Isn’t stoicism just the as same pragmatism?

I feel I’m farely pragmatic at home and at work.

Don’t worry about the things you can’t control.

Doing your best is all we can do.

Expect the best outcome, plan for the worst.

Maybe there should be a tongue in cheek emoji for clarity.

I’ve the gravel kings (32mm small knob setup tubeless), I like them but if I was buying them again I’d get the bigger size.

Although I like the gravel kings if I was buying tyres for commuting that can still do off-road I’d get the Halo Twinrail. They roll fast and are pretty tough (they’re cheap too). I had them on my – now sold – Genesis SS Day-one and only had one puncture in 2 years commuting.

My croix de fer came with continentals and they were very fragile, crap off road and didn’t work too well on the road either.

I’ve a 2015 croix de fer 10 and although has been good if I was doing more off-road I’d be looking at a bike with an alfine hub like the Genesis day-one.

    Don’t need a map.
Easier to convince pal to ride a century.
    It’s for charity.
Not only do you get cake you get cake every 25 miles!!!

Agree about the Audaxes though, the people who ride them are a lot nicer to chat to and they’re way cheaper than sportives, plus you get badges! And a mention in their quarterly magazine for your achievements.

Never seen this guys videos before but after viewing the one in the link I think he comes across as a genuinely nice guy.

But I think his main problem is that he’s learning to ride jumps and drops whilst riding a down hill bike, that bike is giving him a false sense of security (as is the full face helmet and neck brace).

I think he’d be better off learning to ride on a hard tail as you get more feel of what the bike is doing and a better sense of speed.

Also he seems to hit the jump at a speed to fast to roll it and too slow to clear it. Plus his body position wasn’t good.

Wish him all the best with the recovery though.

My pal donated a pair of middleburn crank arms for my singlespeed build, Seems like there’s plenty for sale on eBay.

I fitted an oval Wolftooth chainring which I like.

I had a mongoose 2005 teocali super, it was my 1St full suspension bike and it was err super!

The suspension worked really well, was pretty light and won bike of the year in MBR (I might have the wrong mag it did win an award).

The 2017 Teocali still looks like a good bike.

I’m liking my Stooge (Mark 2 setup singlespeed with 29er wheels) so much that I’m thinking of getting another in orange setup with gears and 27.5+ tyres and selling my Cotic Soul.

Only one away from the 3 Stooges!

    Sorry

A dog is a dog! Is a dog! Is a dog! It’s not your baby nor are you it’s mommy or daddy!
A dog either thinks it’s a human or that you’re a dog, either way you need to ensure that the dog knows it’s at the bottom of pecking order of the family pack and this needs to be enforced constantly.

If you want to own one you should be responsible for it (as the law dictates). I’m shocked by how many dogs that are off the lead in public places that do not come back when called around where I live which if you go by the letter of the law are deemed ‘out of control’ and the owner could be at risk of being charged and prosecuted if the dog shows aggression.

I’ve had dogs in the past and I’m OK around dogs but I’ve still been chased by barking/snarling dogs when out on the bike who’ve tried to bite me but not succeeded. I’m a 5’11” adult but what if I was a small child? The dogs teeth would be face height as opposed to leg height.

Would a simple muzzle not help?
Or even designated areas for letting your dog off the lead?
    Compulsory dog training classes?

Before I get flamed I would like to state that I like dogs and had them when I was younger but I don’t have the time to properly to look after one as I work full time.

I took my 6 year old (nearly 7) to Glentress for the first time this week. After a bit of grumbling about the climb from the bottom she soon started to enjoy it.

So much so that after ridden approx 60% of the blue loop and a cafe stop she wanted to ride some more.

I put the bikes back on the roof rack and drove to top carpark where we rode parts of the skills loop, the full green loop and another blast down Berm baby berm. All in I reckon she rode nearly 10 mile (going by distances on the trail map).

I was a very proud dad following her line down the trail and hearing whooping with joy as she went.

I now need to initiate my 4 year old son but I’ll try and hold off till next year though as he’s a bit of a mentalist on the downs.

