/\ this.. Your car is a letter about to meet an email.

The car as we know it now will soon be gone, within the lifetime of most readers of this forum cars will be self driving appliances. This will remove the need for ownership, you’ll be hiring your ICar with a swipe of debit card.

Biggest problem will be how will people establish their social status without a car?

Last year I test rode loads of bikes, the TCR was probably the best, didn’t buy one because I couldn’t get past the boring looks.

Not sure there’s actually much difference between any of the carbon frames, get one that fits and looks nice to you. There all pretty good just decide how flexible you are and get a head tube to suit.

Please don’t put mudguards on it, buy a hack for that or a bike that’s supposed to have them.

Garmin edge 200 or 500 from handtec or actually halfords seem pretty good, use this with garmin connect and / or strava.

Use the actual v average display to push up your average and strava to woop all local ass. You will be a cycling god in two months.

Probably needs it’s own thread really but yet another incident involving a lorry and cyclist.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-23207691

That does sound really sad and possibly another asz left turn incident.

You are blaming the cyclists for being irresponsible, in doing so excuses the driver for hitting them.

That’s wrong, there is no excuse.

Views like this /\ are worse than the careless driving that is killing people who choose not to get about by car.

You mdavids are a plum of the first degree, well meaning Im sure but light of thought without a doubt.

The blaming of victims for getting in the way of cars in this thread reveals the real challenge, its not the petrol heads or commerce its the presumption even by those sympathetic to bike that out of control cars and trucks have a divine right to roads and the rest of should just keep out of the way.

We could do that, it would start with dual carriageways, then a roads, then b roads, then bridleways, until theres nothing left.

Honestly im struggling to believe some of the twaddle written in this an other recent threads is from a cyclists. More likely pobs who have come across this site. Anyone with any miles wouldn’t talk such absolute tosh.

Ref insurance and serial numbers- not sure why your insurer would ask for that, it wouldn’t help anyone or prove anything if your bike was stolen , there’s no bike database. Possibly could be used for accidental damage but most insurers don’t check anything under a few grand, costs more than its worth to do.

I would also read the terms those bike policies often have dodgy clauses, must be locked even when at home etc and are worse than just being covered under the sum insured of contents policy.

Away from home usually the same , must be attended or locked with a 2kg lock which may be ok for commuting but a bit impractical if its a piece of sports equipment.

Anyway good luck with the bike fwiw I like the boardmans and halfords!

Edit: just read the bit about insurers dodging claims, sure it feels like that, you have bought a contract, when its my money I read through the terms before i buy and read it again before I claim, that way there’s no misunderstandings.

Was in halfords the other day. Stood in the queue listening to guy new to cycling talking to an assistant.

Thought, the customer hasn’t a clue what he’s buying and the assistant didn’t know what he was selling , it’ll end in tears.

There’s a saying- “you can’t put a price on life” unfortunately you can and it seems the price of several thousand lives every year is less than the value of a mobile workforce and cheap transportation of goods is to our economy.

There’s numbers in that equation somewhere not sure what they are.

Cycling clubs hey, they do seem to cause a lot of handbags.

Keep it simple and theres no problem.

What mrmo said only with less exclamation marks!

Poly- You shouldnt blame the victim, they were doing what they had every right to do.

Usually(difficult to be specific to this case) the hazard starts and ends with the car,van truck, bus etc, the person driving it and the way we encourage risk taking without consequences.

Gone from Virgin to BT. Virgin really annoyed me with their crap customer service took them 10 years though but then the penny pinching really became clear.

Word is BT are likely to be just as bad, however so far they have been good and the hardware, bandwidth(fibre optic) are both way better than virgin could muster.

Also really like the controls on the hub which mean I can set access times for the various ipads, pc, laptops etc makes managing kids access to the web much less stressful.

Its the human condition to look after number one, these incidents will happen until theres proper consequences for careless or negligent behaviour.

Recently lost ~12kg and gone from being obese to just plain fat, perhaps being kind, no one I explain my weight loss to believes I was ever obese. I was though and feel much healthier now.

All I have done is stop eating the food I grew up being told was good for me- spuds and pies and stop eating the food they is heavily advertised- chocolate and biscuits etc and stopped eating any food unless I was actually hungry.

I seem to have cured myself of obesity perhaps I can sell it to the NHS.

Seems a troll is anyone called one by someone they disagre with, an easy accusation for those desperate to win a online debate.

It was rolled out recently by a journalist for our local rag after he got mullered in a online debate, obviously didn’t like a two way discussion.

Scrap it..I’ll pop around and pick it up this afternoon.

Or do it yourself, there’s nothing on the list you can’t learn how to do from the Internet or probably could achieve with a bit of common sense/help from mates etc. if not then as above £200 quid is reasonable for some parts and a few hours of anyone’s time who can do something you can’t.

Heard of him, seen the pictures, knew students and councils like to name things after him. Knew he was in prison, knew he was a political activist.

Didn’t know if he was in the right place at the right time or the genuine catalyst for positive change. Willing to listen to all opinions, even yours.

Thought it was reasonable question by the op , I opened up this thread expecting to be educated as I must admit I don’t really know either.

Instead there seems to be a load of people calling the op names but not actually able answer the question.

I would (and did) move to a better area for my kids, not just schooling though and not just for the kids. Why wouldn’t you?

You don’t need to use the school excuse to move to a nicer area.

Had this today, I was the car on the opposite side though and had to brake hard enough for the abs to kick in.

Not seeing is the most common reason quoted for accidents. Personally as well as the cu next Tuesdays who use it as an excuse, I am sure some drivers purposely look away or into the distance when faced with a cyclist, its almost like there trying to convince themselves they didn’t see you.

Answers not education or awareness etc its just to start prosecuting people properly with proper punishments for shit drivers, wont happen whilst there’s an economy that relays on putting half wits in cars, trucks, buses.

Your life is valuable but not as valuable as a mobile workforce.

Agreed on the Despicable Me 2.

Watched it yesterday, my family and it seemed the whole cinema was in raptures, best 3d I ever seen in a film as well.

Not sure its better than the Godfather, apples and pears, but its a very good movie.

Beautiful bikes don’t happen by accident , take it back be clear and specific or learn to do it yourself and take care.

Oldgit- that is a very nice looking bike.

had a similar thing with a local bus, the driver would partially overtake me just prior to stopping and pull in each time trapping between the bus and the curb.

Happpened about three time as ovetook then stopped bus on the third time i pulled up to his window and asked why he kept trying to kill me with his bus.

The driver threw a punch out of the window.

I reported him, they didnt seem too intrested but I didnt see him anymore and have ridden the route daily since.

As always there are a lot of thick c*** humans about, some of them end up in charge of vehicles.

    Report it, forget it.
