No it wouldn’t, it’s not law and cyclist cycling is not holding up traffic. That guideline is intended for motorists parking in such a way as to hold up other traffic.

I get held up most morning by cars blocking the roads, very frustrating but i dont resort to dangerous behaviour, i pity them sitting in their boxes wasting their lives getting fat and diseased.

Your arguments are weak, shallow and naive.

Regulate and limit people riding bikes? Get a grip you idiot.

Hundreds of people riding unmarshalled is daft it holds a lot of people up and can lead to traffic trying to force its way past .I was going in the other direction and had to watch cars squeezing cyclists to the edge of the road as they were frustrated .IMO they are accidents waiting to happen .Maybe people should be sent of in much smaller waves according to ability to lesen the impact.

By the way dont call me an idiot

Does frustration excuse criminality, endangering people?

This chaos, does is it kill thousands of people each year, poison thousands more, block our roads every day and cause personal misery to those living nearby. Does it contribute to the nation turning into blobby balls of fat whom go on to consume my tax by burdening the nhs.

Or is it a few people making the first steps to more active live style?

Strange logic above, had a faulty new turbo so wouldn’t use a rebuild?!

Anyway, I had the turbo go on my a4(I know) last year and was ready to get rid of the car but I really like that car and stands at nothing so thought I would change it myself.

After a bit of advice on here and from a few mechanic friends I bought a recon turbo from AET Turbos in Wakefeild they were no were near the cheapest but they looked pro and came recomended. From memory it was about £600 give or take few quid and something back for the old one, they also were really helpful with advice.

Fitted it with a new feed pipe cleaned out all the intercooler pipes, new oil filters etc , actually really enjoyed doing it in the end. My gf has been using it since, put about 10k on it probably all in third gear at 4k revs, no problem so far.

    is it a good event?

Last year was my first, I thought it was great, good vibe in London, then increasingly deserted roads as you get further out and it gets later in the evening. It was particularly good weather too, not quite as warm as this year but a tailwind which will unfortunately be a headwind this year.

If you live in London I would agree cycle back to ipswich get the train from there, for me it’s the reverse though so start with a train to Liverpool st, short hop to Hackney fields, cycle to Dunwich then back to Woodbridge and home.

Very sociable riding through the night, you see just about every kind of bike and cyclist. I’m a beardy geezer on a black and red Bianchi say hello.

Haha .. I don’t mind being overtaken on the commute, maybe I should get my testosterone checked. I like to feel its encouraging the mtb/hybrid mob to enjoy cycling and maybe do it more.

As in the car I always stop at lights during the day, when someone else is about and waiting doesn’t seem utterly ridiculous. Commuter racing- never do it, get out on an evening and weekend for that sort of thing, I try to avoid sweating on the commute.

At least there interested enough to turn up. If it was the UK we would have seats sold to corporate nobbers and security keeping everyone else away.

I replace all the fixings with 4 or 5mm (or possibly 5 and 6) hex head bolts, then just carry two small keys.

DrP- There will always be exceptions whether real or constructed for the purpose of argument.

The point I am making is taking your kids to school by car should not be seen as the norm, it isnt. Not just for me but for the vast majority of parents who have been taking kids to school with me other the last 3 kids and 15 years.

Not really one up manship either by the normal measures, cars, houses, jobs etc as I have probably comprimised on them all by putting a bit more emphasis on life balance..

Even in your example, your wife has a choice in her career path, it may have been clear cut I wouldnt argue one way or another on the net, but its still a choice.

Good to here your trim btw :), sure you dont need reminding that too is becoming the exception.

Lots of people have to work.
Lots of people have to work in places that are not their child’s school.
Lots of people have to drop their children off at the school while they are in the process of travelling to work.

They have no choice in we’re they work, live or take their kids to school or how they get between those places?
You give over making excuses for fatties who can’t get out of their cars.

Funny thing with cars as status symbols is they dont point you out as rich, often more aspirational.

Most of the properly rich people I know seem to drive around in battered old Peugouts or similar.

So as said before, its leasing when you pay for the difference between new and resale, people getting hocked up usually with the cars previously leased and there are rather annoyingly quite a lot of people out there who earn six figures or have done well in property, investments or inheritence.

Buggers..eh, mind due we all like a car that start, stops has a good radio and the aircon works.

A car is used as a display of social status though, so if you need a boost buy a car on tic.

It seems like the combination of the weather and the crc sale has brought ’em all out in force. This mornings commute, which normally only sees the odd fellow cyclist, was instead a sea of badly fitting storm trooper fancy dress, and gleaming, never-seen-a mountain, overweight mid-life-crisis, full sussers.

I hope it stops equally as quickly as it started. There’s nothing more unpleasant of a morning, than having to repeatedly overtake them as they wobble around carrying sufficient gear to survive a near apocolypse whilst cycling down the down the high st to the local woods. Bleeuuuurgh!

There is some consolation I suppose. Smiling and nodding enthusiastically at the ones heading the other way. To be studiously ignored with that fixed-straight-ahead, oh-so-serious, totally joyless “cant you see Iam serious” look on the faces. Like they’re not extracting a single molicule of enjoyment out of the whole experience.

Please make it stop! The sooner golf is the new golf, the better IMHO

There you go..as if there arent enough groups for cyclists to fall out with we need to practice on ourselves.

What if i am injured and unable to work due to an accident?

Not covered by british cycling ride membership.

what if i damage someones car by hitting it?

    Yep, you’ll get that.

what if they damage my bike by hitting me? etc etc

Their insurance, should you catch em, have witnesses.

    Davidisaacs-

I was looking at more from a safety point of view than compliance with the local regs.

The carrier I use is more like the one pictured above than the towbar designs. Mostly the number plate is visible, although accasionally not, depending on which bikes are on the back, whats on the roof and how carefully I have loaded them.

Either way, as you point out if you meet the wrong officer its going to cost whatever detail you can argue.

Reg boards sound like a good idea.

Nice looking business you have there btw and a lovely place by all accounts.

Simalar case last year- four witnesses who’s statements said it looked on intentional. Took 10 months to get a court date, failing to stop was dropped before attendance in exchange for an admision of careless driving 3points-£30 fine.

Fairly pointless process really, maybe creating a record for the driver, thats about it.

Up to 6 months ago I would have said SPD’s are fine for all bikes. However I bought some SPDsl’s and am now convinced of there improved function when on the bike at least. Tougher to clip in, out and less pleasant to walk on but much more connected when your peddling.

I ride Harwich to Norfolk variations on the ncn 1 most weekends, you are unlikely to find better cycling roads in the uk, occasionally potholed, often sandy but no problem for carbon and 23 mm. Doubt it’s much different that bit further north.

Depends how fast you want to go, stick to the ncn for virtually traffic free or pop on to an B road for crunching the miles.

Thought it was ok, mtb bit was bit boring but otherwise good. Bikes to work guy is a great bit of advocacy.

I could be better with more pro production and maybe a cockish presenter ala top gear but then it would have a cockish presenter ala top gear.

The jam bo plan will work but you may not loose any weight or gain anything other than the ability to jog 5k. I would combine it with the nielsonwheels plan a garmin strava and a bit less starch. That’ll do it.
