I have only been skiing a couple of times, the last time was the hill outside Oslo, when it got too dark to Ski, a bunch of cyclists with studded tyres and big lights turned up.

This was before fat bikes but I can’t imagine it makes much difference.

My mate pinch flatted, the first replacement tube blew out the hole. The tyre was fixed with a date packet rapper and a another tube fitted. That was six months ago and it’s run fine on weekly rides ever since.

Ps- You seem to be making navigation difficult, upload a course, select it , start. That’s it.

1. Never maxed it out with rides (activities) that’s after a year of c.8 hours per week. I have had to remove courses that I’ve either downloaded or created in Garmin connect.

2. Not heard of Ubunto, I use a Garmin connect to create routes which is excellent much easier than anything I’ve used before.

3. Never felt the need to charge it whilst riding, my longest ride last year was 8 1/2 hours and charge was not a problem.

4. Again not sure what most of those things are, the arrow navigation is very intuitive and has worked faultlessly to get me and several others around whole day rides at a good speed on unfamiliar roads. Routes plotted in Garmin connect and uploaded as a course.

Other stuff, get a SRAM bar mount it’s much neater than the rubber band type and much cheaper than the other bar types.

Lastly whilst I really like the edge 200 is basically a 500 with features turned off. If I was to buy again I would go for a 500 its worth the extra to have time displayed if nothing else.

Ours broke last week(Bosch) and I much prefer to be without it. Its more hassle to load and unload the thing than get everyone to do a bit and clean up.

I presently have three sets of Aksiums on the go with various tyres and states of wear. There good enough for my abilities and bank balance.

If you do go for some c.£500 factory wheels it may be worthwhile getting from a lbs who will true them or source spokes later down the line. The one I use price matched merlin.

I can relate to the colleague distraction comments, there’s a balance to be had between maintaining productive relationships and too obviously displaying a do not disturb sign.
To use the lingo, knowing your objectives and stakeholders is key to keeping on track.

I have a 2012 Sempre and it’s very nice, didn’t cost 4k though. If I was stuck on that brand and determined to spend big bucks I would be looking at finding a deal on a Oltre.

TBH though your best best is to go around a few local shops try a few bikes and pick the one that feels the best, there’s not many duff carbon bikes about.

It was notable that whilst the NM story was the headline, even after 12 hours it only sneaked in at the bottom of the most read section.

I did four modules a few years ago, it helped me into a new career and I found them interesting. Then, each module was about £300/400. I looked again recently and the prices were c. £1200 if you lived in England and still c.£350 for the rest of the UK.

Seemed a bit of a shame the opportunities just a few modules gave me were not available anymore.

Not sure if it was here or road cc but a little while ago I suggested some PI ads on the basics would bring the biggest benefit for the least cost.

Something like..

Parking on pavements is bad
Riding on pavements is bad.
Riding two abreast is ok.
Running red lights is bad.
No one pays road tax.
Talking on the phone is bad.
Texting is bad.
Speeding is bad.
And so on.

I suspect it won’t happen though because the law is inconvientially not what people would like it to be.

Regards the OP- They were a bit straggly (if thats a word) for the roadie disciplinarians but I don’t think they were breaking the highway code and cycling on a road is not the preserve of some inner circle of old road gurus.

Apart from that having Billy Connolly in your group must get you extra kudos.

Cars passing too close and too fast is usually done on purpose by an occasional unhappy driver. Difficult thing to prove these types are more or less likely to be offended by one or another cyclist depending on their clothing without a very big sample group.

I used to have a job selling tracking, got paid ten bob for everyone but nothing unless there was 50 a week.
Not sure that this incentive scheme resulted in the very best customer service. 🙁

BTW it was £5.75 then which may give an indication of how long ago this was. I however have never in almost 30 years of driving felt the need to have a cars tracking adjusted.
