I think TJ meant the triangulation on the top mount, I hate to say this but I probably agree with him on this sole point.

I would just quickly add a piece so the top mount was a triangle, then you will be ok. Other then that good bodge.

I need it to be truely free standing, because it will be pitched on sand and in concrete slabs. Ideally I want to be able to remove the flysheet as at times it will be about 30+C

The hillberg does seem to fit the bill, no removable rain fly however both sides do roll up completely. Expensive, though it will be home for a while…..

No other totally free standing designs, most need the porches pegging out.

My weight can fluctuate by 2kg day in day, have you have to see that as just stuff inside rather then your actuall weight. I did it for the first 3 months of the year and lost 30kg and gave it up for April. I have not put on any weight oberte month despite my eating habits being shocking. It was more a test to see what would happen when I stop the diet.

Anyway starting again in may, have another 30 kg to loose by august.

I was looking at tht tent, however what concerns me is the two porches will both need pegging, whilst it stands up without pegging the flysheet will be lying up against the inner.

then quaser is the front runner by a long way
this tent is a close second http://www.ellis-brigham.com/camping/mountain-hardwear/294355/helion-2

It’s going to be used through africa and will be my home for 4 1/2 months, some places where we are camping will be very soft ground which wont hold pegs, or concrete, which again wont hold pegs.

Needs to still stand with the flysheet removed, so ideally is a pitch the inner first. I won’t have to carry it for teh 4 1/2 months, so the other requirements take priority, however, if it is lightweight it’s always a bonus for after

I would think a sub 30lb build would be easy enough, whilst keeping the strenght and durability to do enduros. My nicolai ‘only’ weighs 33lbs with nothing particulally light on it. So yeah sub 30lb would be easy

Schmolke make wide flat bars in 25.4, but quite pricey (above £100) not sure what size they go upto in 25.4 but around 700mm anyway.

    They are avaliable from poshbikes.

I swapped my shimano slx out for some race face sixc cranks and can feel the difference… saying that the saints on my dh bike feel just as stiff and are half the cost. 300g heavier then just the single ring six c. should be some good deals around

    1) doing something that actually improves thing – sponsered litter collection of local trails, that sort of thing

What makes you think I don’t do this already

Put your ego away, put your desire for a holiday away and do something useful ad green that does not cost thousands

You assume I don’t do anything for charity already…..For some reason you seem to think you know me, which you don’t so you put your ego away and stop assuming you know best.

I’m going to do this anyway regardless, so why not raise some money for charity, or would you prefer me not to bother?????

Can someone sponsor me to do an MBA?
If it’s to enhance your CV, pay for it yourself…

Where did anyone say they were doing this to enhance their cv. Cletus wa talking about the effect of doing this, not that it was the cause for doing it

Tj what do you call doing something usefull.

Aracer thanks for posting that they did well and raised a large amount of money.

Hopefully I’ll achieve something in that region.

The 3 charities I’m going to donate to are lupus uk, cancer research uk and wateraid.

Those that don’t know about the race, it’s 12000km long over 4 months 94 riding days and 25 rest days averaging 120km a day with the longest day being 207km and the shortest 78km.

Is this a real question? – Pitch all the way – search this (and other) forums for “Pitch” and see what comes up…………..you won’t regret it

Thats why sarecen should have changed their name as well as the rest of their brand…..

Biketart have a sarecen demo bike in stock

I looked at the just giving pages, it only allows you to select one chairty….. are their any others which allow you to select three

But however you look at it spending £15 000 to raise a some thousands is very poor value for money. Just give the £15 000 to charities. work for that time and give a decent % of your earnings as well – the charities get more money because I doubt very much you will raise anything like £15 000 in donations

I’d like to think I will

    ianpinder

    Race Entry £8 000
50% of the donations up to the value of the entry fee go towards the entry cost.

So if you raise £16 000 through donations you recover your race costs.
Net cost to you £7 000

50% of donations upto the value of the entry fee of £8000

    so £4000…..

Whilst I don’t disagree with you, have any of you ever sponsored someone to do a sponsored skydive, or run a marathon for a charity, or anything else like that? As the moeny they raise pays for the activity they do….

j_me, it would be my £11000 to charity too

Received an update from CRC the other day:

“The independent forensic investigation has shown that our infrastructure was the target of a sophisticated attack which resulted in the theft of card details relating to a number of our customers. Details were being stolen ‘real time’ and only a small proportion of recent CRC customers were affected.

The access point of the theft has been identified and permanently closed off so we are confident that we have fully addressed any weakness in our infrastructure.”

The bos fork is far superior to the 36 float, which in turn is far superiour to any 150mm fork on the market. buy one of the old bos forks, which are a steal while you still can at £750. Only oes left are in the shops, the new ones, are rrp of 1k i think.
Doesn’t matter about servicing the bos, bos say 1 year for day in day out use, and upto 2 years for normal use.