I have the alpha 400’s but in 32 hole and they’ve never skipped a beat, nice set up tubeless too.

I bought a Stooge frame and built it up single speed to ride locally and to keep my 26″ Soul for trail centres and bike packing.

I love it, as much as I love my Soul which is a lot.

I’m biased where steel is concerned though as all 4 of my bikes are steel including my road bike.

Forgot to add that I installed the tyres by hand with no tools and inflated with a standard track pump. You get a very satisfying pop when they’re seated properly.

I’ve ran ghetto tubeless on my mountain bike for years but I made sure I bought tubeless rims and tyres and even the stans tape too as round my way I can hit 50mph on the descents and the thought of the tyre popping off the rim terrifies me.

I run Hutchinson 25mm Fusion 5 tubeless tyres on stans Alpha rims which I think are great.

Remember you don’t need to pump up the tyres as hard with tubeless tyres as their side walls are thicker, I like 90 psi on the back and 85 psi on the front.

Have any of you read graeme obree’s training manual?

It’s really rather good, plus his ways are quite affordable as they don’t rely on expensive gadgets.

Get yourself a cheap 29er hack bike that you can neglect and leave outside shops without worry that someone will nick it.

I found it to be quite freeing, like driving a banger or van.

I’ve a Stooge set up singlespeed with a spare parts build spec and I love it.

I prefer a flat saddle set up level on the road bike and a concave saddle set slightly nose down on the mountain bike.

Not 100% sure why other than comfort maybe.

Level. Ish? Why not use er…. a spirit level?

Hand-built wheels using Stans Grail rims?

Pick the hubs and spokes that you fancy/can afford.

Or, a factory built Stans Grail wheelset. Just seen them on sale for not much more than £350.

Carpet in a cupboard or vinyl in a kitchen is fine to do it yourself but a large room or stairs then get the professionals in, it’s not only hard graft, there’s a good chance you’ll make a hash of it or give yourself a nasty cut.

I have an £8 all black fingerless altura pair that I rate highly.

Tend to take off my gloves when I get a bit warm but don’t need to with these.

I was always a SDG bellair guy but I got sick of them either: the fabric wearing through, the rails snapping or them becoming incredibly rattly.
That and that they’re not cheap to replace. So I bought a Spoon a couple years ago as they’re supposedly a similar shape but I never got on with it.
I bought a cheap WTB Pure to try from positive reviews and really like it, enough to maybe buy a Ti one next time.

Oh I’m nearing 40 and my rump might be a smidgeon bigger these days which the Pure seems to cope well with.

As most orange 5 owners will attest (probably), if the rear wheel quick release wasn’t done up really tight, it would develop a creak – I bloody stripped everything from the frame before discovering it – an afternoon wasted!

As much as I loathe average speed cameras, they seem stop people behaving like this.

OP, don’t let the feckers get you down, I received a good piece of advice on a speed awareness course I once attended. One of the people there blamed a tailgating aggressive driver for bullying him to speed and the guy giving the course said slow down and just let them past as an idiot is better off infront of you than behind you.

You did the right thing in reporting them.

2 pages in and no Stooge’s! I’d post a pic of mine but I don’t want to be shamed by the state of my drive and wall.

    I love my Stooge.

If it’s a alloy granny ring then replace it with a steel one as the alloy ones are not up to the task, the steel ones aren’t much heavier either.

Really enjoyed the video, thanks for posting. Myself and a couple of pals are heading to Cape Wrath in June, I’m really looking forward to it. Old school, croix de fer with panniers, I’ve bought a touring shirt that I’m planning on riding in with the sleeves rolled up. Panniers = plenty of room for layers, good bad food and rum.

I have Stans Grail rims on my Croix de fer which I like, they’re wider than my mountain bikes rims and give a lovely shape to my tyres, not too heavy either. They’re tubeless and pretty aero, I put my on XT hubs and built them myself.

    I like.

I find Johnny to be like Nutella, I love an indulgent dessert spoon full but it soon becomes too rich and I’m happy not sample it again for a few days or even longer.
But I long for the taste and would be sad if it didn’t exist anymore.

Ideal is/was one of my favourite shows.
