage is a time trial and the one before that a flat stage. I don’t think anyone’s “afraid” but could BW have been in the GC mix perhaps by virtue of a supporting role within the team going into that last stage it would require only a solo effort.

I don’t think that’s the reason though, there’s just too much I’ll feeling between those guys to work effectively that should have been sorted by now.

It will interesting when Sky does make a statement but until then I’m feeling a downer on the event. The only thing that doesn’t sit quite right is BW calm acceptance, if I were him I would be checking my contract.

In comparable dimensions a traditional Turkish towel will take up no more space than a modern travel one.

I’ve used them quite a bit and never found much difference between brands. Having said that I actually prefer Turkish bath towels as travel towels.

Remembering Bradley’s post race interview from the tour of California he expected to be in the TDF and given his age and present form expect he’s pissed off right now as am I as a cycling fan looking forward to seeing the best riders compete.
The decision will have been joint DB and CF and regardless of the strategy it means I now hope Team Sky gets dumped early doors preferably in some humiliating fashion.

Ive had an A4 for quite a few years, now need another second car but cant find anything thats better than the old A4 except a new A4.

Closest was a Mazda with a very nice 2.2D engine, loads of buttons and gadgets in that usual japanese style.

Probably go for another A4/6 though.

Whilst recognising his statement is intended to get a load of forums chattering about the now infamaous Mr Loophole.

This type of statement and the Helmet/Hi Viz evangelists just serve to reinforce the view that “outside” is in some way a dangerous place best avoided by sane people and only to be negotiated with special equipment.

At the risk of providing a predictably STW answer I find just about any saddle is OK until Im **** at which point just about any saddle is torture.

Hence you should get an reasonably acceptable saddle then MTFU.

edit: Hora its a short but well worn step between bibs under baggies and full lycra, denial is often part of the journey but the outcome is inevitable.

    Interesting thread.

My boys 18 full time education, works part time earning about £100 a week. His free time is spent skating( which is also his job) or doing whatever boys do in a bedroom full of super computers. His room is like some IBM workshop with bit coin mining and stuff going on. I would like him to contribute his mum says no.

Genuinely not wanting to start the usual but I reckon clear glasses are more beneficial than a helmet. Rarely ride without them, b&q safety glasses being the choice at the moment.

My experience aligns with Jameso’s posts.
I believe steady rides without breakfast helped me shift some weight last year, I did and do carry a gel or two though in case the ride turns out quicker than expected.

Thanks all, some good suggestions perhaps too good Im not sure there would be much cycling going on with a mountain view and a hot tub in competition!

Richard those are the primary climbs were looking to include the difficulty seems to be(based on google research) putting them into circular routes that don’t involve main roads and tunnels.

Would you say the main roads are a problem and difficult to avoid ?

Tyrannosaur did it for me but it may help if you grew up in that kind of dump. Another not at all arty though is Notebook which I suppose some would consider a bit mainstream but I found it really upsetting, why do girls like watching that stuff?

The only reason speeding doesnt directly cause more harm is because people have steadily come to consider “outside” as a hazardous place to be avoided if at all possible.
