Paying £42 per month to BT for fibre optic and the phone line and £36 to Sky for the TV. Happy with both services but seems I may be overpaying.

Too many gaps in the report to draw any kind of conclusion, is there an actual report somewhere with numbers and definitions for how the measurements ae taken on the different countries?

Very doable through the Sandling Forests of Dunwich, Tunstall and Rendlesham. Now all you need is someone (sane) willing to give up three months of their year organising it, getting little thanks and no reward.

Fed up with having roads where I live dominated by people in cars who don’t live here…time for that to stop?

Saw one in Evans, London Bridge last week, looked good in the flesh, all the mounts you could want, loads of clearance and good spec.
They didnt seem overly long though with a large being about right for me @180cm.
Incredibly wide bars for that type of bike though and the reviews dont look that great but IMO there usually guff.

On the last point btw I have now had three bikes on cyclesheme and yet to pay a final payment.

Best car I ever drove sportingly was a TR7 which I borrowed from a friend and spent the evening doing laps around Pudsey St Lawrence cricket ground.

I highly recommend one of those and that circuit.

I know Schwalbes have a good following but in use I have alway found them really fragile. I’ve had a few sets not sure which now from memory, rockets, racing, ron, ralph and on the road luganos and duranos/ durano plus, but had blow outs galore everywhere from thetford to Wales and the road tyres seem to wear really quickly.

Go for Maxxis now High roller/Larsen/the other fast one cant remember its name and Continental gp4000, 4 season on road.

    There good.

Even now I have nightmares about Cotter pins, they are the single most worst piece of cycling related engineering ever.

Looking for a new commuter now and toying with discs but the the advantages will be out weighed by the having three bikes on 10 speed rim brakes.

Under what circumstances would someone have to win for the STW experts not think they are doping? .

Test rode loads of bikes last year, the Defy was by some margin the comfiest. It was a M/L which is a 56 I think and the usual size for me at 180cm.

Preferred the TCR which was also comfortable but I felt a bit more “in” rather than “on” the bike.

Having said all that In the end I went for neither and bought something that else altogether.

Tests are fairly pointless it seems when all the experts around here have made up their minds.

There was a young lady speaking after the interview this post refers to who seem to put forward a more balanced view. (Women’s Hour)

She was representing a muslim body(not sure which) and said their study had shown women wear the traditional veils for a variety of reasons: Religious, Conformity and also often family pressure, but that in her opinion the Koran did not obligate women to cover up.

She also suggested this particular young women in court now was an exception and most people would not mind removing a veil and that in fact she was just being stubborn to make a point and doing more harm than good.

Personally I’m with the French on this one.

Been to Turkey once & loved it.

Why go back twice more if you didn’t like it…?

I asked myself that after the last time.

The holidays have been over 20 some years with different partners who’ve all wanted to go there. First was Olu Deniz sometime in the 90’s it was ok unlike now there wasn’t much there. No where near as nice as some of the Greek islands I was also visiting at that time. Girlfriend got sick, I nearly drown trying to help someone else who was drowning and the nearest town was full of bears on chains and kids with no legs.

Second time was a.forgettable week in bod rum circa 2000.

Last time was a pretty expensive family holiday to a 5 star( but not really) all inclusive place near Side, it was all set up to make it difficult to take advantage of the all inclusive aspect and the place was full of Russians who are the new South Africans when it comes to unpleasant to be around.

Having said all that I have friends who absolutely love it there and would move or at least buy a place in a flash. Suppose you have to go and make you own mind up.

Night riding on the road is great just like night riding mtb.

If anything though there’s more advantages. You get that same focus but there’s less traffic and any that is about is easily spotted due to there lights meaning you can be a bit more confident around the corners and spot cars way in advance of daytime conditions.

Personally I like exposure lights because they’ve served me well across dozens of night rides. Do a few then do next years Dunwich Dynamo , still the bet UK cycling event IMO.

It was an nhs site which quoted 1530 ish calories per day for a 7 year old and believe the nutrional info uses the 2000 calories recomended for a female adult as the basis of its proportions.

I’m on a tablet now so can’t (be arsed to) find the exact reference, tbh that it was 75% slightly surprised me, expected it to be less.

Other references recomended nil added sugar or a figure repeated by several american organisations was 6 teaspoons per day for an adult female. FS is five in one serving.

    More fruitshootism…

So a bit more research (googling) reveals:

The RDA usually quoted in labelling for sugars is around 90grams per day for an adult, that includes the complex sugars found in your bread and fruit etc. It can come from simple added sugar found in fruit shoots and sweets but theres no actual need for any of that stuff at all.

So Britvic’s claim of 10g being 10% of the daily allowance is misrepresenting the truth to quite a degree. (it is the law to quote by 100ml/g but most responsible manufacturers also quote serving, unless they have something to hide). The 10% is also an adults allowance..sort of although nobody adult or child needs any of the type of sugar in this product.

