agree with Boris. I think riding in town with headphones is crazy. I tried it on a cyclepath once just to see if it was ok like, and 10 metres later failed to hear a car coming from a crossing car park entrance. Saw the car ok, but would have heard it 5 seconds earlier without, which probably equates to 20 metres at a low car speed.

    get one of these

cheap pad set, wrist guards and helmet from Sports Direct etc..good fun in the dry.

Good price and it’s decent too. Rather than cheap childrens toy tat.

thing is even very good causes need funding etc.. I guess it’s just a questions of people’s value’s and way of living as opposed to a job – although sometimes these may go hand in hand to some ( perceived or actual )extent i guess

money is the root of all evil so presumably we should be able to live without money. Idle hands make….?? something ?? so presumably some sort of labour / skill exchange. For actual goods I was thinking along the lines of Noels ‘multi-coloured swap shop’

all said in a light hearted way… Not intending to offend religous followers

it’s not just when cycling you have to be careful. Recently had a few cars almost rear end me whilst driving as they tried to jump lights, although i was stopping for an amber and infront. Just assumed I’d go through the red, so they would too.

i like the lady from Treks approach. Although I have never had a wheel kick out when I least expect it when using a 26. If anything I would have thought a 26 would be easier to lean the bike onto the outer edge of the tyre in a regular size thus reducing the likely hood of this occuring over a larger wheel anyway, although I understand that this is countered by advantage of the increased footprint of a larger wheel and in the case of 27.5 a slightly better rolling profile.

presentations at events where there has been a little misunderstanding or a strange queston etc have in my exprience been enjoyed ( in relaxed evening events though) by the audience as it makes for a bit of a laugh and a break from the serious stuff.

top tube length is most important, providing the standover is fine, which it should be on a jump bike. Try putting the seat down very low on a regular mtb for a guide then check out the dimensions. two ways of measuring tt – actual and on a horizontal plane. Should give some idea anyway. Best way really is to try a few tbh, even if you just sat on a few in showrooms to get a feel. Also check the seat tubes angle – in a slack seat angle – a seat raised six inches can really make the cockpit alot longer, and thus suit someone taller, but not so good for someone short who just wants to put the seat up to ride a bit of xc to get to the jumps – although fine when the seat is slammed. Surely kona have some height / size guides online??

mind you maybe the dealer didn’t pay up front so they could withdraw from the sale also?

    iamroughrider

wouldn’t hand anything over at all until full payment, personally, unless you knew them somehow and trusted them. I’d also expect a deposit of some kind if there’s going to be a delay in payment and the buyer is serious, although I can also understand the buyer not commiting to this, esp a dealer who can probably get something very similar next week.

Take the original price/ buyer imho if this is a small %,as others have said it’s not worth the risk, plus you have agreed. If they start messing you around then that’s different.

i have used waxoil. Best thing to do is thin it down by maybe 1/3 or 1/2 then slow put it the frame and leave the frame at loads of angles and move it around lots for some time. Then leave to cure. Best done on a dry day and ideally warm environment. Best to clean the thread and leave it for few days to harden. Also do not put the bike near a radiator for some time after! Had some come out a little for a week or two, after. But never had a problem since, even in very hot weather. Bit of aggro but worth it imo. Do not put too in esp in, neat and thick as most of it will stay in the frame and could add a fair bit of weight if that matters. Also I recon putting it in neat is not good as it’s unlikely to get into all the little nook and crannies and just bung up bits internally.1/3 thinner or 1/2 thinner diluted with white spirits iirc seems best.

It will also make your bike smell for a few weeks, but this goes. It can take a few weeks to settle and cure properly.

Sound like hassle but not too bad. Also you can get spray cans of the stuff which is probably more costly but iirc thinner from the off. If using normal stuff put the can in hot water for a while thinning / applying.

Also put the seat tube in and out after it has cured a bit, rather than 2 weeks later.

if you find one that’s a little more dull, t cut can probably help a fair bit, I expect on a regular colour.

thanks everyone. Reason I ask is i usually just use hairspray on regular grips but recently rain has caused them to slip. Think I may also try superglue.Love lockons but for the commuter I like using cheap regular grips due to the amount of use they get. Mind you superstar lock on ones may be a cheap alternative…

Think I will try superglue and also wire them on now.

Can you get away with just wiring one end – probably the grips inner?

not ideal but how about getting someone weld a bmx bottom bracket holder into that shell.( DMR do them) Then weld the rest up and fit a three piece crank and a single chainring. The bmx bb should be much smaller in diameter and would enable the ring (or fixing shell to add material) – the bearings then tap in.

second thoughts – it does look bad..

i had v brakes that didn’t work on my pub bike. Tried everything as they were seized up. Then tried some boiling water..hey presto – started working again. The reason…Someone had poured superglue into them. Boiling water kills superglue. The reason, a fustrated thief no doubt in town.People do not generally walk around with superglue in their pockets. Pretty minor I know but shows you what can happen.

take some photo’s when empty or a video of it, and say you have some confidental work related engineering , or a car engine all in bits etc etc..and disorgansied ..or you are improving something for them in it and do not want to put them off until it’s finished or something your working on…. Be paranoid.

They may not care at all…

yes, my only points on my licence are from one on the opposite side of a road. Going through a village to chicksands, came around the corner before the village, and bosh. Wasn’t a gatso though and was one of those described above. I am pretty sure it was on the opposite side of the road too from memory.

v’s are ok if you have no choice ie second hand etc. Fine if the bikes used for commuting. Get the disk version if you can though even if the brakes are rubbish cable jobs ( which tbh are usually much better with a pair of aftermarket superstar, A2Z, Aztec etc pads) These will be ok and will allow easy an easy upgrade to proper disk brakes at some stage. I’d say worth it really as otherwise you’d need a new wheel set if you decide to upgrade, providing the frame has disk mounts too. Deore brakes are imo are excellent value. Also saves on pads and no rim wear. In some places mud and wet equals grinding paste. V’s are however ok. Also depends where it’s going to ridden really.

It’s just a car, they made millions of them just like yours. it will be cheap to repair and hardly worth claiming on the insurance.
I could understand getting upset about the money side of things but nearly crying? it’s not exactly a rare Aston/Ferrari/Porsche just an old Beatle.

That’s pretty low tbh. It might not be some peoples idea of a nice car, but I think you’d struggle to understand the value of a 50 year old practical classic to a committed owner. They may have made millions of them, but how many do you see on the road now?

An old beetle is a classic car! It’s not like you can just buy another is it? It’s 50 years old! And even if you could you’d be suprised at the value of ‘old Beetles’ if money is the main factor which of course it’s not.
