We will gave to see if my LBS can source br or if frames because the
insurance money will be paid to them and not myself.

Gt – the at will be replaced by the ion, when it comes the am will be given a make over to make it into the trail ripper it was always meant for rather then the dh bike it now resembles. remember it only has 120mm rear sus.

The mega was a great week but I came off and smashed the jaw or my full face so didn't have a proper helmet still a hood experience but I'll be back next year to complete the mega

Tbh I will prob go for an xt cassette, however I won't go for SRAM, mainly because I'm used to and prefer shimano and secondly xx is pretty much 50% more then xtr, and that stops me from trying it.

I don't like formula brakes, I had a bad set, and whilst I appreciate that I've only tried one set, I am a stubborn so and so.

I think I have the build pretty much specced, except I don't know how pimp i'm going to go with the wheels.

So far I think its going to be

    2011 fox float 36 140mm
2011 xtr shifters, cranks and rear mech
    slx cassette
    2011 xtr trail brakes
    thompson masterpeice seatpost
    thompson stem
easton carbon dh bars (though I might get the rf atlas bars)
pro2 straight pull spokes on flow rims, though i might try the new xtr hubs

Iainc – I don't spend my life worrying about things like that. Thats what insurance is for

That is the only thing which is putting me off the sov.

For me I find 32mm stanchioned forks a little bit flexy, I like a solid front end, tbh, i think the sov will suit the feel I'm after.

I am tempted to get a full custom lynskey with the exact geom of the sov, the sov is my current fave, plus it gives me more money to spend on bling, though i do really want a ti hardtail.

Hope and chris king you can replace the bearing easily so you don't buy a new one. On the other hand you can buy a shimano ht2 for £25 so you can buy 3 for the same price as the hope.

i guess because it doesn't have to click into a slot, it just stops at any given height. didn't realise it was avaliable in 27.2

I had the 130 and found that the power was just enough, there if you needed it. I had the old lx 5 spd version and would of liked a 6th gear, so I'm going to say go for the 130 to get the 6spd.

It cruises lovely, I did a 300mle drive in it without stopping, and if i didn't have a company car i don't think I would have sold it.

it seems to get good reviews from all the mags, i know they are only opinions however they seem good bikes. my mate has one and loves it. seems cheep to me, and if you hate it you could probably sell it for not much more then you paid for it.

alex, I fully agree with you, I love the alps, I don't speak franch or german though. I'm going to save up and go travelling I think but I've never felt at home in england and I'm young and have no ties so now seems like the perfect time to test the waters.

Born in leeds, moved to devon when I was 5, went to boarding school near horsham when I was 10, went to uni in bath when i was 18 spent 6 years there and now have moved to maidstone for work.

I don't feel at home in maidstone so will move, either up north, back to bath or nz or canada.

Geetee, I'm off for two weeks, but only in the alps for one, so if your free how about fod 2 weeks today with perhaps an overnight stay and then cwm carn on the sunday.

heihei, the grass does not get any sun after 2pm so it stays nice and green.

nasher, it should be good, the rear trave is only 120 – 140

    ianpinder

nasher, that is the standard ha for the am. I trust those who know about these things. no one else who rides an am says that it's too steep, so i didnt feel the need to change it.

the money is not relly the issue once you take into account the money saved by not having to buy cassette, mech, shifter, chain, chain guide, cranks etc.

the weight should be ok the location of it inbetween your feet should make less of a difference.
