They are talking about developing the shifter, maybe to electronic shifting to get rid of the gripshifter!

Well, I’ve not considered either yet properly, obviously I’m going to test the pinion, if I like it then I will move ahead looking at belt drive options…..

I’m going to see if they can do a gates, pinion ht 29er as a touring bike. Going across africa I went through 7 chains and four cassettes in 4 months!.

Well, it’s £3150 for the am frame with pinion cranks and shifter.

Sounds a lot, but once you add up the cost of a drivetrain (my last nicolai that was £1000) then it works out about £300 more expensive.

My frame is not a am pinion, it’s a 29er ac pinion with custom geometry!

I’ve been loosly following these, any more news on availability?

There are very few bike companies making the compatible frames, I only know of Nicolai but there are a few others, if you order one now you might be lucky by Christmas.

If you are interested speak to Nicolai UK

Mine should be with me the end of this month. The one you see in the picture is pretty much the first production customer nicolai one.

The chain tensioner is located there because the chain is more secure on the front ring and saves you having to run a chain guide. They found on the proto they sometimes dropped the chain on the front when used with a rohlf tensioner, so they designed this one.

IMO doesn’t look quite as clean as a rear chain tensioner, but never the less, function over form

Not those who are nervouse about their goods not arriving, but those who can’t wait more then a couple of hours before jumping down someone’s neck.

If you send an email, some people only check their email once every couple of days. So yeah get annoyed of you send a couple of emails and hear nothing for 2-3-4 days etc, but not after a couple of hours.

yup, I rode across Africa on marathon plus 32c, slightly larger carcass, I also didn’t have a puncture.

For skinny road wheels i would go for the duranos, though would feel more comfortable in the wet on the marathon plus.

Passat estate is 120g co2 for the 140hp version.

The Hyundai i40 estate drives better and has more kit and is slightly bigger for less money. Also 120g co2 I think for 140hp

I had a Tom Tom, it broke after 2 years, I replaced it with a Garmin. Never buy a Garmin, who ever wrote it’s algorithms needs shooting, it’s choice of routes is bad, it doesn’t know what a no right turn is, and it’s traffic avoidance doesn’t work. Tom tom every time.

In fact I’m pretty certain if you set your mind to it one could easily build a bike that cost in excess of £10K.

Go on then, what’s the most expensive build you can come up with?

I’ll tell you what, it’s bloody difficult!

**** a duck maybe the wrong question to ask?

Alternately maybe being an engineering type I think engineers just look at a product like a bike and in all honesty go It’s just a bike. Apologies but to me a bike that costs 1k is as indifferent as a bike that cost’s £6250 ,no jealousy or slating anyone that wants to spend their hard earned but more a case of it does the same thing.

Maybe these things aren’t aimed at customers like me

As an engineer how can you say that….

Perhaps if you were a middle aged housewife with no interest in bikes, you might say that.

Are you a middle aged housewife with no interest in cycling?

My new frame, which should be along shortly, costs £4300 and a bit….

Add some carbon wheels, then it makes the 6k bike look cheap!

    Worth every penny.

Actually I was only thinking of the carbon one, but they actually do steel version, I wonder what head tube they use. Anyway, for a 6th bike I don’t want to go crazy! £1800 or so for a ht frame. No thank you!
