I bought a 14″ scandal off here for a build for my son 9yrs 135cm.

He must have looked like a midget on a 29er :-)

I think it was fair. Strait did a similar top section to Semanuk (no slouch yet didn’t manage to pull it off) and made it look easy. really impressive. Chuck in the trick on the step down and that massive jump at the bottom and it was an amazing bit of riding.

McGarry’s line at the top looked a lot less technical and (apart from flipping the canyon) didn’t have anything that would have been beyond a lot of the riders if they had chosen the same line.

Zink would have won if he had kept it together on the bottom section as his top bit was similar to Strait’s. I guess he is not too bothered though and happy to be still alive 8O .

I am amazed that so few people got hurt, the carnage potential was massive.

Really good vfm and very versatile but actually quite small especially as you cant swivel the front seats round like in some of the VWs.

Rust is an issue as is the consumption but mechanically they seem pretty solid. Mine has done well over 200K kms and it sails through the MOT every year. Never heard of that problem with a tow bar.

As an aside, does anyone know what the little round flap in the inner roof is for?

Zero problems, so nothing to moan about

Apart from the price/performance gain ratio.

£750 per rim takes the piss and any average rider who buys them needs their head examined.

It sounds like Whiteroom manage with the St Foy Uplift Van, so it cant be that bad can it?

Maybe they book it exclusively for the day. I did one day there last year and managed two runs despite arriving at about 9.30! About an hour wait for the driver to turn up, plenty of faffing around by him and a wait for some imaginary other people, 30 mins up lift, no chance of being picked up in the valley (as he was waiting for some more imaginary people)so a road ride back to the station x2, he took a massive lunch break and finished early because it rained. The set up was properly mickey mouse.

Anyway, what about Andorra? some guys this summer did 4 days at Vallnord for Euro 250 (Nice hotel, transfer and lift pass incl) plus flights to Barcelona.

    It ticks a lots of boxes for that STW nicheness cachet;
steel, singlespeed, no on else will want to be seen dead on one have a similar “rig” and it is also available in the next big thing wheel size.

it still looks hideous even with more sensible bars and stem.

Would the marked trails in St Foy be enough for 3 days of lift assisted riding?

If you relied on the station uplift that would mean maybe, 2/3 or so runs a day. Its a joke.

For a short trip, fly to Grenoble and you are in Deuz alpes in an hour or Vaujany even quicker.

Steeper stuff will be further north and east. The hills behind the valley where the barenschleucht wand have plenty of potential and I bet there is some stuff down into the same valley from grossweinstein.

I lived there a long time ago so can’t remember names of towns and I only climbed so never really looked for bike tracks. Trubachtal is probably a decent start point though (climbing and biking).

As a start. Trubachtal is not too far away but the other places are further, towards Bamburg.

There should be loads of stuff as you say. YT Industries is just up the road in Forcheim, you could ask on their facebook page.

Do you climb?, because Erlangen is the centre of the German sport climbing universe.

I would definitely recommend trying the exercises in the article I linked to. Its a bible for climbers (who are prone to elbow problems) and it sorted out my tennis elbow pretty quickly.

I would go. A business that has lost its good people and is prepared to double the salary of someone to keep them sounds like a business that’s grasping at straws and wont be around too long. Also, improved morale isn’t really something that that can be conjured out of thin air.

A better work environment is worth a fair bit of money IMO.

I was never too bothered but really happy I did. Babies do suck though, it gets good about 4 or 5.

Does add complexity to planning family holidays though…

    Not here :D

    From the dfe.

Headteachers have the discretion to grant leave, but they should only do so in exceptional circumstances. If a headteacher grants a leave request, it will be for them to determine the length of time that the child can be away from school. This leave is unlikely, however, to be granted for the purposes of a family holiday.

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006

    Term-time holiday

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 currently allow headteachers to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in “special circumstances” of up to ten school days leave per year. Headteachers can also grant extended leave for more than ten school days in exceptional circumstances.

Amendments to the 2006 regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Headteachers should determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave is granted.

Heads might still have some discretion but it seems pretty clear that normal family holidays should not be interpreted as exceptional circumstances.

For kids, bouldering is probably even better. No ropes, limited gear expense, no hassle and you get to climb at the same time.

Briancon and south towards Roche de Ram/Embrun Plenty of smaller ski stations, loads of white water and decent riding

Barcellonette, pretty much as above as well

I just dont see it as black and white as many of the teachers above do.

My argument is that, although a week out of school may not significantly affect a kids (short term)learning, the perception that school is less important than bargain holidays will have an insidious effect on their longer term attitude to academic education and thus exam performance. Shades of grey rather than black and white.

education is the most important thing in their young lives and that it doesnt start and stop at the school gate.

I would agree with that but when little darling gets sub par gcse/a level results, putting stuff like “I saw some glaciers/ I bought a baguette/I paddled in a Mediterranean rock pool” on you CV won’t really cut it.

But you are conflating two things. “Taking them out for cheaper holidays” and “poor parental attitudes” dont necessarily go hand in hand. I dont take my children out of school but of the people I know who do they are some of the most committed parents with their children’s well being foremost.

Well maybe they just don’t get that by taking their kids out of school they are effectively telling them “school work is secondary to our ski trip/summer holiday”.

we have worked effectively with them to ensure our children’s education is as supported as it possibly can be

I always find that taking kids out of school is a highly effective strategy for improving educational performance :?

If this is the level of respect that you show to your child’s school and teachers then I have no doubt that that attitude will rub off on your kid(s) and they won’t give two shits about school either. Kids who don’t care about school won’t achieve nearly as well as those who are engaged and care about it. This is wider than school holidays

Pretty much spot on IMO. Funnily enough, parents are the most important factor in how a child achieves at school. Poor parental attitudes to the importance of education (taking them out for cheaper holidays being a prime example) will rub off fairly quickly on their kid’s performance.

If the package to Gstaad, Tuscany or Florida is too expensive, do something/go somewhere else. Our holidays never cost that much, tend to be fairly cool and are always during my sons holiday times.

Is the muscle going into spasm, or does it just hurt?

If if just hurts: ibroprofen and maybe co codamol/paracetamol at night to help you sleep.

If it is spasming, see a doc as they will prescribe something like diazapam to help with this.

    I am not a doctor
