You could try and find one of the original 4″ travel hecklers (for next to nothing probably). I did everything on mine: alps/bike parks etc. Pretty sturdy and work well with a 130-140mm fork. Only problem might be tyre clearance but you can definitely get 2.35 high rollers on one

We were messing around with a pension calculator yesterday and a 29 yr old women who had worked 8 yrs would end up paying £70 pounds per month extra, have to work to 68 and receive £180K less in pension over a 20 year period after retirement.

How many people would be happy to accept that without a fight?

some amazing stuff on there, the guy in the wheel chair is on this too.

Accept that your pension will be less good from now on. It’ll be easier in the long run. It’s astonishing how many teachers are retiring now to seal their benefits before the rules change.

So a strike once failed to achieve its hoped for outcome and all union members should just bend over and take what the government wants to give them regardless of the equity of it?

Smile as we get shafted, it will be better in the long run. What’s the reasoning behind that pearl of wisdom?

Some teachers might be choosing to retire and I know one or two that are. They are very good and experienced teachers so what does that potentially mean for the quality of education in the school system?

My union is striking but fully intend to work

So I take it you will be accepting the governments current kind offer on pensions even if the strikes managed to get them to change their position 🙄

    1. French cliffs are equipped by the local council (the pay someone to do it and keep an eye on the gear) the fixed gear therefore pretty good and you don’t need to worry that it will fail.

    2. Unless you are climbing overhangs you will always catch the rope on edges etc. again don’t worry. It is the internal cords that are the big deal, the outer only stops them getting damaged.

Sport climbing is pretty safe, don’t get freaked by all the talk of danger, death and destruction and have fun.

No one in their right mind could describe the early Konas as good looking and that Tomac looks like something sold in JJB sports.

Had two in my shoulder, they dont hurt that much! The first time was done by the GP and didnt work (apparently there is a 3:1 chance of this being the case as they can miss the target). Second time it cleared up the problem (bursitus) pretty quick BUT this was done in combination with ultrasound so they knew exactly where they were aiming. Push for the guided option if you have the opportunity as it is likely to be much more effective.

There are no tolls on the Northern French Motorways till Valancienne (way past the turn off to Brugge).

When you get to the end of the duel carriageway into Brugge (just past the Greenpeace building) turn right and then left, there is a big car park by the police station. Do not get stuck in the town centre one way system as it will be grid locked and you will waste loads of time. Brugge is small you can walk everywhere once you are parked up. this info wont work for saturdays though as the carpark gets used for the local market.

I have spent over £300 on physios so far this year (with some more on the way) before adding up all the other stuff.

    ianv

I dont think anyone was suggesting that private physios are any better. Its just that they are more available and you can get to see them quicker.

When I did mine, I was given the first available physio appointment, 3 weeks after the event and it would have meant I missed one half of work per week in order to get to the hospital to get it. Going private meant I could pop in before work once or twice a week starting immediately after the accident. Its worth spending a bit of money in the early stages to find out the exercises etc.

It really depends how bad it was and if the scapula or rotator cuff was damaged. If its a simple dislocation then you could probably be riding a road bike in a month or so and a mountain bike in 2 or 3.

I did mine badly last september, and messed the rotator cuff. I was riding road bikes by October, XC (Gently) by December and downhill with no ill effects at all by March.

An operation will put you in a sling for at least 1 month (with keyhole) and 2 if more invasive so I would think carefully before doing that.

France maybe. There are the FCC centres, the long distance bike trails and all the bike parks. There are also loads of organised events.

What we need is more acadamies where the managers set and enforce the curiculum, and also set the pay.

Without extensive tests, it’s impossible to tell if this comment was intentionally or unintentionally funny. I’ll let you know when we hear more from the lab.

I think we have to assume irony here as no one could be stupid enough to believe that AND be capable of writing in sentences.

Typical STW, someone asks about one thing and everyone else goes off on a points scoring tangent about something else!

All thats missing is a few links to wikipedia and some photos of someone on a chossy trad route somewhere.

Do not use via ferrata stuff for sport climbing. It is not designed to take the dynamic forces created by a biggish fall.

Where abouts in France are you, out of interest.

Not been riding at ax les therme but the comments on the 26in site say that “it is a good park thats making a real effort for mountain bikes” and has ” plenty of vertical” We met a lad in Andorra last summer who reckoned it was pretty good. I have been to Ax though and the park is on a pretty steep hill. The XC is on a plateau above the town.

Will be in the pyranees late summer so might check it out.

I’d guess that his recent success is a combination of training/improved training and the support that the biggest team on the circuit provides. He appears to have bulked up a bit, his fitness is obviously there and Trek have made no secret about their desire to approach every facet of DH racing in as professional a manner possible.

But Atherton racing/red bull are not exactly a bunch of amateurs and you can be sure Gee worked pretty hard over the winter as well so I find it hard to imagine that Gwin’s training was so much more effective that he went from podium chasing to domination in 6 months or so. There must be some element of him now being able to show his true potential on a bike that works.

£6.99 a pop at decathlon so way cheaper than Outside. Seriously, all decent brands will hold falls and the wire gates are no better to clip so why pay more?

    ianv

I wonder how much of Gwin’s transformation is due to off season training and how much is due to the fact he is now riding a decent bike.

The camino del rey is proper scary. Years ago we went to el chorro climbing and at first it was a fairly traumatic walking along the narrow crumbling concrete walkway over a massive drop into the gorge. I think the first (scariest) bit has now been removed as it was too dangerous.

That there is more to the alps than the PDS. It would be a real shame to spend 3 months in the alps, with transport, and only ride there.
