You can only do the right things, what you get for your efforts is not gaurenteed.

Russia is using military weapons to kill European civilians and USA is using military weapons to kill Arab civilians.

Remind me again why we are supposed to worried about the Chinese?

The only time I’ve seen my mate actually break down in tears was pushing a pair of those around a winter ride. good luck.

It’s an interesting contrast between the geeky cyclists persevering with body parts obviously damaged and macho footballers appearing to be shot and in agony when someone stands on their foot.

People who frequent this forum are keen mountain bikers, which means they are more likely to be fit,

High on a Diablo is about an hour but medium is good enough for most situations you’ll get about three hours add a single cell piggy back and you’ll double that to six hours.
A Diablo with single piggy back gets me through Dunwich Dynamo.

I wouldn’t discount SPD SL’s altogether, they can offer a lot of flexibility. The newer ones especially which quite wide offer a pretty good platform to use in normal shoes for those short rides.

Not sure I would want them on the xc bike but for the CDF I find them ideal.

Your asking a lot of a pair of shoes. I spent a long time and a lot of money trying to find a do it all shoe only to conclude that the ones designed for whatever your doing are best.

I invoked an alcohol on Friday and Saturdays rule a little while ago.

Theres occasional exceptions if im out for a meal or something and the good lady would say I have just shifted weekly intake to the weekend but I feel better for it, couldnt do foggy days at work anymore and have shifted some lard.

A bottle of red is about my max even on a weekend after that I start trolling helmets and hi viz evangalists.

My son had to leave a rockhopper on the lawn evry other night for a year before the local crims could be arsed to enough to nick it. In the garage, insured is safe enough for me.

Don’t you think it’s strange that someone with such enormous teeth should be a biter? Is it coincidence, some kind of genetic trait?

    Oh and a wheel bearing

I did the wheel bearings at the same time, they were more difficult! (Audi pressed into the disc type.)

Lots of jobs are made up.

Just bring in a bit of regulation that says robots must have a weekly test of some sort and all of a sudden you have a one new human job for every robot and a little bit of wealth redistributed!

How many of us actually do necessary jobs now?

I actually think Uphill here highlights the point perfectly.

The sunday ride I referenced on page one coincided with charity ride for prostrate cancer many of the riders had notes saying they were doing it for friends family etc.

So on the few occasions when our route crossed the orginised ride it was an absolute pleasure to provide a rather large windbreak and a bit of restbite for a couple of riders some chatted some didnt, no problem.

The other scenario though is getting someone like uphill sat on your wheel revving up his prejudices at every opportunity.
We had some of those a couple of weeks ago- myself and a group including some youths were nearing the end of a 100 miler when a bunch idiots on fat bikes came out of a forest ahead of us and decided it was time to race the “roadies”. (I also ride MTB)

They rinsed themselves inside out just to keep up with some coasting kids, the kids dropped them and when we stopped asked why those old men were being so silly.

Which part is in my imagination? Just so I know next time.

    Here you go..

I am a wheelsucker. There is nothing that entertains me as sitting a couple of yards behind a “roadie”. I don’t ride on the road for fun or training, usually just to get where I am going.
I don’t seem to get the chance to say Hi or offer to take a turn. Almost without fail as soon as we set off from lights or however we happen to come together they take off like a bat out of hell. More often than not they are too quick for my lack of fitness and shonky commuter but when they are not there is no finer amusement to be had.
The effort some people will put in to escape a hairy legged, baggy short and Camelback wearing middle aged man is priceless.
I have no problem taking my turn if I was ever allowed to do so. It seems I am an affront and have to be broken.

For someone who just rides to get from A to B theres a lot going on inside that head. Maybe there just riding home too, but have better gear than you?

Personal possession add on to your home insurance. My daughter took her mothers engagement ring to school, never seen again. Could be worse my mate swapped his mothers for a Bultaco 350, not sure you’ll get cover for that.

If your going to do any 120 mile ride this is it riding in the dark on deserted roads is brilliant. For me its actually 150 mile if I want to get home but my favourite organised ride of the year.
Once your clear London which is usually fun itself the roads clear and when the last of the drunk driver are gone you will have some lovely rolling roads all to yourself and a few thousand other cyclist.

Mind..you will never want to look at a flashing red light again!

There was a sportive on our normal Sunday route today, had quite a few guys join us, a couple said hello and had a chat, a couple just took advantage of the tow. TBH I’m quite happy to be of service, on another day it may be me.

Not sure what’s the situation, has the new turbo failed?
I did one a while ago got the turbo from a place in Wakefield who weren’t the cheapes but very helpful. There advise was defo change oil feed as well which was harder to fit than the turbo but seems likely to be reason the original turbo broke. Also took the intercooler apart as most the engine oil seemed to have found it way into there.

Anyway it’s been on about 10k miles now and all fine, better than before tbh. If the cars otherwise good give it another go.

Looks ok, perhaps your backsides a little too far back but that could just be the pic.

Check your cleat position and ride more.

There not trying to kill you just making the roads deliberately more dangerous. Whether it’s punishment passes or taking centre line when oncoming or my favourite the look into the distance so they can say they didn’t see you. I reckon there’s about one per hour even on the relatively quiet roads.

I said it on another thread, lesson # 1 of road riding is lots of people are unpleasant.

    2. only ever take a job that i can cycle to.

After two weeks of sleepless nights trying to decide, I have just declined a job offer that included a 60 mile commute. It was an extra 20k but after you take the tax and commuting cost off that, it’s a big chunk of my time for not a lot.

Doesn’t help when the alternative with my present job is a 25 minute cycle commute half of which is woodland trails. :-)
