I used to change my bikes all the time, i think i went thru seven in abotu as many months, some were stolen, some i bought and they didn’t fit me right, some i had to sell to pay for my nicolai. my current two bikes are my handjob, and commuter, the commuter will soon be going for something lighter and faster, the handjob will stay with me for ages.

i have a big bike coming, and thinking i’ll get a short travell full sus for when my bike bike is to much.

I went with trialaddiction last year and it was great fun. We used the lifts but I saw all the trailers they use when the lifts are not open. Good guides which help you through the technical stuff if your a bit unsure and great scenary. The food and the chalet are really good to. Hopefully going to try get over there again this year if money allows.

This is a copy of the email they sent me.

    Ian,

Although we do deal with Just Riding Along we do not have a dedicated
distributor in the UK, if they do not want to build you a set of wheels with
Mavic rims you may order them direct from us if you wish. You too may order
from your local bike shop but they will need to contact me for the
appropriate dealer information first. Please feel free to contact me if you
have any further questions, I’ll be happy to help.

    Thank you,

    Brandi

They are going to be in the region of £600-£700 depending on currency fluctuations and the discount my lbs gives me. Thats with the enduro hubs in red, with red spokes and mavic 823 rims. A similar price to the kings built up on similar rims

i9’s could be interesting, problem is that limited distributors (think it’s just riding along that are the only stockists) means limited discounting, making them pretty expensive compared to other options.

Since I9s don’t have an official UK distributor you can just email them and buy directly from them, the link is on their website. They can build any combo hub spoke rim option you like. You don’t have to go through just riding along which is good as they seem limited in their colours and rim options and don’t seem to care about ordering in what you want. Alternativly, your lbs can deal directly with I9 and therefore you can pick up a discount through your local lbs which is what I have done.

i think its 12grams what difference does it make. However before i knew much about nice things i bought an xc bike and put an x2 stem on it and took it jumping….lol. anyway it was strong enough for that.

Myself……….”I’d lik to report a theft”

    Police women….”Whats been stolen”

    Myself……….”My stiffee”

If you ride your good bike your going to wear it out. It makes more sense to use a cheaper bike, which is cheaper to maintain with cheaper replacement parts.

For example, Say you do 2000 miles a year with your other half and you go through a set of rings, a couple of chains and a cassette. If you were using your good bike with full xt your looking say £200, however if you were using a cheaper bike with deore throughout it would cost you say £100, that doesnt include increased wear on suspension forks and bushings and pivots.

why trash a good bike when you can ride a cheaper one.

Lol, I rode 2 weeks in the alps and snapped my shock bolt, I rode 1 uplift day at cwm carn and ripped my rear mech off into my spoke, tore both gear cables out and pulled a goodridge cable out of the lever, then in penmancho i bent a xtr shifter and m4 brake lever and blew my forks. I would have to agree with gw on this one.

alright, 6ft 4 and 25stone, i had a stiffee, amazing hardtail, i had mine in 19inch and felt about right with a 90mm stem, now ride a cove handjob and that is fine with my weight to tho i don’t jump it or do drop on it. I did however do long jumps and drops on my stiffee and would highly recommend it. I ould probably go for the 21 inch and run a short stem if i were you.

I was thinking of a nice custom nicolai helius rc, or a nice hardtail, built up with full xtr, probably shimano brakes, tho maybe hope brakes and kings on 819 tubeless wheels and some bolt thru rebas or fox 120s

I doubt any bike shop will stock ‘hobbit’ bikes, i need a large or xl and struggle finding demos in that size. most are mediums. give pscle werxs a call 0117 946 7946, they usually bend over backwards for me and imo do some of the best hardtails money can buy, cove stiffee/handjob/hummer or sc chameleon then they have nicolai, turner, and i think they can get hold of lightspeed. if you want cheaper more mainstream brands trek/giant/commencal then go to mud dock.
