my mates just got one from Si
    Lovely bike, looks fantastic
    felt nice to ride
    very light
felt a little short for me 5’10” and it was a medium I think
I would get one if I didnt already have a nice exclusive Ti bike 😉

That’s a good allowance iain1775. What list value of car do you run?

I’ve estimated you get about £7.5k in your pocket, which should cover full running costs of a half decent car.

    Really?
How do you work that out?
I pay tax at 40% on the 6500
Fuel costs around 11pence per mile, I get 17p (difference to 40p just affects next years tax code)
How do you end up with me having 7.5k in pocket at end of year?

But yes I am much better off now that i was when I had company car and fuel card. My tax code is far more favourable now

I got an 11month old Hyundai i30 Premium with 8k miles on clock for 10k. Has more bells and whistles than my old company Beemer used to
I will pay the initial loan off comfortably from the allowance over 2 years, keep car another 2 whilst raking in the allowance, should get me a decent deposit for next car, when this one will be handed to the wife and her existing car sold
Im not really fussed by flash cars, been there done that but being company cars I never owned them outright. Happy to run around in this for a few years, it has comfy seats and cruise control, thats enough for me up and down the M6 to Scotland!

£6,500 per year taxable car allowance, paid same way as salary
car has to be 5 yrs or younger
17p per mile (claim difference upto 40p /25p as others have said from HMRC)
I do on average 15-20,000 business miles a year but when Im in the office its only 5 minute drive / 15 minute by bike so its cost effective for me to have opted out of the company car scheme

oh Im not a fair wetaher biker
or even a fair weather biker
but Im yet to find a rear mudguard that is particualy useful in keeping me dry, and pretty much nothing that will keep my lower legs dry whilst remaining comfortable, so I don’t see much point in one

It may be a bit of a trek from New Mills to Derby but there is a jewller on Green Lane (Janet Field I think) that did my Tag Heuer last year, including pressure testing on site, did it next day where as other jewellers where saying it had to be sent away and would be 4 months and cost over £80!!

    I have a contour
I want a Go Pro but holding out for the 960

Contour is just too limited on mounting options and weatherproofing to make it any good for MTB in my opinion
Helmet mounts – tricky to fit flat plate / velco straps on a curved vented helmet and therefore wobbly footage
Stick on mount – flat and cant really go anywhere other than a pisspot lid unless you have huge tubes on your frame
Handlebar mount – badly designed impossible to tighten with gloves and puts camera too exposed above the bars, also camera on handlebars Im not keen on as the slightest direction change looks like a huge jump in direction
The cradle that lets you use a standard camera fixing is good, but then you need additional mounts as well, I ended up making my own frame mounts to attach it to seat clamps and bottle cage bosses but then the camera is again exposed and the last thing you need is mud and grit in the sliding record switch (easy to operate but very tempermental once dirt has got in)

Only thing the Contour has going for it is the rotating lens and sighting lasers, both of which with better mounting options I could do without

I now only use it on my helmet, any other places, its not weather proof enough to cope
If they did a chest mount though….

The Go Pro chest mount is by far the best mounting option, the lens is a wider angle, the waterproof case is miles better and the HD footage seems comparable

I second Dogcamsport as a good source of info

blah blah blah 3 pages of political/military/economic muterings on STW that have no doubt moved on to the legality of war and if pilots should wear crash helmets and other bizare issues etc (what tyres for an aircraft carrier landing)

So Excuse me if like the majority I ignore all that
    and simply point out

halifax must have changed because my policy wording mentions nothing like that. Bike is covered away from home so long as locked up, in boot of car (locked) in a shed etc

after weeks of giving up I got through to the Hopeless Morons, Retards & Cretins department straight away this morning
to then be told a cheque was in the post to refund the excess tax Ive been paying for years, and my tax code was being changed to a more favourable one
    Happy days
They didnt actually answer my original question I rang up for though!
