A Second language should be on the curriculum, kids need to learn grammar somehow, and they do not seem to do it in english lessons.

Surely the idea of secondary school is to give kids a rounded education, therefore a varied selection of subjects is a good thing.

However, any course that gives pretend qualifications, can ce used by the school as a scam to pretend that the kids got 5 A-C @ Gcse or has applied in the title should be given a wide berth IMO.

My understanding is that one a business is in administration, the new creditors (those from after the administration) are guaranteed payment.

So, any pay due before administration is in the queue, but any from after should be OK.

Its only 80bn, not a lot in the scheme of things. I think its just a knee jerk reaction from a load of jumpy traders already sitting on decent profits from the last few months.

Bear in mind that the kid appears to be pretty good, is getting help with the bike from a shop, the 4K is likely to be inflated for effect etc.

I wouldnt spend that, but if the kid is good, keen and the family have the money then why not. More justifiable than some fat punter who buys an expensive 6inch travel bike to ride round somewhere like sherwood pines once a month.

La Seu D'Urgell is on the road in to andorra, great riding there.
It is about 45 mins from La Molina. It was also the site of the Barcelona Olympics XC course. More like Cardagne than Val d'aran
I think that the Val d'aran is a bit further to the west (over the boarder from Luchon). I have an article somewhere from a french mag, if you can read french i could try and scan it for you. It looked like a nice area.

the area around where altitude adventure is based (Font Romeau, Les Angles) is wicked for biking and walking. Much less expensive and less crowded than the alps.

There are some crags in the mountains above les angles and there is targasonne very close for bouldering. Vingrau and Tautavel are about 1.5 hrs away.

In the context of his work as a scientist at the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics, and even more so in his private life, he felt a particular connection with the foreign students, who he felt to be to be truly helpful and supportive.

    Something like that!

    To be fair

It sounds more like she is looking for an excuse to get out.

Cant do the paperwork? well thats part of what you sign up to when you get into education
Uneconomic number of children? Poor business decision
Cant fix a leaky roof? Dont think you would fail an inspection on this

"why do you want it? what happened to the shoulder?"

Got hit by a car, over the bonnet and landed on my shoulder about 12 months ago.

I have some sort of inflammation in the shoulder gives me a shooting pain when I move the arm sharply or backwards (this efin hurts!). There is also a constant nagging pain (more managable)

IME Britain is less expensive than mainland europe at the moment, even after factoring out the exchange rate movements.

I really think bike and component manufacturers are taking the pi** with prices at the moment.

How can a few tubes of alu or carbon, some pretty low tech parts and pretty basic R+D cost to more than a car or a motorbike?

The Andorran parks would be fine on a hardtail (up to red), the tracks are well maintained.

I wouldnt bother with a hardtail at La Molina

Great place, 2 resorts with bike parks:
Val Nord Pal Arinsal: lots of good trails, different grades great vibe.
GrandValira, Soldeau: pretty good especially the higher routes.

Commuting from across the boarder could be a pain as there are always traffic jams at customs (in both directions). Soldeau is closer to the French side than ValNord so harder to get to from Spain.

Val Nord is also very family friendly if thats an issue.

Loads around Isle sur tet, Rodez, Balestra and Prades 20-30 mins from Perpignan. Excellent rocky stuff
Quillan good abt 1.20 from Perpignan Centre FFC VTT
Vaurnet Les Bains abt 1hr from Perpignan Centre FFC VTT
Up the road towards Narbonne there are waymarked routes at Fitou (mainly rocky double track but some good stuff)
Further up the road at La Palme there is generally stuff waymarked with spray paint)
There is also stuff near the coast around Baynuls but never been.

    Some sites:

There is a company called Altittude Adventure based near Font Romeau. Know nothing about them but the riding in this area is very good.

Lifts are shut now but the descent of the Tet valley to Olette following the route of the yellow train is meant to be fun. Park at Olette or Villefranche and take the train to Mont Louis. Topo on the utagawavtt site.

    Weather should be nice now!

How many people would be complaining if the tour was shorter, slower and less exciting?

If Armstrong was taking EPO he was only levelling the playing field as I am sure that there are very few pros that are drug free. How hard must it be to ride the distances they do, at the speeds they do, for the number of days they do and be agressive in the mountains, without some chemical assistance.

Just come back from 6 weeks in the Pyranees Orientale, Spanish Cardagne valley and Andorra.

Les Angles and Font Romeau in France are great for weather, loads of stuff to do off a bike and biking (Bikes parks, road and XC)
Andorra (Grand Valira and Vallnord) has great bike parks and beautiful walking
La Molina is mostly a biking destination but not far from any of the above
Also, Font Romeau is about 1.5 hours from the coast if you wanted to visit a beach.

Actually it was the seat tube, wrong nomenclature but point still stands

re the XCL, I read a review in a french mag that suggested that it was a bit steep and XC orientated. I am looking for a slack bike that will take big forks and a coil rear shock. What do you think?

    Cheers

"the bike you already have is probably good enough, if only you could ride it better…." cheers Di*k He@d!

The "bike I already have" is a 10 year old heckler that has had a hole worn through the downtube from cable rub, has forks that no longer hold air for more than 2 days and is in need of a full new drive train.

I still think early trance was pretty good. At clubs like the orbit or the omen, a dj like sven, smoke, lazers and big break downs. At the time it was great.

Techno is deffo a deeper type of music and its pretty much all I listen to now but I think a lot of the names on the list are pretty overrated (particurlarly as dj's)

There are some good americans: mills, bone, dex, rolando but Japan is where its at now!

"i'd say Ian's selection is Cy-Trance, only really popular in Rotterdam and with the crustier ravers

either way, i'm back from shopping and have moved on to EyeQ – Behind the Eye Volume 2 "

Eh? apart from the Bonzei tracks, pretty much everything came out of Germany and at least 3 were on Eye Q.

They are a pretty definative selection of early 90's trance

"every track is formulaic, same strings or stuttering 303 over uninteresing basslines, no groove or swing"

But at the time,in the right environment, under the "right conditions" it was awesome.

trancy techno :dj preach or valantino kanzyiani
    techno:taakaki itoh, umek, christian varela

avoid the psy trance and acid techno stuff its S41T!

In France, cards are actually better than cash on the autoroute, choose the CB lanes and the queues are shorter and move quicker.

The only place cards do not seem to work is on the pay at the pump machines at petrol stations. So do not run out after the kiosks have shut.

so, for 5 mins a day the teacher is having to supervise 31 kids rather than 30. Big deal!.

On occasion both my wife and I have taken our young son to our schools when child care broke down. It had no negative effect on the kids.

Maybe said teacher should just give up her job and stay at home to look after her child like a good little women and not not bother about mens stuff like providing for the family.

700km and 10,500m of climbing does not seem like “an easy going” 2 weeks!
