I’d have put on that makeup that Molgrips uses so I could hide, and if that didn’t work fend them off with the big knife. That’ll be even more weight…

    Whisky?

Good observation. I’m inclined not to bother actually. Being a billy-no-mates, its not all that much fun sipping single malt on a Welsh hillside if you’ve got no-one to share it with, plus it’ll save me 200g 😉

The Ultra vest stuff sack is tiny. No chance of fitting the Ultra bag in there.
I pack the vest, bag, base layer and socks in a 4 litre Alpkit airlok dry bag anyway.

360g without stuff sack – 372g with it. Shocking isn’t it?

Wildcat stuff – would be a pleasure. I’ll be the one with a Ti singlespeed and funny looking bars, Beth will be the one with a very young baby…

Did you buy the sleeping bag then use the discount buying the vest?!

No, because by the time you factor in 2 lots of £10 postage, I’d only have saved £3.80…

Yes, pleased with them. The vest is nice, plus I can fit in a small, so it doesn’t weigh so much 😀
Bag has come out a tiny bit “heavy” though – 360g.

Anyway, I’m still waiting to see your ultra-minimal setup?

You not taking a map then?

    I’ve memorised my route 😕

he’s got a puffs pillow though.

Aha, but you have the large puffs pillow, whereas I have the smaller lightweight version 😉
’tis one of my luxury items, which is stretching the use of the term luxury – it may yet stay at home.

Edit: heads up for page 10

Is any one taking a trowel for burying their number 2?

No. If you pick your spot, you don’t need to a trowel.

Matt, now that you’ve conveniently posted the location of your house, you better hope that it isn’t wet on Saturday night, otherwise everyone going clockwise will be in your back garden 😉

    Right so water bottles….

Back on page 4 there was talk of those feedbags that strap beside the stem – you can put a bottle in one of those. I’ve got and been meaning to adapt the one I posted here. Not enough hours in the day lately though…

    argghhhhhhhhh…

    What’s wrong with 10, 9, 11, 12, 13, 8 etc?

I was a bit stuck with which order to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14 & 16, but I have it now. It the weather is pants, I’ll sack 3 and 14 and the route is more straight forward.

It’s the next post after the 40th that gets the top of the next page.

Anyway, I’m not playing that game any more.

To be honest, I think I’m the only one playing 😳
The page 7 post had been going begging for over a hour last night and I just happened to check before I went to bed…

Still, I’m out on the bike tonight, which’ll make a nice change so nothing more from me!

My Bearpaw mesh tent is also great for under a tarp, nice and light at around 200g.

Is that all it weighs? Impressive…

As a Pegasus owner I can vouch for what a wonderful thing it is, particularly for long rides

    Wot ‘e said

If you want to throw your leg over a medium Peg at the WRT, you’d be very welcome. No toe overlap issues on this frame size either, though my feet are a size 7.

Built in net is the ideal solution, yes. I did have a good look at one of those bivi bags in Cotswold the other day, but price puts me off a bit.

I’ve just ordered 2 metres of net for about £10 and was thinking of trying to make something like a Gossamer Gear midge net. Pics to follow, of course.

I’ve just ordered some mosquito net so I can [get Beth to] retro-fit something to my Hunka to give me some protection from midges once under the shelter of my tarp.

What are other people doing about avoid the winged teeth, particularly the tarpists?

    I do believe that is a hat-trick 😀

I switched from my Ardents to my Race Kings the other day. Huge difference in rolling resistance, and most likely grip, but I’m sure they’ll be fine.

I discovered Tim Minchin’s Storm yesterday – very funny.
Bit of language in it, so not entirely safe for work, but here’s the link anyway:

Ok, think I have it now. 161 km (100 miles) and 5400m ascent with all the check points.

I think the aspiration to be west of Cader by Saturday evening is very much weather dependent. If my experience of riding a loaded bike in the Beacons is anything to go by, then B1 is going to take longer than it looks.

Unlike the area around A1, A4, A5 and A11, and that’s before I consider A3 and B4. Still scratching my head on these.

    we found it less confusing to have A1 – A11 and B1 – B4 nomenclature…

@Anthony – I don’t know this area especially well. Lots of info on good bits here though: http://www.dyfimountainbiking.org.uk/

OK, I’ve numbered Stuart’s the grid references in the order sent, List A: 1-11 and List B: A-D to make them easy to refer to without giving the specific locations away.

Checkpoints 3 and D both seem somewhat out of the way… Whilst Stuart’s “if you fancy doing all 15 then I take my hat off to you” statement is like red rag to a bull, I can’t really find what looks like a rewarding route to collect these two up. What’s everyone else doing?

    Page 5, sweet 🙂

Footpaths – I’d have thought not – there’s loads of forest trails, bridleways, rupp’s and boat’s to go at 😕

I’m likely to head clockwise too – seems to be the best way to pick up the ones from List B. Most of my route appears to be off road which is nice. Not looking to set any records, be first home or have the shortest possible route, but I’ve marked a few trails I rode back in 1993 (yes, really) which I’d like to do again and a few I’ve always wanted to do that I’m prepared to got a little out of my way for 🙂

    Pete – If you’re going to spend £400 on a 29er frame, there’s only one 😉

Keep you eyes peeled on the classified and be patient – something good will come up. £799 is a good wedge to spend to find you might not like it. Buy second hand and if you change your mind, you’ll most likely get back what you paid for it in the first place, or only drop 10’s of pounds and not 100’s.

@stevemorg2 – no problems – will post up some more details this week. We’ve got about 10 fabric blanks with the logo on to turn into harnesses.

@Dave J – didn’t realise Carnetown was comparatively close to me. What tent are you using there?

@Anthony – looks good. I didn’t persevere with that kind of set up as I couldn’t handle the slippy fabric, a wheel a toddler and a cat all at the same time when I was experimenting. I can see the benefit if the conditions are more adverse. Will have to have another go. However, it looks tricky to get right though, and would those be 26″ wheels?

@Bigface – yes, we’re doing partial frame bags. Dubbed the Lynx, they’ll be comparable to the American equivalents. Drop a mail to the wildcat address if you’d like to discuss features/ cost etc.

@slugwash – like the look of that trip. Kudos for taking the kids. Ours are a bit young yet (one nearly 3 years and one four weeks), but would love to get them out into the hills when they’re older.
