Plenty of space left. We could double housing and still be less than 5%.

    And that’s good?

Someone pointed out on another forum that the current net migration of 300,000 is only 0.5% of total population, so quite a small number.
That’s a city the size of Coventry needing to be built every year.
We’ve already got one Coventry, I don’t want an extra one every 12 months. year.

I’m interested to see how it turns out. Toby Jones can do no wrong from what I’ve seen on him.

As long as it’s been flagged on strava, I’m happy.

If I take the time of the two quickest 400m intervals I did last week, then yes (just).
Doesn’t really count then though :D

Would be good if all posters could confirm whether they pay for a licence or not.

I pay and am happy to pay, but it’s a TV license not a Met Office license.

I’m guessing the met office contract was vastly over-priced for what is a pretty basic forecast. Everyone else is probably using the US GFS data which is free

Nice to see it’s a team time trial too, just to spice things up a bit more.

Don’t you need a power meter to use this?

    You don’t but it’s preferable.
Much like trainer road, it also supports a variety of trainers which the speed/power curve has been recorded, so if you stick a rear wheel speed sensor on your bike, you can get a reasonable estimate of power if the model of trainer is known.

There’s a fairly big social aspect to it and the introduction of the Richmond’s world champs course will be ace.

Though I noticed the real race is 161 miles long, which might be a bit of a challenge!

Normally I use Trainerroad. I just didnt get this, how to you control your power output? What are you working towards? I could just see that you could power along at whatever level you wanted? And no indicator to see what heart rate zone etc you are in

When you’re in trainerroad, how do you control your power output, what are you working towards, and where do you see your heart-rate zone indicated? :)

To be fair I think to get the best out of zwift you need a smart turbo, and a decent computer.
    I love it!
Great for unstructured riding, and races. Not so great for structured workouts as the temptation to jump on someone else’s wheel is normally too great.
Racing has been especially good fun on it,
For structured workouts I tend to use trainerroad, and have that control the power level of the kickr, but use it in companion with zwift for the display.

    Zwift.
Just try drafting someone going at a similar pace.

Not quite, I just googled the current UK 24 record to see how close he was, as I had no idea what the record was – 541.17 MILES!

And done on a mountain bike.

Segment creation and segments a key part of Strava are impossible with OSM in many areas.

All looks fine to me. Maybe the Brits are just better at updating OSM in the first place?
I didn’t even realize you could use street view until reading this thread. Never had any problems locating start and stops without it.
Just checked, I still get google maps on segment explore, but can’t see any street view option. Do people really mean street view?

Odds on getting a max HR are minimal. Your better of basing them off your threshold HR.

Folk who overtake need to take MORE care than those that never do.

    Bollocks.

Maybe you meant “Folk who overtake safely need to take more care than those that never do.”

I use em occasionally if the water is tasting a bit too plastically. But they don’t appear to do anything useful either for electrolytes or cramping.

Sports drinks, sweat and electrolytes – part 1

One advantage they have when running though is the contents of the tablet makes the water foam a little, and you get less sloshing noise from a bottle.

Yup, But what Froome did wasn’t breaking any tradition or convention.
He wasn’t attacking a rider who’s chain had just fallen off, or someone that he’d wheel sucked four the last 4 hours, it was a plain old fight for the line against his nearest rival.
Quintana would have done exactly the same if he could have.

Assuming you’re on the road they should be reasonably accurate , well within the error above.

This is from the last 90 min road ride with a power meter

    ………………………..avg power…..Work Done……Kcal
    Garmin…………….214…………….1210kj………….1277
    TrainingPeaks…214…………….1207kj……………1207
    Strava………………215…………….1212kj…………..1352

They all pretty much agree on avg power and work done (which you’d expect)
There’s a bit more variability on calories but all roughly in the expected ball park.

Going back to the OP 1500cals over 100minutes would need an avg power of ~ 258 Watts, which is ~ 22mph on the hoods on a flat road. So if the OP did 35 miles on flattish roads, then the figure would be about right.

It’s not an impossible figure. Assuming that the app knows accurate how much energy you’ve used (which on a road ride it should be able to make a reasonable guess), then it’s down to what percentage efficiency myfitnesspal thinks you convert calories to mechanical energy. Typically the range is 20% to 25%, which depending on what value they use gives a potential overall error of about 20%

Fast and Furious 10 will be pretty much based on me.
They were making Fast and Furious 9, but once they saw what I could make a Panda do, it just seemed pointless.

*Oulton. Set the lap record, you should know how to spell it.

As it happens I have tested them in a previous job, over a decade ago mind so the earliest Powertaps, Ergomos and the contemporary SRMs. They were all within 2% if I recall, although there was the obvious Ergomo design flaw.

Any idea how accurate crank based ones are with regards to elliptical chain rings? I.e can they accurately catch the velocity changes precisely enough to maintain accuracy?

Looking at the vid he appears to average about 380-400Watts – which doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. I’ve briefly looked at links, but can’t work out why people are getting in a froth about it. Has anyone got a link as too why this particular wattage is suspect?

The point is, nobody cares that these girls won wimbledon.

Some people care, but like the vast majority of sports, not enough care to make it newsworthy.

I just bought a 50 quid Nokia 530 just because I wanted to test whether an idea was simpler to code on the windows platform than android. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Slight problem with bluetooth comms with a power meter at the mo, but the manufacturer is looking into it.

I think people are confusing antiperspirant with deodorant.

    This.

If you don’t use antiperspirant then I’m sorry to tell you, but you stink by mid afternoon and everyone is too polite to tell you. By the way, the 1970s want their men back. There’s no excuse.

The stinky business does seem to vary a lot from person to person. Some people seem to have a lot more of the bacteria that break down sweat and as a consequence pong quite quickly, but if you don’t have that many of the bacteria it can take a long time to start whiffing.

Got my 4i now. Gives similar readings to stages and kickr, so I’m assuming they’re all roughly right. I think 4i are still having some production, battery, and accuracy issues. Though it does strike me as a bit odd that only some people have battery issues when in theory you’ve got identical electronics in each device.
