What about train to grenoble and coach the last bit. would be a fair bit cheaper.

even a taxi from Grenoble would probably work out cheaper!

Sounds a bit like Tabatha training with longer rests. There seems to be a fair ammount of evidence that that works pretty well.

I think tabatha is 40 secs on/40secs off x16 or something like that.

Also certainly the UK she remembers when she was 4 wont be the real UK.

Tory government for one thing. Persuade her to stay in Sweden.

Avoid 2008 marzocchi air forks like the plague.

I am a massive marzocchi fan but they did themselves no favours that year. I had a pair of allmountain sl that eventually went in the bin, they had all sorts of issues.

How do you find and contact them in situations like this?

Ring 999 and someone will do it for you, alternatively you can wave down the hill at your personal emergency back up squad that now appears mandatory 🙄

i think grip shifts are better for young kids, it takes a fair bit of thumb pressure to change gear with the other type.

Ianv – have you got any more info about Super Besse

Spent a day there last summer. its got a wicked blue, 2 reasonably technical reds with some steep sections and a black that was used for a french downhill championship race, There is also a load of wood modules towards the bottom. You could easily spend a few days there.

The locals are super friendly and the bars are cheap (and gave out free rounds). Cost about 20Euros a day for the gondila. Its also not far from La Bourboule which has some stuff as well and is a centre VTT FFC.

    Highly recommended.

“Thinking about knocking it on the head for good. I’ve had a good run over the last 13 years, no serious injuries or accidents although I have seen a lot of others get badly hurt or worse”

Climbing does not always have to involve the potential to kill yourself. Sport and bouldering were always my preferences and there is both not far from Boulder.

i have never been riding only climbing but there are bike shops in apt, as is the distributor for santa cruz (race company). there is a guide to the area and it would appear that there is riding both north and south of apt. There is an area (colorado) that featured in loads of the early bike videos, this is just near St Saturine de apt North of the main town.

    http://www.ot-apt.fr/ballades/velo.htm should be usefil

The saturday market at apt was a must visit back in the day, a proper freak show of local hippys.

some questions from me to as i am going to be round this area with my son this summer.

what sort of driving time is it to 2 alpes from bourg d’oisans?
is the vanosc descent steep technical or just long?
does a lift pass for deux alpes allow the use of the vanosc and alp d’huez lifts?
which resort would be the best base for a young kid?

    thanks

“I feel a bit sorry for those kids really, I bet dad is a bit pushy!”
Yeah, they dont seem to be enjoying themselves at all! 🙄

The arguments that its nothing special just because they are young, not scared and have a geographical advantage are a bit fatuous IMO. The kids are obviously good and good kids ought to be encouraged, not shot down by jealous adults.

That Jim Masters Mix, it funny how sometimes a set with so many good tracks can be so boring.

Back to the 80′; Jeff Mills before he got into techno. This site has lots of old chicago mixes if you search as well

Of the places I have been in Europe, I would say Andorra. A mix of French/Spanish/Catalan culture, really friendly people, awesome landscape and easy to get to a warmer climate even in Winter. Southern France is nice (particularly the Pyranees Orientale) but I would hate to have to live anywhere north of Lyon.

    Otherwise Western Canada.

The itineraires descendant are sort of downhill xc, there are also waymarked xc routes and you can buy a pack of them at the tourist information. The proper downhills are graded at bit different than most places though and I would not take a relative beginner on the red or the blue called Izengard.

Apparently Ax les Thermes is pretty good as well but never been to ride.

Valnord would be fine for her, as would Grand Valira which is the other bike park. La Molina has nothing really that interesting for less experienced riders (the best riding starts with the reds and they are a fair bit more difficult than a uk red) the easier routes are steep fire roads and pretty crap. Les Angles, just over the border from La Molina in France is really nice for both XC and lift assisted.

“They’ve been back racing following breaks of mainly collarbone, hand and arm way quicker than expected”

The two bones quite some way apart and frow what I read, he does not seem to be very effective in a situation like that. Even discounting that, some people seem to think its all bull and its for this reason I was trying to see what the consenus was.

years ago i had a broken scaphoid and was in pot for 3 months. i found that filling a basin with warm water and then moving/pressuring my wrist into various angles (while under water and warmed up) got me started pretty well.
