I hope one day his kids can get about without such hazards.

Just about got over the same injury( if I recall other threads correctly).

A friend was kind enough to lend me a turbo which I used for a week. It’s a basic model Elite something or other, had it set up in the garage with my commuter. I don’t recall giving the noise a second thought, it certainly wasn’t anything compared to the eighties soft rock I had pumping out at level 11 and undoubtedly a good work out very intense. Good technique practise too.

Hardest bit ( but also the most interesting) was working out a few plans, warm up, each leg, increasing intervals,(imagine segments) warm down.

Most turbos seem to end up on eBay and true enough since recovering enough to ride an actual bike I haven’t used it.

scotroutes » Must be true – because older people pay hugely inflated insurance premiums…
    … oh!

Indeed – my elderly mother’s insurance is almost 3 times mine. Or wasn’t that the point you were trying to make? Whilst the most dangerous drivers (based on insurance premiums at least) are 17-25 year old males, elderly retired people are actually next behind them.

Do you have access to that insurer data or is it based on these two policies?

Unless all other variables are the same, inception date, post code, driving history, excess, vehicle type, occupation, credit score, insurer, why presume its age?

17 to 25yrs old are that much a bigger risk as to make all other driver age risk variations negligable.

Over 75 may be seen as an increased risk by some but it usually just means claims history becomes more significant.

Over 80 would see an increased risk but tbh most people over 80 have worked out theres better ways of spending time than sat in a tin box.

Agreed re new housing however these houses are about 15 yrs old all have drives and there’s free space 50 yards away used by most people who have commercial vehicles to keep them out of the way.

I was actually ringing Morrisons when the lady came down the road with a buggy so took the opportunity to take a snap, tbh I won’t take up any more time on it, even doing something about this one there’ll be someone else further down the road. The issue I believe is the primacy given to vehicles combined with the cretinous nature of some folk and you get various bad behaviours associated with car users.

Yesterday ….. There’s a primary school 200 yards further down this road, the van is forcing parents with kids onto the road on a bend.
He parks like that quite regularly, stupid thing is parking on the pavement still restricts the road to single file so serves no purpose.
    He just a cretin.

Pretty open to a new world order too, however the flaw in all these conspiracy theories is that they would require a degree of orchestration which sadly does not exist.

Write it all down, everything then look for waste.

    Why not ?

I’m up for it now, get rid of national parliaments, get rid of local councils whilst were at it. Just have unitary county councils with a rep on the USE.

Pay em all well and their not allowed jobs post public office.

    Done.

Bag of spinach, packet of beetroot, few tomatoes about £3 and will last all week. Throw on a bit protein, tuna , mackerel etc for say a pound a day and you have a weeks lunches for £8.

Top em off with snack time visit to Gregg’s for about the same again.

Where I am it’s not so much the knobs who are deliberately obnoxious/aggressive, there are far more f**kwits who don’t know what they are doing in a car, particularly retired folk in Honda Jazz automatics or similar small far east stuff they have bought with their retirement package because it’s cheap, sensible and has a long warranty. They are really scary. Crawling along, not awareof what’s going on around them. Every week our local rag has stories of people being run over or houses crashed into by some oldy in an automatic who got confused with the pedals.

Regardless of the facts suggesting exactly the opposite?

I have utter contempt for anyone who parks on pavements, their cars should be crushed.

Week four since I did mine (grade 2) very painful, very frustrating (been for no2 yet?)and even now moving arm is like stirring a bag of spanners.
As above sleeping on that side is really difficult, there all different but for me the turbo was ok after a two weeks and road rides after three.

    Good luck.

Had a 1.2 tsi in a golf and thought the engine was superb really linear in its power delivery if that makes sense. No peaks just more power proportionate to revs, very impressed.

Good if you live in Wales or Scotland @ £300 per 30 credits. Bad if you live in England @£1200 per 30 credits.

In principle you shouldn’t now need an insurance cert, (it will need to insured though) and I’m not all that convinced that the internal comms to post offices has been clear on e subject.

I would get a few quotes beforehand find the insurer you want to use and just accept the quote when you buy, some will some wont email a cert, take the reg and mot to the post office buy your car tax, drive.

Just seen mmannerr’s post. Depending how you use them, maybe they don’t last, and if you get them wet, the wood swells and they’re hard or impossible to open until you’ve dried them out.

    They are cheap, though!

That’s what I remember about the ones I had as a child, the latest versions (oak and beech handled one stainless one carbon) go through the dishwasher and come out working fine.

Opinel no.8, in fact I’ve just bought another because my wife claimed the last one. Useful on picnics and such and I would carry it daily to eat my lunch but reluctantly abide by bloody silly rules.

A couple of different grade diamond steels seem to do a reasonable job on all our knifes, chisels even finished an axe of with them.

The way we are sold energy is rigged to be confusing, you should know how much you are paying per KW of electricity. It’ll be something 13 pence per KW (compared to 3 to 5 pence for gas) depending on your area and if it includes a standing charge.

£200 is not exceptional and easy to achieve if you not managing it’s use. I have recently gone the opposite way, much to my families delight.

Can’t do a year in advance:
Jan- alcohol free, start dance classes
    Feb- buy woodworking tools.
March, April – tile kitchen, make / fit units
May – Bike trip out of UK
    June- work hard
    July- work hard
    August- family holiday(inspiration needed)
September- En-roll on a carpentry course.

    That’s it so far.

When I was just mtb’ing at the weekend a full week of commuting or a lengthy road ride would leave me feeling run down. After doing more miles last year(in the region of 500 per month) I feel much more resilient and no more likely to get ill or anything.
Weather and daylight though make it difficult to get the miles in through winter. So to plan for that and build some fitness I would suggest 300,300,400,500,600,700,700,700,600,500,400,300 or similar.

Standard race blades for me, didn’t expect much but they have turned out to be very effective and reliably stay in place. Don’t do much for following riders but nothing short of full guards with flaps will.

I would plan for a few higher mile months in June, July and August and a few less in December, January and February.

What grip issues do folk get?

I’ve never had that, used loads of different (and cheap) tyres.

According to Strava I did 5500 road and 1500 off road last year I don’t record commutes but used the bike every day I was working locally so say 45x4x20k=3600 kilometres.

    Well over 10000k

The tyres used were high rollers/ cross mark mixture, the only mtb tyres I use now. Lugano’s which were ok but wore square extra quick and became prone to punctures. Durano Plus which are like have sex with four condoms on but grip and don’t puncture. Gp four season which I did most of the distance on without incident and two pairs of Mavics that came with the two pairs of Aksiums.
The first set of Mavic tyes were sold before fitting to the bike, the second set were (in my mind) the cause of the worst injury I’ve had in 2013.

They were fitted to my commuter as a result of being run into the week before, I was doing the same route I had done c.40 times last year on Duranos or Four seasons. I took a corner at the same speed in the same conditions as I have for years but in a flash the bike was gone from under me no warning no opportunity to save a slide.

The result was sprained shoulder joint (which I can tell you is very painful)with a three to six week recovery. It’s not a scientific test but difficult not conclude that those tyres are shite!

I tried a few but couldn’t really get on with any of them.. bang go for it!! etc but the guys on the screen are still bumbling along or its the same footage looped.

In the end I prefered a routine of warmups, ascending intervals and warm down, whilst choosing my own music.