Based on 90grams for an adult the RDA for a 7yr old is 68gram(75%) and one serving @ 23g of sugar is 34% of an RDA but thats an RDA that should actually be used consuming fruit and stuff that just happens to have sugar in it but also has lots of other good stuff.

All round a really scummy product, with marketing obviously designed to deceive.

I’m trying to encourage my kids to do something they will enjoy and give them the freedom to make those kind of choices.

For me, I didn’t really have many options, I was looking after myself by 15 so the jobs chose me not the other way round.

Having said that it’s worked out ok. I’ve actually now worked in the motor industry for 30 years in one way or another and whilst recently that’s been for a big corporation. The work is interesting (Telematics) I have good degree of freedom and feel reasonably well rewarded.

Given a choice I would be a painter (pictures not your ceiling) but maybe it would spoil a hobby by making it a career.

I took the 23g from wikipedia but thats intresting Britvic should choose to use per 100ml rather per bottle and also I wonder if those rda’s are for children or adults?

If there adults it means that one bottle is in the region of 50% a childs rda of sugar.(if there actually is a recomended amount?)

They are slippery feckers you see.

Fruit shoots were the subject of a C4 documentry recently.
I didnt like them beforehand, mostly because I’m tight but secondly after tasting one I realised just how mega strong they are.
It’s the subtle marketing “fruit” shoot that makes you think there ok but actually there pretty much the same as coke or whatever.

I only started taking an interest in this stuff whilst losing weight myself, the outcome of much reading on the subject is that sugar is the cause of the problem. The stuff is everywere, very difficult to avoid especially in foods marketed at kids and it is the problem not fats or lack of exercise.

Heres a link to some TED talks, its a bit long winded but the Lustig one “Sugar: The Bitter Truth” is worth ago.

If you have time I would also recomend the Albert Bartlett one on population growth and my favourite Amy Cuddy on body language, not sure what its about but I could watch her all day.

My kids love water, the fridge is full of it nicely chilled. Sometimes they make it up with squash. Mostly without though, my daughters school doesnt even allow any kind of fruit juice, they can only have water. They all look pretty happy.

BTW Fruit shoots have 23g of sugar in each bottle thats around 5 teaspoons in each of thos dinky little bottles.

They are a cheap sugary product cynically marketed at kids.

They have to get in as well as out.

And they get in and out when its raining, when its windy, or snowing or all of those things. When their with friends, when excited, when their upset, when their everything that happens to kids or any combination of the above.

Maybe its not them, its me Im thinking about work, or life or a thread on this forum or whatever. The point of this thread is are really that cars have a value beyond there commodity.

Thats really what Im spending my time deputing.

    In order:

Parking fully on a road thats wide enough to allow cars to pass and only slows down anyone who driving too fast is not inconsiderate.

Its actually an approach to managing speed thats used by many councils. Ive just saved mine the time, money and effort.

In the same thread your referencing, you suggest its ok to park half on a pavement so it allows more people to park on the opposite pavement! That highlights the different places we are coming from on this or any other car related subject.

If I wanted to condone criminal damage, I would say it. I did say you shouldnt be suprised if happens after you piss someone off and thats what I meant.

Iam a motorist, cyclist, pedestrian and parent so whilst the motorist in me can see your point of view, also being the others lets me see your wrong.

    Molegrips-

I used the term obese as opposed to overweight and meant in the sense most of use would recognise as obese.
Kids do go through stages when there “chunky” grow out of it with age.

Theres a difference though, theres kids that are seriously obese to the extent that it stops them participating in activities and probably lowers there self esteem.

I feel sorry for them, almost guilty for my part in the society that lets that happen to so many kids.

retro- do you have a point or just a chirpy gobshite taking a shot at someone who doesnt share your view on life, cars and hopefully most other stuff?

I dont mind the disagreement even sort of expect it from a petrolhead but you really should manage your temper it’ll put you in an early grave, if someone doesnt do it for you first.

The common theme on both those threads is cars parked inconsiderately can expect to get damaged, Im not condoning it, just that its hardly suprising.

Wide parking bays in supermarket- there for 4×4’s arent they?

    IanW

Dont see the overweight as a subspecies, their genetically no different to anyone else.

I do see them(me)as victims of a food industry that spends a lot of money surrounding us with and selling us shit thats bad.

So a bit weak perhaps, but Ive never met someone without one or two weaknesses.

It does however make me angry to see obese kids, that is child abuse.

    IanW

Dings are going to happen, try taking a bunch of kids to a supermarket without them opening a door into the next car.

Malicious damage, keying or mirrors etc has usually happened when I have done something wrong, parked inconsideratly etc.

I could if I cared enough avoid both.
